The land was improperly leveled, which had to be corrected. Grass was planted in July and of course promptly died. Although we had specific promises that they would plant trees and shrubs according to the instructions we provided from Merrifield Garden Center, they left on the burlap, planted the items far too shallowly, and did not dig sufficient loose earth around the items. Many died. The builder and the landscaping company refused to replace them. The stone walk was not laid straight and had to be fixed. The stone steps did not meet building code and had to be fixed (although I am not certain whether the steps were the responsibility of the landscaping or the building company). The builder made promises that dirt would be extended out to cover the tops of the culverts. These promises were not kept. Assessment of Gearing Landscaping: very poor value; very low professionalism; very high aggravation.
