Chimney Cricket Chimney Sweep

I called Chimney Cricket to come out and inspect/sweep my chimney since starting a fire in the (masonry) fireplace had always resulted in an unusual amount of smoke coming into the house. They fit me in quickly - that was nice - and he did the sweeping. Fast forward, I started a fire for the first time since the sweeping, and it was still really smoky. I had recently done some drywall work in the ceiling of this room, and still had a hole in the drywall. I observed a significant amount of smoke coming out of the hole (YIKES), so I doused the fire and felt around to make sure there was no interior fire. I also went outside and observed smoke coming through a pinhole mortar joint in the side of the chimney. I called him back to come take a look and find out why he hadn't told me my chimney liner was cracked. He came back - which was good - but assured me that there was no way smoke could be leaking into the house and that it was cycling back in through the attic. I subsequently confirmed that this was not the case, and finally called another chimney company out to have a look. They quickly reported that my liner was in poor shape, and a new steel liner would be necessary. So, bottom line, *DO NOT* use this company to perform an inspection. I would advise care in using him for sweeping, as long as you are very confident your chimney is in good shape. I can't speak to the quality of sweeping, though. I know the price is attractive, but sometimes you get what you pay for.

Great Job. Bought a house with a fireplace and two wood stoves. Called Chimney Cricket on Friday afternoon and Jeff was able to come on Saturday. He was familiar with the chimney having cleaned it in the past for the previous owner. He looked at one stove and said it was fine and didn’t need cleaning. Turns out the other stove was really bad and the fireplace really needed cleaning as well. As he cleaned the stove and the fireplace chimneys, he gave me great tips on operating and maintaining both. He left the house spotless.

Very responsive and reasonably priced. Sealed cracks with silicone caulk. Came on time, even on a rainy day. Did work without a scaffold, which most other contractors insisted upon, saving me 3-4 thousand dollars.

Doug showed up promptly at the appointed time. He inspected the chimney and cleaned it thoroughly using brushes working up the chimney, including the damper area and the back of the firebox. All the mess was contained to the fireplace and he was careful not to mess up the rest of the room. Doug was personable and professional. I would use his business again and I highly recommend him. The price was exactly as quoted when I made the appointment.

Couldn't be happier with the service. He was punctual, nice, and the price ($105) was very reasonable. He inspected the chimney and then cleaned it. As a new homeowner, I had a lot of questions and he had the answers. He recommended a better grate to help protect the firebox and removed our sub-par one for free. Very quick and left the house clean. I highly recommend using 'Chimney Cricket.' He told me I only need the chimney cleaned every 2-3 years if the fireplace is lightly used, I know who I'll be calling in the future.

Jeff arrived within a couple of hours after my initial call, which is amazing and really appreciated! He knew exactly what to do, of course, and took care of everything quickly and cleanly. The fee was quite low, especially for such an expert. Jeff's consultation about chimney care was great, with extremely useful advice for the homeowner. I wouldn't think of calling anyone else from now on. I have heard similar glowing reports from other people about Chimney Cricket.

This was first time for Chimney Cricket for us. Our previous sweep was no longer in business and we found Chimney Cricket thru Angie's List (and he was familiar to us already by a recommendation from our previous sweep) . On time, friendly and polite, professional, explained everything that was being done and why. Careful with ladder around our garden and roof and cleaned things up as he worked. For his attention to detail and time spent working, a very reasonable price. 1 & 1/2 story house with easy access to chimney. One woodstove. We hope Chimney Cricket will continue to be available to service our chimney.

He arrived on time and did a great job. I especially liked that he inspected the chimneys before starting work to see if they really did need cleaning.
