"I do appreciate your business and kind remarks. I am blessed with a solid group of installers to represent our company. Anybody can sell product. A good salesman can talk it up, but in the end product knowledge and good installation is the real task. We work hard to make that happen because our reputation is most important to us."
"I'm proud to be a part of the overall renovations you have made thus far. Your vision for the kitchen was fantastic and now the bathroom is equally as superb. Well done sir."
"I am so pleased to see your review here. This type of job is really what we do best. The nice showroom with tile displays and good help, a thorough job site evaluation, a fair quote, capable / trustworthy mechanics to perform the installation and a store owner who cares about his customers and a job well done. Finally, when the floors have been walked on and lived on and thought about for awhile, a glowing review from a well satisfied customer. It just makes me happy."
"That's the most thorough and complete review I've ever read and I enjoyed every line of it. One thing that sets us apart from the home centers is we know our products very well and can offer good advice and assistance in picking the right thing. We'll tell you all about it and what to expect. Cutting those pocket doors is something other companies are reluctant to do. Some don't want the hassle or simply don't have the skill to do it. We can handle most of those odds and ends things that come up so the customer doesn't get stuck with having to hire someone else to come in. Angie's List has been good to us and If a customer found us on Angie's list then I want them to get the discount. You felt comfortable leaving my guys to continue working while you stepped out. I find this to be the case most often as people have things to do or need to go to work. I would not allow this if I didn't trust my team of mechanics. I personally know and trust all of my mechanics (10 guys, we are a small shop) most of which have been with us for more that five years. The home centers hire outside installation firms to handle their installations. I greatly appreciate your business and your positive comments on this forum."
"I wasn't reluctant to remove the old flooring. We do that all the time. You and I discussed a variety of possibilities but with so many unknown factors, I left that day perplexed as to how to prepare a quote. I've been around this all my life but your's is a tough one to resolve. It's been a while and you may have found someone to do this and I truly hope it was a success. If not, well I still have my notes. Perhaps with a fresh look and some new ideas we could make it happen."
I don't recall the exact date of the quote, but it has been within the last 4 months. The quote was very high... $6.75 per square foot for hardwood. The same hardwood can be found online for less than $4.50 per square foot. I was hoping to use a local retailer, and I even informed the sales staff that I had been looking online and asked if their price was negotiable. (They said yes.) The strange thing was the price that was advertised in their showroom was around $5.50 psf,, so I don't know where the $6.75 psf came from. At first I thought it included the installation price, but it didn't. Also, I was quoted a different (higher) price for the hardwood if I had them install it than if I hired an independent installer. That makes no sense! I was very disappointed with the quote.
Also, Phil seemed to have forgotten about the estimate appointment. After a while (when he hadn't shown up), I called to inquire if he was still coming. The store had to call him on his cell to track him down. He did call quickly after that and apologized. He said he had been checking on a job site. I suspect he had totally forgotten about the appointment. Everyone makes mistakes and perhaps it was an unusual oversight. I don't really know. I would have been able to let that go if the quote had been reasonable.
I received a quote from a retailer in NC for the same hardwood for $5.00 psf.
I can't make any recommendation or comment with regard to their work. My experience with this company was strictly limited to the quote.
"It was back in March I provided the estimate. It's unfortunate for me I was unable to do the work for you because of an uncompetitive product. That brand is my least favorite because of pricing. I don't know why I keep samples of something that is sold for less online. There's a few reasons why cash and carry pricing is sometimes less than installed pricing. Primarily because cash and carry means out the door with no further responsibility for the retailer. Any problems and you have to contact the manufacturer directly to arrange for an inspection. In the case of fully installed product, the retailer has much more responsibility. Any problems and the retailer must be the first one out to inspect the floor. Even after the labor warranty ends, the retailer, as a courtesy to the consumer, should still come out to inspect the floors. Try to get one of the cash and carry joints to come out and they will quickly refer you to the manufacturer. More responsibility incurs more cost for the retailer. I do remember being late. I don't remember why but I certainly value my customers time. Sometimes I mess up though. Overall we do pretty good with the whole package of product with installation. That's what we do best. I have a fantastic hardwood crew and I feel we missed an opportunity to show it because of poor pricing on this item. I think I will throw it out tomorrow"
"Thank you for taking the time to write the review. Reviews are big today as others want to know about your experience with a contractor. I believe if a small company like ours will provide good customer service, products and installation then good reviews will follow. Angie's List had proven to be a great format for all the single store reputable contractors out there whom do good work but have less of an advertising budget. Once more, thank you for the positive review and please call again."
"Thank you [Member Name Removed] It's important to take time with the customer to make sure we do all the things they want done. Since our crews work from our store we do a better job of preparing our installers for the job at hand. That's the advantage we have over home centers because their crews work from a separate, independent location and details get lost in the mix. I meet with our mechanics every morning to review instructions for the days job. We appreciate your business. Thank You."
