My email to Teresa our sales rep after the installers were on-site and I finally realized that in order to go from stairs that were completely carpeted to stairs with a runner, you need to fix and paint nail holes on the riser HOWEVER you need to remove all the carpet in order to paint the riser BUT Teresa charged me to remove the carpet.
My email to Teresa:
I don't feel the communication was very clear on the steps. You did use the words however I don't feel you communicated what needed to occur. The only way for me to prep the back of the steps was to have all the carpet removed prior therefore why would you charge me to remove carpet? The hardwood finish on the runners of the steps was perfect which is what you were asking about in stating that you do not refinish hardwood. The real issue has to do with the risers that were not painted but would be exposed in the new runner. You never mentioned the risers you only discussed preparing the hardwoods and the hardwoods didn't need anything. For somebody that doesn't deal with carpet like me this makes a big difference and you trying to communicate with me or anyone else.
When they re-installed all the door, the installers hands were dirty and they left black smudge marks on all the doors. We found 2x nails left in the carpet that they failed to remove by stepping on them bare foot. Turns out they are used while stretching the carpet. They had to come back to install the carpet on the stairs which went pretty smoothly and the warehouse manager was great to work with. They also knocked a hole in the drywall during the install which my painter fixed. It was an accident and these things happen. The warehouse manager didn't hesitate to say he would pay for the fix. They installers were apologetic and let me know as soon as it happened.
Of note, six of the tiles had developed small chips within 3 weeks of installation. Our sales rep. quickly came back to the house , took photographs and met with the Armstrong flooring representative. Armstrong felt that this was a very isolated production glitch in a few of the tiles in the lot. They gave us the option of replacing the 6 defective tiles from a matching dye lot or removing the whole floor and installing a complete new floor. They made it clear that if we chose to replace just the problem tiles and if in the future other tiles started to chip, then they would come back and replace the complete floor with tiles from a new dye lot at no cost. We chose to replace just individual problem tiles. They quickly ordered and replaced the problem tiles, with tiles from the same dye lot, so color/ pattern match was exact. Workmanship on the tile replacement was flawless. Six weeks later and no flaws have developed in other tiles. We love the flooring and the attentive warranty service we received when we did have a problem.
