Very well.  We had a young man named Justin Peters who provided outstanding service month after month.  He worked tirelessly in all weather and followed through on any issues that occurred.  I had trust in Justin that he would always get the spa chemicals right and keep it clean.  I highly recommend Justin who is the son of the owner.  Very seldom do you find someone who cares so much about what he does.
I read the other reviews on here.  Seems that these might have been from competitors.  Or maybe we were just lucky to have Justin month after month.
I also had a year agreement with them but am moving.  They were great about breaking the contract unlike most companies.

Bad service all around.  For our pool opening, May 13, they took the cover off, threw in a bunch of chemicals and turned on the pump.  They left us a note scribbled on a 2x3 piece of paper and said they would be back,..not giving us a date or time.  They came back a week later unannounced, didn't clean it because they couldn't see the bottom of the pool (same condition as when they left it the last week).  Said they would be out to clean it first week of June, never showed up.  Showed up second week of June, and did a crappy job.  Now its the last week of June, I'm out $500 and had to pay another company to do what they should have done in the first place.

It went fairly well after I was finally contacted by Amer. Craftsman.  Just a little slow to return phone calls.  This job was performed as a service under our American Home Shield Home warranty.

Very bad experience.  Showed up without authorization.  Did a very poor job (put pipes in the wrong way and then told me I  just didn't understand how things work) and very overpriced.  The company I later contracted to fix issues charged me half as much and did a much, much better job.  They fixed the pipes the right way and my pool looked 100 times better than when American Craftsmen finished with it.  I would never recommend them to anyone.

These guys are the absolute worst.  The last time I hired a company to do a full 'summer opening/closing/cleaning' package, it was American "Craftsman".  The pool opening was uneventful, but for some reason the pool wasn't maintaining its balances very well and needed to be continually skimmed ALL the time.  I complained to them several times and got no results whatsoever - the owner of the company refused to come by and see what the problems were and continued to send out the crews, which were irregular in their attendance (I complained to the owner about this also, to no avail)
I finally called another pool company to come out to inspect the pool and identify the problem, and they were able to find that some of the plugs were left in the pool including the one in the bottom of the skimmer - meaning the pool was never opened properly and running like that for several months had actually caused damage to the equipment.  I told the owner that I didn't want to use his services any further for the reasons stated above and he stopped sending his people out to clean the pool.  I ultimately used another company to close the pool for the season.
I wish I had checked Angie's List before using them - they're absolutely the worst company in the pool business I've ever even heard of, let alone had the displeasure of working with.
If there was a lower grade than "F", I'd give it to them.

"Member neglected to tell you that he didn't pay all of his bill. He did not even show up in court. He had a judgement for $700 plus interest & court costs, which he didn't pay.Member finally paid when he was served papers for past due payment for services.American Caraftsmen could have demanded $750. We opted to accept the original $600 final payment. Going to court is our last option. Please be aware that there are 2 sides to every story. There are no winners in this case. American Craftsmen stands behind it's work. Please call and ask for Craig Sollom (Pres) if you have any ?'s Sincerely Craig Sollom......"

When we purchased our home, we were a bit concerned about the pool equipment and the pool in general, since we had not owned one.  We did not want it to turn into some costly nightmare, so we bought the pool warranty with the homeowner's warranty.  Low and behold, we experienced high pressure on the pump just days before that warranty was to expire, so we immediately filed a claim.  Our  warranty company located American Craftsmen and sent them to our home.  These guys were amazing!  I cannot say that enough.  They not only detailed all of the issues, but submitted the claim back to the warranty company and got us a whole new system under warranty.  We were ecstatic.  We went ahead while we were at it and upgraded from the actual filter system that we had to a gravel filter system, so we would not have to clean filters weekly anymore and the maintenance would be lower.  In the end, we only paid $600.00 to not only have all of our pool equipment replaced, but to get it upgraded!  They were responsive, helpful and efficient!

$905
On April 6, 2012, we paid American Craftsman $905 as a deposit for replacement coping for our in-ground vinyl-lined swimming pool. On April 28, an American Craftsman crew arrived unannounced to install the coping but determined that what they received from the manufacturer would not work for our pool. They promised to secure the proper coping and expected to have it installed within two weeks. Nothing happened. From May 4 onward, I placed 13 calls to American Craftsman -- first inquiring about the status of the job and then, for the last three calls, demanding either that the work be done or our deposit refunded immediately. Out of those 13 calls, the company's owner returned pm;u two and both times promised to find out the status of our work and call me back the next day. He never did. I have left him six messages since our last conversation, but he has not responded to any of those calls. In an effort to get my deposit refunded, I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

Quite badly. See comments above.
Response from American Craftsmen Pool & Spa Inc
"Our lead pool technician visited the jobsite twice, unable to locate a leak in the filter or plumbing. The sand in the pool occured because of a failure to the filter after our 2 visits. The latterals in the filter cracked allowing sand to flow back into the pool. The warranty does not cover cleaning the sand out of the pool. The owner demanded that we clean out the pool.We gave our rates to perform the task,he wasn't interested. We called the warranty company to let them know about these issues. They backed us up that these services aren't covered in the homeowner's policy. The sand everywhere was not true. We requested not to do any more warranty services at this pool. The warranty company used us for over 300 calls last season. We do our best to represent the warranty company and our clients. It's difficult to please everyone, all the time. we"

Unreliable, expensive, dishonest. Overcharged for items never utilized.( automatic chlorinators) Could not commit to servicing me on a specific day- in all the years I had them on contract-One time they let my dogs out and just left a note for me to read when I got home on my front door saying, "dogs got out, sorry." That is why I needed a committment as to a specific day and time for their visits. They also missed some visits entirely and charged me for them!
Response from American Craftsmen Pool & Spa Inc
"The pool rennovations looked great. Often we would arrive to provide services and the gates were locked. She would often leave the dogs out on the date of service. They got out several times. We always coaxed them back with treats. We never left without the dogs back in the fenced backyard. The pool was 35-40 years old.Old pools require many reairs and replacements. The skimmers failed shortly after we started weekly service. This was an expensive fix.We didn't cause the multitude of problems. We fixed them. We missed 2 service visits in three years. The client was compensated for the missed visits. The caulking Was replaced under warranty. We parted ways with the client after the caulking was replaced. Please call if you have any questions. There are 2 sides to this story Thanks Craig Sollom 703 250-1300"

Their price was better than the other firms who provided quotes, their service was quick and I am pleased with the quality of their work. The last time I had the liner replaced, there were wrinkles in the liner, but American Craftsmen managed to install the new liner with no wrinkles. I would recommend this firm for this kind of work.
