3 years ago, I contracted with them to provide 2 tanks, 1 inground and 1 above ground for our home. The agreement was to be that both tanks would be on the same contract and that both would be checked and on auto refill. Nothing EVER worked smoothly. They never checked both tanks. I was constantly having to call them back to check one tank or the other. They would send me a lease for the large tank saying I hadn't used enough gas for it, but the agreement had been that we were to be credited with the gas we were buying on both tanks, and we were buying enough with the one tank. In addition, we were paying nearly TWICE what the prices were elsewhere, over $4 a gallon AND paying a delivery fee on top of that. Just a royal PITA always. Don't get me wrong, everyone is always pleasant, but If I am paying that much, I expect people to get it right. The people I had switched from had charged me half that price, and NO delivery fee. I will never ever use this company again.
Description of Work: provided tanks and service for 3 years.

Whatever you do, DO NOT USE AMERIGAS FOR ANYTHING. We unfortunately went with them 8 years ago when we built our house, and it seems like we are stuck with them forever. Can't even buy back our tank from them at a REASONABLE price (there is nothing remotely reasonable about their prices for propane or anything else), and switch to a more reputable company like Tiger Fuel. AMERIGAS seems to use the eenie meenie miney moe method for setting their prices. God only knows how long we were price-gouged without even knowing it. We were recently charged $4.79 per gallon for propane by AMERIGAS when the price should have been around $2.35. They totally reem you a new one if you don't use "enough". Kind of like a gas station charging Prius drivers $15 a gallon for gas. DO NOT USE THiS COMPANY!!!!

Problems with Amerigas began last winter when it failed to come to my second home on schedule and my propane tank emptied, leaving my gas furnaces inoperable. Then, after long delays on the telephone on multiple occasions, I was told it would be a couple of days before they could come, as they had run entirely out of gas. Then they scheduled a delivery for a Saturday, and I waited until 10pm with no communication from the driver, when I had to return to Richmond. Amerigas finally filled the tank the following day, and I had to return to restart my furnaces myself (an hour's drive from my home). I later learned from several sources that Amerigas had transferred gas from this region to western regions during the shortage, leaving local customers without gas, and that they were charging as much as $2.00 per gallon more than local-area competitors for gas. So when I decided to install a standby generator and a second propane tank to supply it, I naturally turned to a competitor rather than continue service from Amerigas, both for the old tank and the new tank. My new supplier said that the fair value of my old tank, which I would have to purchase from Amerigas, was worth approximately $400, but Amerigas charged me $800, as I was warned it would. Of course, they had me over a barrel, as the only other option was for me to allow them to come dig up my 500-gal tank, forcing me to buy a new one.
Description of Work: Amerigas required that I buy my propane tank back at twice the fair value when I discontinued service, after Amerigas let my tank run dry and itself ran out of gas last winter, plus it overcharged me for gas.

Amerigas charged $4.93 a gallon for propane gas. Here in Virginia propane is not regulated by the state, so they can charge you whatever they want. We have a 500 gallon buried tank and Amerigas doesn't let you switch companies anymore. We have already paid $2600.00 for gas just this year. There is no excuse for this price when all the other companies are charging less and have not jacked up their prices like that. They are nothing but highway robbers. The driver is the only thing good about the company, he is very nice. The punctuality and professionalism grades are just for the driver. If I had a choice I would not use this company.

I called on 1/7/14 for a refill. They told me it would take up to 10 days to have our tank filled. It has now been 14 days and we are in the middle of winter. I called last night and left a message for someone to call me since it has been so long. No one called me today so I called again and spoke to a man who told me we were not on the list to get propane today either. It is VERY frustrating since they own the tank and we don't have other options. They charge an extra service charge if you tank goes below 5%. It was at 10% when I called and we haven't used the gas for the fireplace since I called. But now it is down around the 5% mark.

AmeriGas are very good. The deliveries are on their schedule and they just come and do it. The delivery driver was friendly and explained everything. It was uneventful. It is just a great service.
