It always goes great with Phil. It has been a real blessing to find Phil. He is my go-to HVAC and plumbing guy. He has done numerous jobs for me over the years. We own a vacation home a Smith Mountain Lake and a rental home in Lynchburg. We live in coastal Virginia. It is very difficult to find honest, reliable contractors that you are willing to have complete, unattended access to your home while you aren't there, but I would trust Phil with anything. Over the last few years, Phil has replaced the entire HVAC system, and the hot water heater and installed a garbage disposal in our Lynchburg rental and has replaced the main HVAC system and installed two mini-split systems in our SML house. This particular job was at our place at SML. We had recently done some remodeling, part of which was installing an additional hot water heater in a studio apartment. We have well water and found that the water in the studio smelled very strongly of sulfur but the water in the house (common supply) did not. Our research determined that the smell was a harmless side effect of the minerals in the well water interacting with the anode in the new hot water heater. Since the water in the house didn't smell, we determined that the anode had probably been completely eaten away in that water heater. It was extremely old, so I wanted to replace that water heater and remove the anode from the one in the studio. I tried to get it out myself, and there was no way. I thought I was going to dislocate my shoulder! So, I called Phil and he agreed to install the new water heater and remove the anode from both units. I ordered the water heater that I wanted from Lowes (military discount) and Phil picked it up, removed the anode, removed the existing unit, installed the new one and discarded the old one. He also removed the anode from the studio water heater, flushed the system and restored it to operation. All while I was at home over 4 hours away. I highly recommend Atkinson Heating and Air. Phil is trustworthy, honest, and very professional. Although he is over an hour away from our SML house, he is still willing to do work for us there and for that I am truly grateful. Phil, if you read this, I thank you very much for the years of flawless service. No offense, but I hope that I won't have to contact you again any time soon, but if I need HVAC or plumbing, you'll be the only call I'll make!
