It was a very good experience. He pays a lot of attention to detail and truly takes pride in his work. He is the builder, as well as the owner, so he is there, on the job. He really takes ownership of what is happening, even if he works with a subcontractor, to make sure it is all done correctly. He kept us informed and stuck with our project until it was complete. He has a wonderful personality, and was great to work with. Also, the job-site was always clean--we even got compliments from our neighbors about how well this experience went!

B+ really. He's a contractor wearing a tool belt who worked on the job with his men so that any concerns could be raised immediately during construction.
Some criticism from my curmudgeon retired contractor husband include:
-- deck boards unaligned across length of deck, and mill stamps on several deck boards did not face down. To be fair, we did not specify these ahead of time. Some screws are missing; we need to call him to put them in and are sure he would come.
The detail work on the railing was clunky, but adequate. (not finished carpentry)
Overall, it went smoothly.. He came when he said he would, kept to a schedule, and finished expeditiously.
They did not smoke on our premises, but I (who am allergic) could smell smoke on their clothes when in proximity.

Nick Daversa was quick with his response and was hired by me and my
neighbor. He and his worker were there within a few days and the job
would have been completed on time had it not rained for 2 days. We are
very happy with his work and plan to use him again for other home
projects. I have recommended him to 2 of my neighbors who also want to
have work done on their homes.

If you're looking for a general contractor to do some home improvement project, I highly recommend Nick Daversa of Strano and Co. After reviewing and meeting with Mr. Daversa and other contractors, I chose him to finish the basement in my home. I did the usual checks before I contracted with him: Better Business Bureau, references, etc. After we discussed my and ldquo;vision, and rdquo; he drew up plans and presented me with a line-by-line list of materials and individual prices for each part of the overall project. We discussed options, revisions, etc. He told me the job would take 4-6 weeks and I retorted with and ldquo;plus 3 months.and rdquo; He advised me that he is hands-on and takes on only one job at a time and ndash; not 75 ongoing projects. He works with two other men: a plumber/electrician and a painter/handyman. They were finished in 4 weeks and ndash; just as Mr. Daversa said they would be! Nick was there every morning by 7:00am and called the one day he was delayed. I saw great progress every day. We made minor changes as we went along. He was always mindful of the budget and let me know upfront what the additional charges would be. He has great ideas and knows his trade. He's been in business for over 10 years. Nick's 2 helpers are just as proficient and hard-working as he is. Each day they left the area as clean as possible and hauled away all the debris. My backyard suffered a bit, but Nick even seeded the damaged area which is slowly coming back to life. I am so pleased with the results. What was once an unfinished basement which we called and ldquo;the dungeonand rdquo; has now become 3 useable rooms: a large family room complete with recessed lighting and a picture window; a full bath with shower; and a craft room with a bonus built-in bookcase, which Nick suggested and added (complimentary) due to some extra space behind the bathroom sink area. The laundry room and the storage area under the stairs remain unfinished and are closed off. Although Nick seems easy-going, he is a hard worker and knows what he is doing. The entire experience was painless and ndash; from contracting to completion. The only drawbacks are the usual construction dust and the inconvenience of having workers in your home at 7:00am. I highly recommend Nick Daversa and will use him to do my patio and minor projects around the house. He also gives a 10% discount to Friends, and Family, Seniors, and Fairfax County Residents. Six weeks after the basement project was completed, Nick sent an e-mail checking in and ndash; his work is warranted for a year.
