On July 15, 2019, I called this company to go to my parents’ house because the AC for my parents was not powering on. They gave me an appointment for the following day and said that they were going to call in when they were on their way. The following day, they called but I was in a meeting so I could not answer the phone. Since they had said they were going to call when they were in their way, I assumed that they were calling to say that they were on their way. It turned out that they call before going to the customer premises to ensure that the services are still needed. Since I did not call back right away, the technician was assigned to another customer. When I called, they told me they did not have anything until the next day. I was pretty upset because they should have explained that they needed verification before going to the house and my parents, two senior citizens of 82 in a medical bed and 79, where without AC when outside was 96 degrees feeling like in the hundreds. That it was difficult to move them out of the house because all my father’s medical equipment. Thirty minutes later, they called me saying that they had an opening and that someone was coming but they did not know what time. Later that day, a technician came and after few minutes he said to my mom that he could not check what was wrong with the AC because it was frozen. My mom speaks Spanish so she could not understand a lot of the explanations but thank God a neighbor that spoke both English and Spanish came in and started asking him questions. He explained again that the unit was frozen that he could not look at it. The neighbor said, what about the one upstairs, to what he responded that it was frozen too. However, accordingly to my mom, he had not gone upstairs. After the neighbor asked him, he went outside and got a ladder. While the technician was upstairs, my mom called me and later put the technician on the phone to talk to me. He told me the same thing. That the unit was frozen that he was coming in the next day to diagnostic the unit. So I asked him that if that meant there would be a charge for both that day and the next day to which he answered yes (which is understandable) Shortly after I hanged up with him, a lady from the company called me and explained that the unit was frozen and that they were scheduling time to come back the next day. She said that she spoke with my mom on the phone and explained everything to her as well. So far, so good. However, few hours later a Senior technical called me and said that one of his Technicians had gone to the house and found that the AC Motor needed to be replaced. I asked him if he was sure that he was calling the right customer and explained what had happened and that even one of the lady called to explain that they could not look at the AC because it was frozen and scheduled an appointment for the next day. He said he would call me back and when he called me back insisted that the problem was the AC Motor and that it would cost $873. I told him that I was going to get a separate estimate because now I did not have trust on what they were proposing. That how would it be possible that he told my mom, my mom’s neighbor, me and their assistant something else and suddenly they were saying it was the motor. If what he was saying was correct, why the receipt did not have any information? Why did the assistant schedule an appointment for diagnostic the unit the next day? Upset, he said that he was going to cancel the next day appointment. I got another company to look at the AC, it was an electrical card and cost us half of the price. Needless to say, I do not trust this company!

It went well, the biggest disappointment was the cost for 410 Freon. Whomever the vendors are, are doing wrong to consumers. Everyone eventually need to replace R-22 with 410, while R-22 is very expensive of what is left, the 410 prices per pound are nearly the same. The company was great, promt, and professional, but the price to fill from the vendor is unfair because there is a lot of 410 refrigernt available on the market. Labor costs and service call was fair as expected. While this unit, 1 of 2 for the house, this unit was only a few years old so it's compressor was much larger than the smaller units today. But it needed 8lbs of 410 refrigerant indicating a very slow leak. This refrigerant is produced in China...most of it. With the added tariffs and R-22 phased out, demand increased and you guess the rest. The refrigerant alone ran about $450.

The duct in my crawl space was in dire need of repair, Some of the ducts had fallen down, the flex supply lines were damaged and needed to be replaced, I had some puddles under my house, and the cooling of my house just didn't seem balanced. Once again, Air Handlers did an outstanding job! Lee and Brandon did a great job of reinsulatiing the trunk duct and replacing eight new flex supply drops. The crawl space looks terrific now and I could immediately tell the difference inside the house when I turned the a/c back on. Additionally, while they were here, Lee and Brandon rerouted the drain line from my air handler to the outside of the house. The existing line had backed up a few times but they provided a permanent solution to the problem. Air Handlers has always provided me with outstanding service! They are honest, reliable, reasonable in price and extremely knowledgeable. Thanks again for a job well done!!!

I discovered that the drainage tube for my air handler was leaking in my garage. I contacted Air Handlers Mechanical, and even though it was after normal office hours and a hurricane was approaching, a technician contacted me within 30 minutes and offered to come to my house that night. After the technician arrived, he immediately isolated the problem and repaired it. I have been doing business with Air Handlers since the company was founded in 1986. I have always found them to be honest, knowledgeable and reasonable in price. I also appreciate the fact that they are always responsive, even after hours and on weekends. Thanks Bill and team!!!

I purchased a discounted inspection coupon from Angie's List and scheduled a time for them to come. Actually I accidentally bought two tickets, which is important later. I contacted the company and scheduled to have a technician come out in a couple of days. The tech came out and seemed very knowledgeable. After inspecting my air handler he explained that the condenser coils had frozen (I looked myself and the coil was indeed a solid block of ice) and that he could do nothing until I thawed it out. He said that he would have to come back the next day and that there would be an additional fee for a return visit, though they did accept my second discount coupon in lieu of payment for the second visit, which was very cool of them. When he came back he was able to check the coolant levels and found them to be low. The coils in the air handler were rusted out and a small leak could have been the cause, but he couldn't tell me without a leak check that would have cost more. Mine was an older system that used a refrigerant that is not longer EPA approved, so refilling it would have cost an arm and a leg, anyway, so I decided to get a quote and replace the unit. I did get a second opinion and a quote from a competitor and their price was better, so I had a different company replace the failed unit. All-in-all, Air Handlers did treat me fairly and I would call them again if I needed to.

My old heat pump compressor died, just before it started getting everyday hot (in May), so I called Air Handlers to get a quote on replacing it. Josh came out and looked over my system, and worked up four options (actually 5, but that was just for a new heat pump). Same day, Josh sent me an email with the options. I chose the "Best" option, a new single stage unit outside, and a new variable speed air handler in my attic. May 7 the two installers showed up right on time, put down floor protection tarps, donned "booties" for their shoes, and began removing my old equipment. By 3:30pm they had the new system installed, charged, tested, and running. After a couple of tweaks on settings, the system has been running for two months now. So far I've only had twoelectric bills, but it looks like I can expect a 25-30% drop in the electric bill, a very good savings. It will take a year to get an overall average, but I'm quite happy with the outcome so far...

Great job. Air Handlers offered a variety of options from high end, extreme efficiency down to a budget repair of the old system. I settled on the 'Good' system which is a great quality Carrier system. The installers were polite, wore protective covers on shoes to prevent dirtying my already dirty carpet. The installation was flawless - they even deleted the price of their included thermostat & installed my Nest I was given for Christmas. Perfect job. Always great service and a fair price.

I wish I could give 10 stars for Air Handlers. You can't go wrong with them. I am a huge first impressions person. First, Josh came to our home, gave us a quote to change our heat pump out to an A/C and Furnace. We also wanted to add a return to our downstairs. He put booties on to protect our flooring from the dirt on his shoes, and then was polite and listened to what we wanted to achieve. Come install time, the team worked efficiently and quickly. The installers cleaned up each day, including vacuuming. We did have a few issues with our install, and the owner, Bill, came out and resolved everything without us even asking for him. We thought just notifying Josh would have things taken care of. But Bill insisted on coming. There were even parts of the install we were happy with, but he wasn't. He fixed everything far beyond our expectations. Every person at Air Handlers is polite and eager to help. They weren't the cheapest, but hands down provided the best service we have ever received from ANY contractor in the Hampton Roads area. Every employee at Air Handlers, from the front office to the technicians, wants to do right, and you just don't find that in a lot of contractors these days. My wife and I are more than 100% happy we chose Air Handlers, and we will be using them for all of our HVAC needs from here on out. They are fantastic!

Both properties have dual zone systems (2 separate systems) which I clearly indicated to the call center, and they called me back after verifying with the boss it would be an extra $20 dollars. Upon arrival the technician indicated the wrong price was quoted and it would $375 vs $195. I was very sceptical upon arrival that I was given one price and then almost double upon arrival. I understand mistakes can happen, but I indicated that I will be flying out of town that day and needed both properties serviced and could not afford any errors or delays. I am concerned with my search for a new dependable HVAC company, that this company did not provide a good first impression and I can not take a chance again when I am overseas trying to manage properties. They did arrive on time and were fairly evaluated for their punctuality. I now have to leave town without the work needed.

I contacted Air Handlers Mechanical Heating and A/C to get my A/C back up and running and I could not be happier with that decision. The price quoted to me was found to be extremely fair after doing some reasearch. The technicians that came to my house were extremely professional and explained the process to me very well. After the work was completed everything was cleaned up and looked as good as it did before the work began. They even performed an installation of a safety switch to turn off the air handler in the event that the drain pan gets clogged and is unable to drain. They also did this work very fast and at a very good price. Once again, I couldn't be happier.

They had a 10 year warranty. They put down the wrong address. When they guy came he went to the house across the street and called and said, I'm at your house and I thought the doorbell wasn't working. I don't know rather to hold that against him or not, it's a regular human error. I had a certain comfort level with them after looking at reviews. I thought if other people had used them and felt comfortable I would probably be happy giving them a call if needed.
