Tech came on time, replaced the big fan, a $70 part, and then fixed a software problem and did other adjustments. Was very courteous and professional.

It seemed like a long, disappointing process. However, I found them to be honest, polite and eager to resolve the issue. I believe that their recommendations were sound and I followed their advise. I am very happy with my new desktop and I would use this company for any computer issues that I will encounter in the future.
Response from QuickFix

MY COMPUTER'S PERFORMANCE HAS IMPROVED CONSIDERABLY. THEY RECOMMENDED THAT I ADD A STAND TO MY LAPTOP WITH A SMALL FAN TO DECREASE THE OPERATING TEMPERATURE. THEY INSTALLED A PROGRAM CALLED
and quot;QF AWESOMEand quot;. THESE TWO ADDITIONS HAVE NOTICEABLY INCREASED MY COMPUTER'S SPEED AND RELIABILITY.
ALL OF THE WORK WAS REMOTELY PERFORMED FROM THEIR FACILITY IN CHARLOTTESVILLE VIRGINIA TO MY HOME IN GILBERT ARIZONA.

-I was given a rough estimate. I was called later that day and informed that the estimate might be higher - I asked them to go ahead. Finally, when I did go to pick up the laptop two days later the final invoice was for more than the original estimate but less than the potential cost I was told on the phone later that day. The laptop seems to be doing fine now.

I took my laptop in to Quick Fix for an overheating problem. They were great from start to finish. I emailed about 24 hrs after I dropped the computer off and got a very thorough email update on my problem then a phone call a few hours later giving me final results of their tests. Ultimately they didn't feel the issue was a dust or fan issue. They told me they were willing to break down the laptop but they weren't sure that the expense would be justified. I agreed and was able to pick up my computer that day. They gave me some great (free) advice on getting a new laptop (since this brand is known to overheat). They recommended a cooling pad ($26) but told me no less than 3 times I could purchase it elsewhere. Truthfully, a trip to Quickfix is about 100 times more pleasant than a trip to best buy so I was very happy to purchase from them. Definitely no hard sell here. I tried to pay for the work they did on my computer but was told me the diagnostic is free. They would only have charged for doing some sort of repair. Ironically, my overheating problem is now SIGNIFICANTLY better. My computer is back to what I would consider baseline so clearly they did something that worked.
In total I made two visits and two phonecalls and met the two owners and one of their employees. They were uniformly helpful and knowledgable and seem to genuinely enjoy talking about computers with you.

We recently moved to Charlottesville and now use only a laptop that is a few years old and a new ipad. I purchased a wireless printer that has AirPrint capability, but I could not get the printer or scanner to work. I like to figure-out problems on my own, not only because it is cost effective and I learn from the experience, but also because we are in our 60's and unfortunately have been treated by computer techs in the past in a condescending manner like we are impaired children - which I'm sure most of us are from a tech's view, but I have noticed a difference in treatment as I've gotten older. So, I appreciate when I am not automatically treated like someone who answers the phone with the TV remote.
The inability to print and scan at home was really burdensome, so I finally decided to get help and found Quick Fix. I loved that I could make an appointment online through their website (which is full of good, detailed information) . Steve called me the same day to confirm the appointment and was at our house the next day at the appointed time. He quickly understood what I needed and tackled the problems. He explained what he was doing while he was doing it, which was most helpful. He dealt with me in a respectful manner without being condescending or assuming I could not understand him. My laptop was really sluggish and frustrating to use. He reorganized some of my files and cleaned-up the hard drive and did some of the work remotely later that night. He also helped with some security and and other maintenance issues I was experiencing.
Because Steve did such a great job, I can now print wirelessly from my laptop, iPad and iPhone. I can easily scan and send. And, it is now a pleasure to use my laptop which is once again fast and responsive. I told my husband this morning that it is such a weight off my shoulders to know that if I have a problem, I can call Steve who can either help me remotely, or can come to the house to help. I feel like I am in capable hands and will not hesitate to call if I need help.

These guys are TOP NOTCH! Marty explained everything up front and spent a lot of time with me telling me about the software he recommended. After looking at my machine he called me on the phone and talked to me about what was needed at length and got my permission before doing anything. Then he called again and told me about what he did to the machine and what other things I could do to make it work even better. I have been afraid to take my laptop to a repair place because of a past horrible experience at Staples. I'll never go anywhere but Quick Fix in the future, these guys are the greatest!THANKS MARTY!Speed

Overall, I think they are terrible. I think they are very over priced, and incredibly slow to respond. For example, they charged $380.00 to hook up two of my home computers to a network. Also, they aren't prompt with appointments. I would never use them again. I've found places that are far more professional and cost effective.

"I think you are thinking of a different company, Member. I came to visit you on 6/19/2009 after you said you had a terrible experience with a tech that didn't solve your problem. I came to your home and determined that you had a defective internal network card. I replaced it. Norton Antivirus was making your PC take forever to boot up. We removed it and replaced it with AVG. I optimized and sped up your laptop and desktop. They were both working very poorly before I came. Then I setup your office network so that all of your computers could print to all of the printers. I did all of this in 2.5 hours (All of this info comes from my customer notes on the invoice). The extra costs were AVG Pro, my travel fee ($0.90 per mile), and the emergency fee you paid to see me before my other clients. You were very happy with the service when I left. The cost was not $380. You paid: 55.08 in travel, $200 in labor, $51.99 for AVG Pro version, and the optional $200 emergency fee so that you could see me same-day (+ tax). The total was $509.67... in July of 2009, you called me back to help with QuickBooks. We found your QuickBooks file, backed up your QuickBooks file, made it so that you could use QuickBooks from both of your computers and I showed you how to setup new users. I also installed an Uninterruptable Power Supply on your PC so that you would have less to worry about during storms and such. The total cost of the service + the UPS was $416.77. $55.08 for 61 miles of travel + $200 in labor + $153.99 for your UPS + tax. Again I remember you being very happy... The last time you came to us, it was with a malware infection. You brought your computer to us at our Pantops shop. We were swamped. We had 20 computers on the bench and an another 8-10 computers on the floor. I told you that unless you paid a priority fee to be moved in front of the people who were waiting, it would be about 2 weeks before we could fix it. This time you were disappointed, but you seemed to understand. We were just super busy. You decided to take your computer elsewhere instead of paying the priority fee or waiting. I certainly understand this. If you mistook us for another computer company, I would greatly appreciate it if you could please correct this review, Member. If this isn't a mistake, and you are truly disgruntled at our business, please let me know how and why. Thanks so much. Sincerely, Bryant Harrison."

Brian came a little earlier than scheduled after he called to make sure it was okay. He came in, explained everything that he was going go do, and the approximate cost. He then proceeded to clean my computer, put in 4 sticks of RAM, a new sound card and programmed my computer so that two different programs could interface. He then spoke with another IT person where I work and added the programs I would need and created a short-cut. It worked wonderfully well. He cleaned up after himself, took my check and I will DEFINITELY USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN. I could find no other company in Charlottesville that even understood what I was talking about when I called around for help. These guys are the tops and are very much in-the-know. Also--he did not make me feel dumb, which is an experience I have had when dealing with most IT people. Thanks Brian.
