They were on time, clean and polite, but they missed things which should have been obvious to a trained inspector. Within the fist month, I found the water drains were very restricted and flooded the kitchen. It seemed like grease had been dumped down the drain and I had to have it scraped ($500). I called Mr. Burke who said he'd get back to me and then did not call me or answer my calls. Now I've found issues in the attic where joists had been cut and not reinforced properly, causing the roof to dip. How they did not see this is crazy. I wish I had gone up there myself because even an IT guy can see the problem. How did the professional not?

It went great. John came in and went through the house very thoroughly. He told he was going to be a nitpicker and he certainly was (which we appreciated). Most of the things he noticed were minor and not a big deal, but we were able to negotiate a few items because of his warnings. His report was available online soon after the inspection (within 24-48 hours) and it was very thorough. After he did the inspection, he hung around and showed us a lot of what he was talking about, which was much appreciated. We were very happy with his work.

Every step of the way it went really well. I found this company through a friend. This friend is a prominent builder in this area, and has been president of Tidewater Builders Association, and sites on the boards of several banks. He had been impressed by John Burke's work, and sent me an inspection report that John had done. I was impressed with the level of detail, and the clarity of the write-up.
I contacted John's firm and scheduled the inspection. We had a tight deadline. We also wanted a mold analysis done. They were able to get it all done within our time constraints.
John did a VERY thorough job of inspecting the house, and also did an excellent job writing up the findings. There were plenty of photos included in the report, with circles and arrows pointing out each problem.
I don't buy a house all that often, but if I ever go through this again, I will use John for sure. And if anyone ever asks me for a recommendation of a home inspector, I will definitely give out John Burke's info.
