Where do I begin with this company? Unfortunately, I had no choice of who my HVAC vendor was due to AHS warranty. I bought a new(to me) condo on 6/2/16 and was having issues with the A/C. United Air Temp initially arrived on Tuesday, 6/14/16 to diagnose / repair the issue. The tech did not look at my indoor wall unit at all on the first visit. He stated, before filling, that I was 3 pounds low on refrigerant. I have confirmed with several friends in the HVAC business that there is absolutely no way of knowing how low the system is on refrigerant until after it's charged and the refrigerant is weighed. The tech even stated that it did not take 3 pounds. Issue number 1. I was charged $335 for this service. A sound has also since developed from my bedroom wall that sounds like water rushing through every time the A/C is on. A/C does still not cool my condo. Reschedule for service through AHS and same tech is scheduled to come out on 6/16/16.
On the second visit, the tech finally opened the wall unit in my condo to have a look. I also told him about the noise that had developed in the wall and he said it was normal. He determined that the heater coil was still hot from the aqua thermal system that is in my condo and the cool air was being heated before entering the ducting. He turned the shut-off valve off for the heater loop at the water heater to try to prevent hot water from reaching the heater coil. As the system sat idle with the valve closed, the temperature still continued to rise in the heater coil. He suggested that I drain the coil since his flex-hose had been damaged several days prior. He then suggested that I could use the drain hose that he remembered seeing from my water heater. I ran down from my loft, where my wall-unit is, to grab the 3-4 ft hose from my water heater closet. The hose was hooked up to the spigot on the heater coil and the tech placed the end of the hose into the drain pain in the bottom of the wall unit since the tech stated that would be more convenient than draining into buckets. I was there giving the tech a hand. While he held the hose, I turned on the spigot at his direction. He was watching the water flow while I asked if the flow was too hard or soft. He said all was good. As it was draining into the drain pan, I hear a sound coming from downstairs. Water is coming out of the kitchen ceiling in my new condo(See here: [*** Link removed ***] I asked the tech if there was a fault with my drain, and he said no, it had just been overflowing. He continued to drain into the drain pan after he turned down the flow of the water so that it stopped leaking. I was in the kitchen dealing with the mess. The water seemed to never stop draining, but the tech turned it off eventually and said I needed to call a plumber to look at the water heater. He said he would contact AHS since I wouldn't know what to tell them was wrong. I asked about my drywall, he said he would ask AHS about that, too.
After this was done, it appears my A/C is working. However, the sound is still coming from the wall and my hot water is almost non-existent. I have to turn the heat up on my faucet to get somewhat warm water.
I called AHS on Friday afternoon, 6/17/16 since I hadn't heard anything. They said they had not received any calls. I also never heard back from anyone about the water damage to my drywall. I left the United Air Temp service manager, Mark W, a VM on Friday.. Mark called me back this afternoon and I explained the issues I had. First issue, he said that the outdoor unit tells you how much refrigerant it needs, so what they filled and charged me was accurate. I have verified that this is false information. Issue two, since I was the one who physically turned the drain spigot at the direction of the tech, it is my fault and they will not cover the drywall damage in my condo. And since apparently this is something that should have been done by a plumber(but still done by their tech), this is not their fault. Mark still failed to accept responsibility for the damage to my condo and blamed it on me.
At the end of the day, I have semi-working A/C, a loud noise that comes from my wall, damaged drywall, and out $335. I would strongly advise against doing any business with this joke of a company.
they cleaned up after them selves, were curtious throught the day.
their service has been great . this is our 2nd system with them and anytime there was a problem their response time was very good, within 24 hours.
On the positive side, the bi-annual maintenance seems to be doing the trick - my system is nearly 15 years old, and has only had minor maintenance issues so far. The service personnel are always pleasant and professional. They always wear "booties" over their shoes when they enter the home - this is a very nice touch.
old system and needs to be replaced. After the 6k price for a goodman I was over this company. The furnace worked fine for 3 weeks than would not fire up. Total Comfort had just replaced my heat pump so I gave them a call, they came out that day....30 min later....gas valve was found to be sticking/bad. Replaced next day and I have had no issues, even switched the fan speed wires back to normal..works great. Bought me some time.
The really nice thing about this company - they wanted to replace both systems, upsell me some furnace filters
Bottom line - Even though the gas furnace was still under AHS warranty, I would rather pay to have it looked at by someone else, good call on my part - 400 dollars for a gas valve was well worth it.
The "manager" of plumbing, Bobby, seemed friendly (at first). I had asked that a water filter installation take place quickly, as I had a leak under my sink (caused by a prior filter install prior to my move in date). He told me that he had ordered a filter for another client, but he could install this item for me (as the other customer didn't need to have this installed immediately). I was grateful, but didn't realize what I was getting myself into.
I had a faucet in my kitchen that included a (separate) sprayer. This sprayer was the "old fashioned" type, mounted on the counter. The plan was to remove this sprayer and install the water filter "faucet" in its place.
The tech called me to let me know that the original sprayer was connected to the bottom of the main water faucet. I told him that, if it wasn't possible to install this filter, I'd understand. He texted me, saying that he was able to install this filter, after all.
What actually happened: "Bobby" stopped by my house and cut the sprayer hose, fed it through the hole on the counter, clamped it off, reattached the spray head...attached it (via cable tie) to the elbow beneath the sink... and called it a day. Yes, it leaked like crazy! I called with my concern (and also that the water filter was not yet attached to the ice maker)...and mentioned that the faucet was no longer viable, that I would need to purchase a new one for my sink and that it would need to be installed. Long, long story (not enough room here to elaborate fully)...
After a week or so, after a few follow up visits, all was complete...but I noticed that the filters did not include a brand name (the carbon filters need to be changed yearly)...I wanted to find out what brand I had purchased (btw, I was not left with a manual) so that I could change out the filters, personally. As a single woman, I need to cut corners wherever possible. Although communicating with someone (on the HVAC side) at this company on several occasions, I still am not privy to this information. He couldn't find this information for me...(?)
I've thrown up my hands...given up.
This company DID refund me for the cost of my faucet and the service contract...my contact on the HVAC side recognized that my experience was a nightmare.....this was appreciated. However, the fact that I could not (EVER) get a straight answer as to what filter was used has sent me over the edge...to Angie's List!
He shortly came up stairs and I directed him to the outside unit.
He prepared and explained the invoice.
