GREAT BRIDGE SEWING CENTER LTD

I inherited my great-grandmother's circa 1908 Singer sewing machine when my mother passed away. It needed some TLC and a local family business appeared to be the best choice. I was mistaken. The shop lost original parts that had nothing to do with the repair then offered to sell me replacements. I was able to provide photographic evidence that the parts were in place when the machine was left in their care. Parts were replaced for free eventually but loss of the original antique parts is careless inexcusable. The machine was transported to the shop in an old case, probably from the 1940s, made of wood with a faux leather finish. The case was in rough shape but was an integral part of the personal value of the inherited piece. It was my grandmother's. The shop proprietor took it upon himself to throw the case in the trash without my permission, consent, or approval before I picked up. Disposal or retention was not his decision to make. It was mine. Then he sold me a plastic horrid case from the 1960s or 1970s so I could take the machine home. I'm heartbroken. I don't know whether the machine works or not because I was so upset over the carelessness and disregard for my property that I barely heard a word that was said after "that went in the trash". This was my first experience with this shop. I was looking forward to becoming a long term customer.

Seemed that the repairman was experienced, knew what he was doing. I was told it would take about 2 weeks to do the assessment and repair due to the Thanksgiving holiday and I would be called with an estimate for the repair once the problem was determined or if the machine was not worth repairing. I dropped off the machine on 15 November…. After 2.5 weeks with no call I called and was told that the machine gear was broken and that if I wanted to repair it I would need to order the part but it would likely cost more for the part and the repair than it would cost to replace the machine. I found that really interesting… I was supposed to get the part, not to mention no phone call. I was told I could come and pick up the machine or just leave it …. I went to pick up the machine and found on the receipt that in fact the assessment was completed within 5 days… just simply no one called to tell me …. NOT recommended….

the service was very good. My 1950 machine works beautifully. I have not tried to sew on the treadle machine. I just want to keep it in working order. My only small disappointment was that I was told it would only take 2-3 days for the repair when it actually required a week before I could pick up my machines. But I am so very happy with how the 1950 Singer is working that I can't complain too much.

Service was terrific. I took the vacuum in on a Friday and had it back on Monday. He also has new and used vacuums for sale but told me that he would try to fix mine first. I truly appreciated that! When I picked up my vacuum, I also purchased a small hand vac that is terrific.

It was a 24 hour turn around. They gave me a quote between $30-$40 to repair it and it ended up being $35. They were very courteous, helpful, prompt, I liked their prices and they were very quick. They have all the repair parts I need there, so I know in the future I can just go directly to them. They also carry accessories such as vacuum cleaner bags and attachments.
