Earl took up my existing tile floor and then laid new tiles without replacing the cement board which had naturally been damaged during the demolition. He never snapped any chalk lines and he did not remove the baseboards before laying the tile. The result was a floor that feels like cobblestones because the substrate is not level. The grout lines are very inconsistent and there are large grout gaps at the baseboards. He didn’t use tile nippers to shape the tiles - he only made straight cuts which caused more large grout gaps around the doorway. He reluctantly replaced exactly one tile then tried to convince me that everything else was fine. Obviously I am now interviewing new contractors to tear out Earl’s work and do the job again. I have photos of all of this.
