In 2012, my water company informed me that my outside water main was most likely leaking since my bill was over $800 for the month. I immediately joined AngieList to find a local company that was not one of the BIG NAME plumbers in my area because I try to patronize the family-operated businesses. At that time, the plumbers who were listed didn't have reviews that I felt I could base a sound decision on; but I wanted to support a small business owner and chose Myers.
Mr. Myers didn't know he was on Angie's List until I told him it was where I'd gotten his name. On our initial conversation, he said he had inherited the business from his dad, that he would make an onsite visit and give me an estimate, which he did. At that time, he was professional and, although I know nothing about plumbing, he certainly seemed to know what he was talking about. We set a date for the work, which entailed bringing in a small backhoe to dig up and replace the main line that was approximately eight feet from the water meter inside my basement. I agreed to his price, based on his explanations of the work necessary.
On the day the work was started, Mr Myers made several back and forth trips into the basement without my being present, which was fine, until he finished the work and took me downstairs to show me the new meter. I was shocked at the red dirt he had tracked onto the carpeted stairs, and when I talked with him about not wearing some type of protective covering over his shoes, he bent over, took a couple swipes at the bottom steps and inferred that the carpet was already worn! I agreed, but it didn't have red dirt ground in prior to his visit. It was his nonchalant attitude and lack of an apology that was unprofessional, even rude.
I paid Mr. Myers that day, and asked him for a receipt to present to my water company for a partial reimbursement on the $800 water bill. He replied that he didn't have any receipts with him but would email me one later in the week. After three weeks, two phone calls and an email; I finally got the receipt.
It has been 3 1/2 years since completion, and I've had no problems with the water line. But ladies, if you don't want to clean red dirt tracked on carpet, or need a receipt, this is not the plumber for you.
