Residential Heat Pump failure. Previously serviced by another company, Told would need to replace system. Called Phil for estimate, explained chronological history of failure. He listened, looked, checked and tested and identified the point of failure, Replaced that part from his truck and the system is running again as it should. Phil explained clearly as he worked, very informative, professional and personable. I highly recommend Philco Mechanical Services and will call on them for my seasonal inspection and service.

It went very well. He came out and diagnosed the problem then fixed it by replacing the part that didn't work. I have had no problems with my AC since. Phil was very polite, personable, and professional. A comfort to have someone so knowledgeable and professional come to my home to fix the air conditioning.

Phillip gave us a very reasonably priced estimate compared to other HVAC contractors in the area.  We did any electrical prep work that he recommended we have done prior to the installation.  His crew was very professional and made sure they didn't make a mess of our home during the process.  They cleaned up everything after the work was completed. We were very satisfied with their work, and the units cooled the house and finished attic well over the very humid summer and during SnowMaggedon 2016. As of the date posting this review (9 months after installation), we've found that the units heat and cool the home well.

This is the third time that we have used Philco Mechanical and each time has been an exceptional experience in terms of price, scheduling and quality of service. If there is a mistake on their part, they correct it promptly and at no charge.

Prompt, courteous, and professional. Quality workmanship at a competitive price.

We had previously used Phil to install an upstairs central AC system when we first bought our circa-1928 house.  After about a year, we realized we needed a new boiler installed, and got the best quote out of about 3, from his company.  Further, his quote was the most detailed and convincing that would be kept within budget.  He outlined the particular unit that would be required and the various components of the install, as well as the fairly specific date range he could come out.  This was in summer of 2014, and the install was set for mid-autumn.  
Due to his scheduling, the install was delayed a short period, maybe a week.  The installation also took over a week, due to various other conflicts in his schedule during this time, so the install didn't happen all at once. That was not an issue since heat wasnt needed during that time.  If there is one thing I would mention, is that due to his location (Woodstock) and relatively few members of his company, it is not always possible to get instant service the way you would with a large brand-name HVAC company.  However, Phil makes up for it with his genuine interest and knowledge of each particular project, as well as reasonable cost. 
In this case, Phil and his coworker Tommy spent a number of days completely rebuilding my boiler, since previously there were 3 zones serviced by 2 different boilers.  So they had to disassemble each old boiler, then install the new one along with the necessary pipes and pumps. This process appeared to be relatively complex and they performed the work with skill.  The new system is impressive and has greatly improved heating quality and efficiency in our house. Recently he came out to do a free maintenance check up on the system to ensure it was properly working.
I feel confident that I will continue to use Philco for future HVAC needs, and strongly recommend him.

One of my cats ripped up some flexible duct work in my basement, so I asked Philco to replace that as well as service the oil furnace. Thomas called the morning the work was scheduled to let me know he was on his way, arrived on time, and was courteous and professional as the work was performed. While he was there he took a look at a couple other things, went over how everything looked to him, and asked if he could do anything else while he was there (despite the fact my dogs barked the ENTIRE time, which had to have been annoying). The cost seemed reasonable, too. I am very pleased with the work that was done and will definitely be contacting Philco again for service needs.

We had trouble with our heat pump last summer and first contacted Philco at that time.  Phil recharged our old unit and added a dye to determine where the leak was in the system.  The system worked  for a while but this fall we couldn't get anything but resistance heat.  We called Phil and he came out promptly and accessed the situation.  The leak was in the coil and he could replace it but he told us that the problem would occur again in 3 to 5 years due to the inferior quality of the existing system.  He quoted us a price for replacing the coil and also gave us a price for a new quality system.  Since we had never been satisfied with the old unit and intend to continue living in this home for some time to come, we decided to get the new unit installed.  Phil consulted with us and we arranged an installation date.  He arrived early yesterday and went right to work.  He removed the old unit and installed the new one.  He cleaned up the job site and the work was completed by mid afternoon.  He tested out the system to make sure everything was working properly.  Everything was done very professionally and to our satisfaction.  We are very pleased and will contact Philco again for future work.

This is not the first time we've used Philco actually.  I've gotten quotes and work from Phil before.  In this very backwoods area of the country, Phil is a breath of fresh air.  He is modern - uses email and online invoicing! - and conducts himself very professionally.  No need for me to provide proof, just look at his string of reviews online.  Everyone that meets Phil will like him.  He's honest and he tends to care about your situation in a way few tradesmen exhibit anymore.  If he doesn't get the job, he's not combative or hostile.  He just says kind words and moves on.  Phil is the type of tradesmen you wish all of them were like.  Educated, professional, quality, caring.  I've been run through the gauntlet of bad tradesmen over the past year - we just completed a year long project of a 10,000 sq. ft. lodge - so maybe I'm just sensitive to it now more than ever.  Guys like Phil are about one in a hundred anymore.

He had to take apart two heat pumps and place them through a small attic portal. There isn't a scratch in the house. He is a pleasure to work with. His work is very precise and I think he's a real quality technician. He's very good at explaining what needs to be done and we're very pleased with his work.
