I had taken my car into University Tire and Auto back in May to get new Michelin tires. The tire price was good and they were responsive to get me tires that were not in stock. At that time, I thought the manager and staff were pleasant to deal with. As I was busy at work when I picked up my car, I did not look at my complete bill and rushed out. When I looked at my bill after all was done, I observed I got charged with a $10 per tire fee to put nitrogen in the tires. I did not think and they did not ask me if I needed nitrogen, only saying I had green caps on my tire valves, which means nothing but they added the nitrogen anyway. I chalked that visit up to me not paying attention as if I did, I would have refused paying the bill as these tires do not need nitrogen. Nonetheless, I went back in August for my tire rotation, oil change and a new battery. All went well, until they could not find in their database that I had ever bought tires from them and they wanted to charge me for tire rotation. I had my receipt for the tires to quell that thought, but I found it odd they would even question this as it appeared they had all other transactions I had ever done at this site.
The following is why I will not be going back to University Tire and Auto. When I went to pick up my car I was walking to the location and heard a car traveling at a very high speed out of the auto repair site. I was on my phone and told my caller I needed to get off the phone as I just saw my car coming out of the shop at a high rate of speed. I continued to walk toward the shop and then as I turned into the shop parking lot my car came back about 4 minutes later, braked hard to stop and make the turn right in front of me. The technician came out of the car as if this was standard operating procedure, which is to drive cars dangerously fast, although I know you do not test drive cars for oil changes, tire rotation and new batteries. Basically, he took the car for a joy ride as it is a G37X Infinity, which is a powerful and fun car to drive. Now, when I completed my transaction with the manager I told him what I saw and indicated I was disappointed the technician took my car for a joy ride and at a high rate of speed. What would have happened if he had an accident or damaged my car? The manager acknowledge the mistake, but did nothing else as it appeared he let the technician take the car. The next day I went to UTA web page and put in a complaint, wanting to hear their response. The Director of Operations called back, left a message and I then returned his call to his assistant, who told me I could not leave a message as he does not have a voice mail, which is strange in today's world. Anyway, I have not heard back and do not expect to hear back from this organization. I won't be going back as the way they managed my car and dealt with this complaint is worrisome to me. I talked to other people in the auto repair profession and they indicated to me if this was ever done in there shop the technician and manager would be facing some disciplinary issues or terminated, especially since the test drive was not needed and it was at a high rate of speed, which was dangerous. I wonder what recourse I have as I am sure my car was redlined many times during the short joy ride.
was this past spring. I called before I went to see if they were busy
that afternoon, explained to them I needed state inspection and oil
change and had a tight schedule for the afternoon. I was told they
weren't too busy and that they could get me in within 15-20 minutes.
They did that. Then I waited over two hours for them to finish the work.
This last experience took the cake. I had taken the car in for
another oil change. Then they tried to tell me I definitely needed
brakes and rotors ($500+), and could use an alignment and new tires as
well. All with a quote totally over $1000. I declined everything but the
oil change. When I picked the car up, I had to take it back because
they forgot to put the air filter back in the car!! Bottom line, today,
in November, I finally need new brakes, my rotors are fine, and I still don't need new tires yet.
They did the work that I'd asked them to do.
