JAMES B.
Aug 2012
This was my worst experience with any service provider for any service.
I hired Digs Inc. to finish a job I had started myself, but became uncomfortable doing because of unmarked electrical wires. Their estimator met me at my property and surveyed the work to be done. I received a quote two days later and immediately signed the proposal and asked that they begin work ASAP.
Their workers, knowing there were unmarked electrical wires, began digging using a digging bar and struck an electrical line knocking out power to a nearby property. Dominion Virginia Power was notified and repaired the damage.
I received an e-mail notifying me of the "incident" and saying they would have their Operations Manager a**** the site. I assumed that with 22 years of experience they would find a way to fulfill their contract perhaps by digging it another way, but after a week of non-returned calls they finally verbalized that they did not plan to proceed. They said that the reason for the delay is that the Operations Manager had recommended "Directional Boring" as a digging method and that they were trying to find a phone number for me for someone that did that sort of work but after a week were unable to locate anyone.
I wish they had advised me sooner, as I already knew of a "Directional Boring" company (Foster Well and Pump dba Commonwealth Underground) and so I immediately contacted them. Their estimator met me at the site and said the dig was not a candidate for directional boring. I asked if there were any other options and he said that he could hand dig it and quoted me a price that was less than 1/3 of Digs Inc. price.
I contracted Foster Well and they completed the work quickly and without difficulty.
The only conclusion I can come to is that Digs Inc. is incompetent and gives terrible customer service. They were not able to complete the work and held up my job for over a week without even being able to locate someone else to do the type of digging they recommended. They mis-advised me regarding how the job should be done. During my last phone call with them they even had the audacity to ask me to pay for the time their guys had spent on the job. Here is the final e-mail message I received from them:
"I have been unable to get in contact with anyone who would be willing to do the bore. I apologize for the delay and for not being able to complete the project as proposed. Because we were unable to complete it, we are not going to charge you for the work that we did perform. "
As for Foster Well and Pump dba Commonwealth Underground I couldn't have been happier with their performance.
