Roy Wheeler Realty Co
About us
In 1927, Charlottesville was introduced to a new way of doing real estate. Roy Wheeler Realty was founded with the philosophy that "service is our most important product." That philosophy stands true today as it was in 1927 when Mr. Roy Wheeler borrowed $300 to open Roy Wheeler Realty on the top floor of the Monticello Drug Store. Today, more than 88 years later, when people think about Charlottesville real estate, the name “Roy Wheeler” is still the first name that comes to mind. Our team of over 120 Real Estate professionals work hard in order to ensure that buyers and sellers get exactly what they need. Roy Wheeler Realty Co. has six offices located throughout Central Virginia, including our main office in the historic Ednam Hall mansion in Charlottesville. Our Central Virginia associates are perfectly positioned to serve you better than any other real estate brokerage can. Before I even met her, Mrs Abbott advised me by phone about establishing myself with a financial advisor and meeting with a mortgage broker; as a result, I immediately knew what I could spend on a new house and the financial range of any mortgage I could take on. She then showed me descriptions of houses and accompanied me on site visits. My first visit to Mrs Abbott's office at the firm's Tara-like building in Ednam (opposite Farmington, and every bit as pretentious) was on a Sunday afternoon; exactly one week later, we submitted an offer (successful) on a house.
I would summarize my relationship with Mrs Abbott as somewhat like that of a whale with an elephant; we live in different worlds and have different interests -- but my goodness she knows her business -- and pretty much everybody in Cville, as well. Once she realized that someone with more than 7,000 books had special housing needs, she conjured up my dream house (three floors, each one dominated by a single room, 16 x 30' in size: stacks!).
The walls of Mrs Abbott's office at Tara are festooned with framed citations and certificates of excellence. If I were a credentialing agency, there'd soon be another candidate for framing on her wall. I am greatly in her debt, and I recommend her highly.
"Thanks (deleted member name) for your very kind words on your dealings w Byrd. It is a privilege to have her business here at Roy Wheeler."
She was horrendous to work with, rarely answering emails or phone
calls. When we finally set up the appointment with her to see the
house, she completely brushed us off and left us hanging at the house.
The landlord showed up to feed his cattle and ended up showing us the
house and telling us about the area. Had he not happened to show up, we
would still be waiting as she never answered the messages we left her
or apologized for leaving us there. However, when it came time to pony
up and sign the lease she made sure she didn't miss THAT deadline! Even
when we went to the office to bring her the check for the first month
and deposit, she didn't even leave her office to come thank us or wish
us well. The secretary didn't even know we were coming...had no clue
the house had been rented. Oh, and to top it off, the agent invited us
to her church as we were looking for one to attend. We went...and she
didn't even say hello to us. We sat right behind her and she didn't
even speak. We chose not to attend that church again or deal with Roy
Wheeler Agency when it came time to buy our home. If she is
representing them, she is making them look horrible. I would tell
anyone buying or selling...go elsewhere do not deal with these people
they are rude and out of the loop.
