The overall service was done late in the afternoon and not completed until nearly 10pm. The system worked for only 5 days!! The same tech (the company owner, Mr. Brewer) returned, stating to my ex-wife that "I knew I should have checked for a leak up in the attic" where the coil and remainder of the air-sending unit was located. He stated that the coil may have a leak as well, but that he would replace it at "his cost." Unsure of his abilities, we called for a second opinion from A-1 Heating and AC of Chesapeake. Their reply after looking at the system? "If you paid the guy, I'd stop the check." The original technician placed a dryer on the system in the wrong location and the coil upstairs did, indeed, need to be replaced. But the real question in the mind of the A-1 was whether the compressor really needed to be replaced at all. In the meantime, Mr. Brewer called me and demanded to be present for the second opinion to "protect his own interests." He wasn't invited to participate. Currently, we have stopped payment to Mr. Brewer and are likely to end up in small claims court over this matter. I would NEVER use this guy again. He doesn't seem to know what he's doing.
Description of Work: Mechanical Solutions of Chesapeake, VA was entrusted to diagnose and repair a failed AC unit responsible for cooling the second and third floors of a private home. The house is up for sale, and the contractor was told that a durable, but economical fix was desired. As such, he found that the compressor to have a bad "winding" or "winding overload" and would require replacement. He estimated the cost for replacement and leak checking at $1466.00. The compressor was replaced and supposedly leak checked.
