Mr. Omar told me that if I could have given him the model number in addition to the symptom, he would give me a binding estimate at no cost, because with that info, he would be able to identify the part needed. Even though in my case, no model number is visible, just his stating that possibility tells me that his communication with clients is more forthcoming and direct than that of typical competitors. So, that made a favorable impression and I think the firm is earning its money and deserves business over its typical competitors. In the end, a staffer from firm (Freddy) had to see the oven for himself and he determined the part and had one with him and completed the repair. The overall price was comparable to the one the Angi firm quoted.

Our whirlpool washer was making a lot of noise during the spin cycle. I called Above the Rest Appliance Repair on a Friday and they had 2 of their technicians out on Monday. No error codes were displayed to indicate what the problem might be. The technicians checked the suspension rods and while they looked a bit worn they weren't really failing. The tub also appeared to be a bit off kilter. Without any pressure from the technicians we decided to go ahead and replace the rods. Umar, the owner of the company called and explained that without an error code it was difficult to ascertain what the problem was and that replacing the rods might not resolve the problem. We told him we understood but to go ahead with the rod replacement anyway. The team arrived the next day, replaced the rods and the problem was solved! Kudos to Above the Rest for not trying to sell me something I might not need. I felt their price was fair and their technicians were very professional and friendly and they were masked during the time they were in our house. I would not hesitate to use this company for any other appliance repair work.

I was very pleased with their service. They were efficient, responsive, punctual, friendly, and easy to communicate with. The two servicemen I had were knowledgeable and professional. They took care of a long-standing issue I had with my refrigerator that I couldn’t figure out for a long time! Will work with them again.

NOT RELIABLE FOR REPAIRS. Umar the boss/dispatcher is very unprofessional and will leave jobs uncompleted. I hired his company to fix my washer. They did a good job on another appliance repair last year, so I thought we could try again. The first visit this time for my washer went well but a leak was not found. I paid the repairman who noted if I had future issues to call back. When I did just that a few days later to note more details on the leak, Umar said he would respond once he found a part for my washer. He did not. I left 2 voicemails inquiring on the status; neither was returned. Finally I called back and Umar denied that he had ignored calls. He then contradicted our earlier conversation--which I have text message proof had his promise to look for a part and contact me back--and then hung up on me, blocking my phone number. That is VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. BE CAREFUL if you contact this company as I'm now out nearly $200 and my washer remains unfixed.

Above the Rest should be called “Below the Rest”; here is why. When the dispatcher diagnosed my refrigerator problem on the phone, my “ALARM” bell should have gone off in my head. He ordered the part he thought we needed and scheduled repair for 4 days later. The repair technician showed up 4 days later, disassembled my refrigerator and found a block of ice encasing the coils. He left to return the next day after the ice melted. The next day, two technicians came, installed the part, and reassembled the refrigerator. About two hours after they left, the refrigerator began making two noises, a loud one like a gas automobile engine turning over but not starting followed by a loud squealing sound. The sound continued sporadically through the evening and into the next morning. I called ATR the next morning, a Friday, held my phone in the freezer compartment so the dispatcher could hear the sound, and was told he did not have a technician available and indicated he would send the technician on the following Monday between 8 – 9 a.m. Monday morning came, but no technician. The dispatcher called at 4:30 p.m., asked if the refrigerator was still making the noise. I told him it had been making the noise sporadically but frequently since I called on Friday. He sent a technician, who disassembled the freezer compartment and did not hear the noise. He called the dispatcher and relayed he could not diagnose the problem without being able to hear the noise and figure out what part it was coming from. The dispatcher called after the technician left around 5:35 p.m. and was all upset because he thought the refrigerator was making the noise when he called and said his boss was giving him a hard time for having “wasted” the technician’s warranty visit. The sound started again about 6:05 p.m. on Monday and has continued every few hours for nearly three months. It never keeps going long enough for a technician to get here to hear it before it stops again. ATR fixed one problem, created a loud, obnoxious sound after the repairs, and gave me a hard time for asking them to fix it. As I said, they should be called “Below the Rest” for poor troubleshooting and poor customer service. Keep looking if you have a refrigerator repair!

Can't fault the worker that came out and told me a costly part needed to repair the fridge that we both agreed did not make sense to buy; better to replace (which I have). Or the additional work he suggested to make it easier to replace the fridge with a new one (which I did pay for on top of the service fee). The noise coming from the fridge was not fixed (which I did on my own afterward which had to do with the vibration coming from the water catch pan resting on top of the compressor) nor did my repeated requests from the owner to send me the paperwork ever get resolved. Avoid at all costs working with this company.

Enjoyed dealing with this company. Got a call from them about 5 minutes after requesting a quote and had an appointment set up for the same day. The only complaint I had was that they showed up outside of the service window they provided. But, they had the parts needed to repair the dishwasher and we were up and running in about an hour. Great work!

They diagnosed the problem quickly and he knew the machine very well. There was a little bit of a delay with getting out/finishing the work as he was doing the work of two people that day. Overall, we were really happen with speed and knowledge of the repair.

Above the rest sent a technician out to look at my washing machine, he found the problem and reported it and told me that they would let me know how much the part and job would cost. Omar called shortly after and gave me the cost. I told him i needed a day to think about it and asked if it was his what would he do and he told me. I've decided to replace the unit and he's even looking for the best place for me to purchase it while he's out picking up supplies. The name speaks for itself. Above the Rest is top notch and I will recommend and use them again.

The repair went well. Before I even finished completing the request for repair companies to call me on June 17, Umar of Above the Rest (ATR) called. After I described the refrigerator problems, he asked if one of his employees, Jason, could come to our house in about 3 hours and assess the problems, given that he was already in our area working. I was astonished that someone could come to our home so soon - and on the same day. When Jason came to our home, he showed and explained to me what the problems were and why they were happening; he answered my questions professionally and with obvious knowledge and experience. When Jason called Umar to inform him of the parts needed to fix the refrigerator, Umar told me the estimated cost and shortly thereafter scheduled a repair with us for today - only one day after Jason's visit! That was a welcome and very surprising aspect. Jason did the work quickly, with obvious knowledge and experience, and warned me that the metal frame around the water and ice distributing panel might show a slight twist or bend when he returned it to its usual position. He had to remove the frame, however, to replace the flapper. Jason also did this part of his work so well that the frame looks better than it did originally! When I asked him to please leave the refrigerator out of its usual location for a few minutes so I could clean the floor, he said he would do it and did so. It is seldom that I've seen a service provider go "above and beyond" like Jason did. Comparing prices on Angie's List that some other repair companies have charged for similar work, I think ATR's price is a bit above average, but they're worth it. They are knowledgeable, experienced, patient, kind, and friendly. If we ever need major appliance repairs again, I will definitely go to ATR. Thank you, Umar, and thank you, Jason!

I highly recommend Above the Rest for appliance repairs. My refrigerator was making a loud noise, Above the Rest was the only company that followed through after I contracted them. The owner, Umar, was extremely professional and despite it being Friday afternoon, he still fit me into their tight schedule and even drove to Alexandria to get the needed part. Umar went above and beyond to accommodate me. Jason, the technician, arrived within the window of time that Umar provided. Jason was very professional, courteous, and knowledgeable about the problem. An excellent experience all around and I will not hesitate to contact them again.

Within seconds of submitting an issue at Angie's List for quote, Umar responded. As he was local to my city, and had good ratings on AL, I didn't even respond to others that reached out. Umar diagnosed the issue over the phone (I had done some previous DIY remediation on the defrost issue that didn't fully fix) and said he would text back an estimate later that day, but it never came. I followed up four days later and he was apologetic, able to order parts, provide me an estimate, and quickly set up a time to repair. The repair person (Jason, I believe) arrived within the promised time window and installed a new Defrost Heater and Defrost sensor in the freezer, as well as cleaned the defrost drain from rear of the unit all within an hour. Everything is working great so far, and there is a 90-day warranty, which is nice. Pricing for the parts themselves were $40 or less from Sears Parts Direct and other vendors when I checked, so the total repair cost was very high for an hour's work, with labor running ~$330/hour.

Umar, co-owner of the company, came out to the house personally to inspect the regrigerator-freezer, as he said it is hard to determine the actual problem in such cases. He made an assessment that the freezer was not defrosting properly, and that the icemaker was NOT the problem, but a new defroster mechanism was needed. Therefore, we set an appt. for the next day to replace that mechanism, during which time we would manually defrost the freezer. This way, we would not have to defrost the fridge part, and could leave food the that unit. Umar returned the next day at the scheduled time with his technician, who replaced the defrosting unit, along with the temperature sensor. That being done, they left. The icemaker resumed making ice. In short, ATR fixed the problem, was courteous and efficient. The price was within the amount I had reason to expect to papy..

Perfectly. It was an early evening appointment on Saturday - when Jason discovered that he didn’t have a required part (and I resigned myself that I would have to wait till Monday), 30 minutes later Umar showed up with it! So grateful! Wonderful, professional, and courteous young men. ( I’ve done two loads of laundry since.) Above The Rest is DEFINTELY my go-to ‘fixer’ from now on.

Umar and his assistant were fantastic. Initially the assistant came out to see what needed to be done. Umar called shortly after his assistant left and explained what would be needed and what the cost would be. Due to the fact that in addition to the heating unit needing to be replaced, the wires had burned out and also needed replacing, meaning the entire unit had to be removed from the wall in order to properly repair the oven Both Umar and his assistant came out to do the job. They were punctual, and worked tirelessly explaining to us what they were doing as they worked. They are perfectionists and clearly have an excellent work ethic. Above the Rest is a perfect name for the company because from our experience they are. We would hire them again in a heartbeat and highly recommend Above the Rest for any appliance repair you might have.
