"Thanks again for the opportunity to Design and build your outdoor project in Little Rock Run of Clifton. We greatly appreciate you taking to time to provide us with a very positive review and letting others know of your experiences with me and my company. Thanks again Mark Shriner"
Pros:
Craftmanship
Great customer service - followed up after project
Quality material
I would recommend them.
The roofing and electrical for the screened-in deck were subbed out. We did have to wait a few extra days for the roofer, gutter installer and electricians, but all in all the wait was worth it. We are delighted with our new deck and screened-in deck. I would highly recommend Mark Shriner Contracting for any Deck, covered living area or Patio project.
Unfortunately some things happened and we had to postpone our project until recently. We reached out to Mark to see if the quote was still valid. We also told him that we thought we wanted to go with wood given the price. He returned a quote for $5700 for wood and we told him we wanted to move forward. When he sent us the final paperwork/quote for us to sign and return to begin the project it was for $6200. I was confused at the increase but noticed that the quote specifically mentioned using Trex. We assumed that Mark was able to get a better price for Trex for some reason, but we asked that along with other questions when we returned the signed form. We sent several emails, each with several questions, as the replays we were receiving were only answering one or two of our questions, not all of them. One of our questions referenced the bottom deck cleaning and staining as it was not listed in the quote we signed and returned. We were finally told that that would be $620 more. I don't know how that was left off of the project, but we agreed to still go forward and again asked questions to ensure everything was set. Our final price was supposed to now be $6700. Mark finally agreed to come to the house today to meet in person.
Mark came by the house this morning for what I thought would be a simple final check in before work would begin. Mark and I discussed the project for about 15 min and I thought we were good to move forward. He said that we could begin in 2-3 weeks. After he left, Mark sent an email with an updated quote saying that it would be $8600. Several emails back and forth today led us to cancel the project. Mark offered contradicting emails, and even tried to blame us for many additions and omissions to the project even though we had made none; our project has always been pretty simple as stated before. He tried to show math by saying that trex was $1900 more expensive than wood (our and quot;newand quot; wood quote was $5700), but that should have at most taken the project to $7600, not the new $8600. He then tried to explain that away by saying that he didn't originally think all of the upper wood that was staying was to be cleaned and stained. How would and quot;staining the fence really finish the project nicelyand quot; if he thought he was leaving large amounts of old/disgusting wood untouched? Its not even a plausible explanation. He failed to honor any of the quoted prices he had provided to date, except for the new one that was somehow increased by thousands.
I have no faith in this company's ability to even provide a quote for such a basic service. Given the large price fluctuations, and the attempt to blame me for their repeated errors, I would wonder if their quote would later be considered an and quot;estimateand quot; and they would gouge me with price overruns while completing a simple, one-day project. Needless to say I will not be doing business with this company.
No follow up of how did we do? Are you happy? What else can we do?
Execution and follow up are key. How do you expect to get a reference?? Maybe you don't?
"Yes, I did speak to [Member name removed], but no formal date and time were ever established to meet at his home. I normally meet 4 customers a day, 5 days a week, and provide timely, accurate, and precise estimates for the work they are requesting. He was in and out and town and we never agreed to a date and time to meet and review his project. My company provides quality products and services to residents of Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William counties in northern Virginia, it would be nice to be graded on performance once we had actually had our 1st meet. Really ???"
