The carpet turned out top be factory defective (yarn was easy to pull out). We complained to Carpet Yard who promptly responded, agreed with our view and contacted the manufacturer. The factory rep come to our house, took samples and pictures; later on the manufacturer indicated that they felt the carpet was OK. Carpet Yard then insisted with the factory and after seberal to and fro's the factory agreed to replace the carpet. It took the factory more than 4 months to produce the carpet as two of their runs did fail the factory pull test, giving credence to our original complaint.
THe new carpet (which passed the tests and does not shed!) was installed by carpet yard, about one year after the original carpet was installed. We could not be more pleased with the service and work quality of Carpet Yard, and recommend them as a top quality carpeting provider.
In comparing prices to other stores, Carpet Yard was slightly higher but it was worth it because of professional service and confidence I had in the outcome. At another carpet store, I was first ignored and then hurried along because the salesman had office work to do and it was approaching closing time. At another, it was more about making the sale and not about what I needed to know about carpet to make good choice for my house and budget.
A family member decided to move back in a few months sooner than initially planned so the June installation became a and quot;rush joband quot; prior to the move-in date. Allan, the salesman, came to house to measure and prepare estimate and also helped me select the type, grade and color suitable for our family (humans and canines!) and my budget. My calls to Allan were always returned promptly including times when he was not at the store. I made my final carpet selection on a Saturday and, thanks to prompt coordination between retail store, carpet mill and installation department, new carpet was installed by noon on the following Friday. As soon as carpet arrived from the mill, Randy called to schedule the installation and gave me useful instructions on what to do to prepare (removal of items from tops of furniture, removal of books from bookshelves and the like). Installation crew of 4 arrived on time and got right to work; they moved all furniture and books/other items we had placed in boxes. They were courteous and professional and worked efficiently together. After removal, the area was thoroughly vacuumed prior to new pad and carpet going in. The job was done in no time and work area was cleaned up to my satisfaction. Although not a part of the job, one of the men helped me carry a big, heavy (new) HDTV upstairs and get it safely on the stand in it's new location. Allan followed up several days later with phone call to find out if I was satisfied with the carpet quality and the installation.
2 young non-English speaking men and 1 lead man who spoke very broken English showed up on time. The lead man told me they were subcontractors, which means the salesman at Carpet Yard lied to me.
It's been several months now and I've had a chance to look closer and can see the lack of detail of their work. The fit and trim around the door jams and base boards isn't the best; they reused the existing tack strips that I thought would be replaced but I didn't saying anything at the time; but the worst problem is the half inch gap at the transition to the master bath that the salesman said they would fit the carpet up to.
I should have gone to Home Depot.
