The large limb that was removed was as big or bigger than many trees and missed the house by inches.  The 150+ year old tree is at the back of our large lot, surrounded by 60+ year old English boxwoods planted about the time the house was built (early 1950s), as well as magnolias, hydrangeas, azaleas, and other shrubbery.  For no apparent reason except age and weight (no recent wind or rain), the largest limb (connected to the trunk about 10 ft from the ground) split from the trunk and fell across the backyard, completely squashing the chain link fence section that ran from one corner of the house to the back property line.   But, it remained connected to the trunk.
The company was called in the morning, and the owner and another worker came to the house to assess the situation and provide an estimate early in the afternoon.  They explained what they would do, including the equipment that would be used, and the estimate they provided was all-inclusive, including removal of all the lumber and the demolished fencing.  They said they could do the work within the next 2 days, or they would have to wait for up to a week because rain was forecasted in the next 3-4 days and would leave the ground so wet that there would be significant damage to the lawn from the heavy equipment they would bring in.
We engaged them the day after the estimate, and they came to do the work the next day.  We are extremely pleased with the quality of their work and the manner in which they did it.  We would not hesitate to use them again and wholeheartedly recommend them as tree service contractors.
