WARNING. Back in February I contracted STANLEY TREE SERVICE for firewood, tree removal and removal of bamboo. This Co. is out of Culpeper (run by Lester "Andy" Stanley & Donnie Marks.) At first Donnie was very responsive and seemingly professional--even providing an "official invoice" for their work (requiring my signature. What a joke.) In short, they first brought a cord of firewood that smoked for weeks. (I mentioned this every day that they came to my house to work in the rear yard and they just shrugged and said, "It wasn't covered, hon. It just needs to dry out little more.") Most notably, they spent three days removing an enormous and invasive crop of bamboo behind my house. Per their own contract they were to "remove ALL bamboo and root system" and then treat the area with "spray to prevent return." For all of the work (not including the lousy firewood) I paid them $7,000. Within two weeks the bamboo had begin to visibly re-sprout. Initially I hadn't worried too much because we'd discussed additional work that would require them to come back out within a couple weeks anyway. Nevertheless, I immediately contacted Donnie who was not surprised, and said "Yeah...I had a feeling we'd have to spray again. That stuff is tough." He promised they'd be back out within the week. Every week--multiple times a week--between the beginning of March and today I have contacted Donnie and/or his partner by text and or phone. At first they promised again and again they'd be out one day, then another day, then another. Two weeks ago they stopped responding to me all together. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and accepted their preposterous excuses...until now. I've never been anything but pleading and polite (because I was actually trying to get them to return.) The bamboo aggressively returned is now over ten feet high. The irony is that if I'd known sooner what crooks they are I would have hired another company to come in sooner--before the regrowth had basically negated ALL of the removal I'd paid them to do. Their method was inadequate, their promises were lies--at first--and now no fewer than 20 times. Now I will have to spend a ridiculous amount of money to do the same job again but with more extensive (invasive and honest) care. PLEASE DO NOT HIRE STANLEY TREE SERVICE. They don't deserve to be in business, nor do any other home owners deserve to be cheated and scammed. (Check the BBB. I'm not the only one they've cheated.) They were very nice. We got a lot of snow when it was supposed to be delivered, so they were very apologetic that they couldn't deliver when they said, but I understood given all the snow. Most importantly they gave us a fair amount of wood. Last year we got shorted, so it seemed like so much more when they stacked up our cord. I will use them again next year. The kindling they provided is great too.

The job was done while we were out of town and it looked like an excellent cleanup job was done; we were also pleased to have some firewood because, when we purchased the property, we had removed a lot of rotted firewood from the house environs and will need this in the future.

They did an excellent job for the price! They were fast and neat. I would recommend them to anyone. They were also very polite.

Andy gave me a very reasonable estimate for removing a large cherry tree that was very close to my carport, along with other work that needed to be done in the yard. He and his team were timely and left the yard very neatly cleaned up. They did a great job and were very professional.
