Jim was great....i'd give him A-pluses if it was listed. He has an immense knowledge of pianos from any era. He taught us a lot about our piano, it's structure, components, etc. Apparently we have a Jewell on our hands and didn't even realize it. It is a 1930 era German upright. As an added benefit he played a variety of tunes, rhapsody, classic, folk and modern to see how it played. You won' t be disappointed.

After two hours of careful work, Mr. Smith gave me a piano with a wonderfully rich and balanced sound! I will definitely have him back to clean the piano and perform regular tuning services!

He gave a thorough examination of my antique piano.

Jim arrived on time, after calling ahead to say he was on the way. He was knowledgeable about our WW II era Steinway and took the time to talk with us about it. It had not been tuned in 6 years, since we had been living abroad. He took the time to gently bring it back into tune. He also made recommendations about cleaning the insides of it, which we will schedule with him, some time in the future. It was a pleasure to work with him and we would definitely recommend him to others!

I called Jim on December 26 and he said he could come and tune the next day. He arrived promply and took the extra time to explain the condition of the piano, its history and workings in detail. He went about his work as a true professional and spent almost 2 hours working on the Yamaha and the results were super. We will have Jim take care of our piano for anything that needs to be done in the future. He is a fine tuner and a fantastic pianist as well. Beautiful playing on our new Yamaha. Now the wife and I have to improve to get ourselves to really let the Yammie soar. This charges were $100. He did such a great job that I didn't even use the 10% Angie's list discount and ended up giving him a $20 tip since we were so pleased. I have no hesitation in highly recommending Jim to anyone that needs a piano tuned, cleaned or just appraised before the purchase (a good idea by the way).

One of my best finds on Angie's List!! An absolute professional with amazing knowledge of all parts of the piano. I learned so much, my piano sounds fabulous, and listing to him play the piano was sheer pleasure. I will definitely be using Jim for ALL of my piano tuning and cleaning needs.

He called in advanced to let us know he was on his way. He was on time. He evaluated our piano, tuned it, and gave us great information about the piano's age, and value. Gave us upkeep suggestions and was very courteous and professional. I would defiantly recommend him to other customers because we will be using him again.

Mr. Smith did excellent work, and he didn't mind that I sat with him part of the time just to listen to him PLAY my piano! After he was done, my piano sounded better than it has in years. He suggested further maintenance, which I will probably have done in the future.

He was fabulous. He actually went to some friend in Washington State or Cleveland or Chicago to get the missing parts. He has called back immediately any time we have called him. He was just wonderful and we will always use him to tune the piano.

He came on time and was cordial as he did his work on my piano. He gave a recommendation to have it done in a month to make sure that the adjustment is holding. I have not done that.

Jim was a few minutes later than we had scheduled, but he called to let me know where he was and when he'd be here. My piano hadn't been tuned for at least 20 years. It also needed a few internal adjustments. He took his time, explained what he was doing, gave me information beyond what I could have even asked about my instrument, and gave me an estimate for a complete workover which I will consider in the near future. He even entertained us with some wonderful keyboard playing in the course of checking the range and results of his adjustments. He was very professional and friendly in every manner. I would definitely use his services again and highly recommend him to bring your piano back to full health.

I thought his services were excellent. There was a pedal loose and the previous repair man said we needed a whole new pedal, but Jim just fixed it. He's really good.

It was a joy getting to know Jim and to watch and listen as he methodically tuned our piano. He was amazing!!!! And yes, he plays throughout the tuning numerous tunes in order to hear how it sounds. I was raised with pianos and have watched many tunigs. Jim is technically the best I have ever seen. He is a natural tuner, pianist, and teacher. We are planning to all be there when he comes back with the part to enjoy a brief concert and to thank Jim for being Jim...he is very modest and can't image why everyone that has him loves him! Jim arrived promptly on time. He was very thorough in his analysis of my piano and tuned it to perfection. Along the way he explained everything he was doing, options for future service if needed, and even played a couple of entertaining songs!

We bought an older upright piano at an estate sale and called Jim to tune it and give it the once over. As soon as he saw it, he knew exactly who built it and when and explained all the inner workings and workmanship to us. He spent about 2 1/2 hours with the piano, patiently explaining his findings to us, and did a very thorough job. He brought his reference book in at the end so we could find out the year it was built. He obviously loves what he does, and is very knowledgeable.

He was absolutely great and he really went above and beyond. He played the piano for everybody, and was very nice and personable. I would definitely use him again, and would highly recommend him.

Based on the good reports on this list, I called Jim Smith to tune my spinet piano - which hadn't been tuned in 20 years. Jim arrived a few minutes early and went right to work. After taking off a couple of panels, Jim toured me through my piano - and reported that it had no great problems - sound board in good condition, no major key problems, strings O.K., nothing broken. He spent the next hour tuning away - at the end of which he entertained us by playing away on the newly turned piano - a delight. The piano - to my untrained ear - sounds good. I learned that Jim has been at this for 27 years. He started as an apprentice in high school at a piano rebuilding shop in New Jersey. He's been at it ever since. I am thoroughly happy with my experience with Jim and will use him again to tune the piano every couple of years. I don't think I could ask for a better experience and I'd recommend him to anyone.

We were in need of a company that could tune a piano in anticipation of a well advertised concert. The artist performing had specifically asked that the piano be tuned prior to the event. I called one company and was told that they could not complete the tuning in the time frame that I requested (one week). I called Jim Smith Piano Service and was told that they could tune the piano in the time frame requested. The company confirmed a date of service the day after my initial call. Mr. Smith arrived at the venue at the date promised and on time. The services were rendered in a very professional manner and the piano tuned wonderfully. The concert went off very well. We're all happy.

Jim did an outstanding job as usual, on an old piano which has several loose tuning pins. He can do repairs and rebuilding too, but that was not needed at this time. He is a real craftsman and fine musician, and does the job very thoroughly and carefully. He will then discuss the piano and what might need to be done in the future. Also, it is a real pleasure and bonus to hear him play as he completes the tuning, often stopping to put a finishing touch on a note not quite up to his standards. We were very pleased again with his work.
