A few days after moving into our "new" home, my wife mistakenly locked herself out of the house. We were planning on getting the locks changed anyway, but now we had an emergency lock-out situation as well. Artie's team responded promptly and professionally, and their prices were fair. (They even recommended that I keep the existing good-quality locks and simply have them re-keyed, rather than trying to sell me new locks.) I would recommend them to anyone looking for assistance with residential locksmith work.

I called first and was told upfront what the pricing could be depending what exactly they had to do to make up the new key. When I brought in the lock they worked efficiently and showed me some wear on the lock. They cleaned it up to work more efficiently. Very happy with the experience. Will use again.

It went perfectly AND better than I could hope for. I stopped by their shop with a bike rack locked to my car and no key. Sean picked in less than 10 min. Then he opened the casing, got the control number, looked it up and made me a replacement key(s) on the spot. That saved me at least a week or two going back and forth with the bike rack vendor to ship the control key, ship a new set of keys, etc. Sean also made a new, programmable key for my car..., for half the insane cost the car dealer quoted..., and it only took 30 minutes. Awesome service. We will always go back to Artie's for our locksmith needs!

Artie's technician responded to call within 3 hours of call requesting service. Technician extremely friendly and efficient. Repaired the lock mechanism in a few minutes without attempting to sell me a new handle/lock assembly. Cost was considerably lower than expected.

The Sonata dealer had given an estimate of about $200 to make a duplicate key.  Artie's Lock & Key got good reviews on Angie's list, so I called them.  They said if the key does not have a chip, it would cost $50.  So I took the key to Artie's.  The locksmith determined that the key does not have a chip.  He made the new key in just a couple of minutes.  Then he came out to the parking lot and tested it on my car.  It worked - opened the door and started the engine.  The locksmith was knowledgeable and pleasant.  The service was quick.  The price was much less than the dealer would have charged.  It was a great experience.

After buying our home last year, I needed to rekey our doorlocks. I contacted a couple of locksmiths via Angieslist and asked Arties' to do the job based on their responsiveness, and of course due to their ratings. Arties' folks arrived at the expected time. They looked at the locks and detailed the work needed. On one of the locks, metal tabs covering the screw-holes were jammed in over the screws, and they advised me up front that getting them out could result in  scratches on the lock housing. They finished up rekeying the locks in about an hour, and wrote up their invoice itemizing tasks and costs. Overall, the job was completed without unexpected problems.

It doesn't get much easier than this.  I first started on Angie's List and checked out reviews of some local locksmiths.  I ended up calling 2 of them (Artie's and another) and both made it very easy to get a good ballpark estimate over the phone.  Both had  similar pricing and good availability.  Artie's seemed just a touch more friendly and just a little closer to where I lived, plus they have an actual store, so I went with them.   The tech who did the work showed up at exactly the agreed upon time, seemed knowledgeable, was courteous and professional.  Within about 30 minutes he had all 3 locks re-keyed (to two different keys) with about 12 spares made - exactly what I had asked for.  He even reminded me to test the spares to make sure I was satisfied they were all working.  A nice, simple experience.

He was very courteous and was going to charge me $142 for his time, but since he was unable to resolve this issue he only charged me $100.

The quote over the phone and the estimate was right on.  The owner did the work and I enjoyed learning about the locksmith industry while he efficiency worked and got the job completed timely.  I often refer vendors that I like to friends and family, and I will definitely refer Arties's Lock & Key.

We lived in an older house built in the 1940's. The uniqueness of the house drew us to it and we still love living there. However, as anyone who lives in an older house knows, repairs, even ones that appear minor, can often take a turn to the complicated and costly. Such was the case with an original front door lock on our house. I had been told it could not be fixed, replacement parts of the type we needed were unavailable, new locks were not compatible with the old, and basically the only solution was to purchase a totally new door and hardware. After having read very good reviews of Artie's Lock & Key I decided to give them a try. We live close to the Fairfax office and literally within 30 minutes of calling, a locksmith was at my house. He assessed the problem, offered several practical and reasonable solutions, took apart all of the mechanism, and fixed the problem. He even made as many replacement keys as I needed. If you have a lock or key problem, I would strongly recommend Artie's Lock & Key for their prompt, friendly, professional, and reasonable service.

I called Artie's a few days ahead of service and scheduled a time to meet at the new house. The locksmith came exactly on time, which was helpful. It took around 90 min or a little longer to get everything done. The garage lock was problematic, it is still "sticky" with the new key because the lock around the cylinder is apparently not the same brand as the cylinder itself. We also learned that the rear door is an older type of lock which doesn't allow for re-keying, so we have to get a brand new knob and cylinder together to make that change. The fee for the house call is $78 and then pricing depends upon how many locks need to be changed, which they can estimate over the phone. The estimate was accurate and we paid exactly what we expected. There may be services which are slightly cheaper on the site visit fee, but we decided it was worth using a Fairfax-based business in case we need future service.

Mark came out and fixed a missing latch and latch plate on a metal door with a 30 year old schlage combo lock.  I called another locksmith (Spectre or spencer? in Herndon) and they didn't even want to come out when I told them it was an old U or H series lock.  What was really impressive was that Mark  converted an existing surface mounted lock my tenant had installed from an inside only lock,  to a keyed (matching the door key) lock.  What impressed me was he used the same lock and just drilled right through the door and added a key'd portion to a lock manufactured to be used from the inside only!
Did a real nice job.  Price was substantially higher than I had anticipated, but Mark did a great job.

We could not be happier with Artie's Lock & Key.  They did the work promptly and well.  Notably the final cost was less than the estimate they provided for us over the phone.  Also of note, they identified flaws in the installation work done by a separate contractor and made adjustments to their work to compensate.

I went in on a Saturday morning and bought a new Kwikset lock and had it re-keyed to match my existing lock. It was ready later that morning just like Art said it would be. It's a great little shop and if you want to support the local economy, it beats going to Home Depot in so many ways.

He was great. He told me that my lock wasn’t very good with the key. He fixed it and saved me the money. I was ready to pull out everything from the door. He explained everything and was very nice about it. He had to make several keys. I would recommend him. He was honest. His prices were fair. I was happy with him. He was quick to make the appointment. He apologized that he couldn’t send somebody out that day. He sent a guy the very next morning. They were very apologetic about it. I was shocked as I was thinking like a week. I was very impressed with them. He was here when he said he would. He was really nice. When I told him what I wanted, he explained what I wanted was stupid but he didn’t make me feel stupid. He pointed out how my idea wasn’t good. He told me that I could keep the lock I had and didn’t have to spend extra which I didn’t need. I really liked the way he handled everything. I would use him in the future.

It is a very small place. The keys that they made fitted into the locks. They did the work immediately. I was very happy with their service. What I like about them is that when you go there, they would do the work immediately for you. I once went to Home Depot to make keys and the keys that they made did not fit in the locks.
