Appliance Repair, Small Appliance Repair
Service doctors diagnosed computer failures, need to replace dispenser unit for $2600 !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Called another repairman who came and easily found the water cutoff valve under the sink was apparently moved inadvertently. He turned the valve on and all working perfectly after he replaced the unit Servicedoctors left on our kitchen counter while they “estimated”. STAY FAR AWAY.

Following up on my prior review of my refrigerator and wall oven fiasco. I finally gave up on them ever fixing the wall oven. They tried and couldn't. It's now mid-November and I've had them back multiple times to try to fix my refrigerator's icemaker. After numerous appointments and many no-shows they finally sent a different technician (#2) than the one who failed to fix it on 4 previous visits. #2 said the problem was low water pressure and it would require a plumber to replace a valve. I set an appointment with Service Doctor's for a plumber, but he had to cancel then for subsequent appointments. I have never heard back from them -- maybe they're too ashamed for such poor customer service. Also, I discovered that technician #2 left the icemaker dangling from its water line -- he did not put back the screws that hold it back in. WE have found other miscellaneous screws falling out of the ice dispenser. Totally unprofessional.

I called Service Doctors to fix my refrigerator's icemaker and the top oven on an electric double wall oven. They replaced the icemaker, but it continued to leak. They made multiple visits to fix the oven, but were unable to fix it. They have come back multiple time to fix the icemaker, but been unable to fix it. The last time they claimed it was my fault for setting the freezer temp too low (0 degrees as recommended by the manufacturer). He turned it up to 3 degrees -- the icemaker began leaking within hours. The last appointment the repairman never showed up. I called to set appointments 4 days ago -- they never called back. I called yesterday -- they never called back. I called today and asked for a refund as neither appliance I hired them to fix they were able to fix.
I'm probably going to have to sue them to get my money back. I'm sorry I ever dealt with them. I'm going to find another appliance repair contractor and see if they can't fix the problem.

BEWARE!! This company was hired to replace my hvac and heat pump. They incorrectly installed my hvac which lead to a carbon monoxide leak and the fire department showing up to my house. The boss/owner never showed up and lied about sending someone over to fix the problem. We were out of ac and gas for nearly a week. The installers were incompetent, messy and very unprofessional. If you deal with this company you will have work done by multiple subcontractors so you never know what you will get. Thankfully we froze our credit card so they didn't receive a dime. We made them remove everything that was installed and hired a better company that completed the job flawlessly at nearly the same price as those thieves. DO NOT HIRE THEM!! They will put your home in danger.

It seems everybody who works at service doctors is a liar. A little while ago, I called service doctors and spoke with Kamal/Kemal because my AC stopped working. They agreed for a same day inspection, and by the end of the day, a technician named Amit showed up, explaining how much of a professional he is in this field of work. After inspecting my AC unit, he told me that my control board had died. He said he could bypass the system for now, and then order the part and install it another day, and then he started to haggle on the price. We agreed on $489, parts and labor including inspection, with $200 paid up front. Before he left, he told me he would call me in two days ready to install. Two days later, no call. After another couple of days, Kemal called me to say they would come to install on a Tuesday between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm, a week after inspection. I agreed and on Tuesday, a work day, stayed home and waited. At about 1:45 pm, I get a call from kemal saying the part had not arrived and we would need to reschedule for another day a week away. Now I was getting annoyed with this company and said I no longer want their service and would like my money back, minus the $60 for inspection. After continuing to BS me how it wasn’t their fault the part had not come yet even though they had assured me twice already of appointment dates, I got annoyed with kemal and hung up. Another week goes by, and guess who happens to call? This time, Kemal spoke with another family member of mine that they would like to schedule the appointment in two weeks time because we didn’t agree last time and they were very busy (Yea right, probably still didn’t receive the part and needed an excuse). Later I called Kemal back and said I do not want them to come and I DO want my money back. Finally Kemal says ok, someone from accounting will reach out to you about a refund. Yet another week goes by, no call. So I call the company again, and they tell me sorry, the manager is out, please call Monday. I call Monday; manager is in a meeting, will call back later today. No one calls... The next day at work I get a call from Kemal saying we are sorry but because the order was already placed, there can be no refund. So then why was I told accounting would call me about a refund? "Well sir, the owner called you already and explained everything to you and there nothing more to say". No owner had ever contacted me, only Kemal. I should also mention, after I told this company that I didn't want their service, I decided to order the control board myself; $79 for a new board and it arrived in about 3 days. Being handy, I figured out Amit's bypass, undid it, and installed the new board. Guess what? AC still doesn't work. Finally I thought, maybe the thermostat gave out, so I find an old, basic one I had, and replaced the one I had with it. Instantly the AC came on. Then I took off the new AC board, and put the old one back on... AC still works. Guess Amit wasn't the professional he thought he was, either that or he's just a shyster looking to rip people off. After telling Kemal this, he still wasn't having it and kept telling me how the owner I've never spoken to told me everything. On top of that, Kemal tells me that it’s my fault because they had the part all along and the problem was that I wouldn't agree to have the technician come. The same part they kept telling me hadn't arrived yet. I told Kemal he's a liar and that I was tired of speaking to him, and would like to speak to this owner that he keeps telling me about. What do I get as an answer? "No, I won't transfer you to the owner, and we won't refund your money, you can decide what you would like to do on your own, good bye"

Heating and Air Conditioning Service
Service call made on Friday--was supposed to return following Monday with parts to fix the ice maker. No technician returned Monday--reportedly due to sickness (does Service Doctors have only one technician?) Nobody came the rest of the week. Near the end of the week, I was in the basement and noticed big water stains on the ceiling and water dripping from the ceiling drywall joints. The stains were immediately below the upstairs refrigerator. Further investigation revealed the refrigerator freezer area was slowly thawing and leaking under the refrigerator--slowly enough that water was seeping into the cracks of the hardwood floor and not pooling outside the perimeter of the refrigerator. I then checked the temp of the freezer setting, and it was positioned to a warm setting. I moved the freezer setting to a colder position, and the freezer leak stopped within an hour. It's been fine ever since.
Here's what I believe happened. The Service Doctor tech turned the freezer setting to a relatively warm setting to turn off the compressor to be able to better hear whether the ice-maker motor was working. He actually told me he was listening for the motor and subsequently said it was not working. At that point, I believe he failed to restore the freezer setting to it's proper freezer position. Thereby, over almost a week's time-period, the freezer slowly thawed creating the hard to detect drip. A local, licensed construction contactor estmated the damage to the kitchen hardwood floor (cupping) and finished basement drywall repairs, including painting, at about $2500 Note, the leak stained the felt on a pool table also--$460 to replace the felt.
Did I see the Service Doctor tech adjust the freezer temp: no. But neither my wife nor I did so, and we had no freezer thawing before the tech's visit. Given that, I called Service Doctors to talk to management about some way we could share the cost of repairs. Over the last month, no manger would call me But I did get an email recently from office staff saying management would not help. Please note, that, from time to time, we've used Service Doctors over the last 8-10 years. One would think that management would at least extend the courtesy of returning a phone call to such a customer. But apparently, follow-up customer service is of little interest to Service Doctors management when a problem arises. I will never consider using that company again.

the install went ok - should have followed my gut feeling about them because they wanted to install the heater without looking at the old one first and sizing it up correctly. I think we ended up with a small capacity for our size family. Also, the worst part was dealing with them about the warranty. We had discussed a 12 year warranty but we never got any paperwork for the heater. When I looked up the model online it said it comes as a 6 year warranty only. So I called them and the person was very rude, both on the phone and email and wouldn't even discuss the issue. Finally got through to someone very nice and she sent me a written letter stating they would honor a 10 year warranty. Not what I wanted but better then 6. Overall not happy and would never use again.

Heating and Air Conditioning Service
Initially, I was quite pleased with the responsiveness of both the home warranty company and the Service Doctors' technicians. Unfortunately, ten months later, my heating unit begins blowing cold air again. I couldn't find my original receipt and the home warranty company is now out of business so I returned to the list and chose a couple of folks to come out and do a diagnostic on the system. Let me interrupt the narrative here and say this is a unit that until we took out a home warranty contract, carried it's own service contract. It was inspected twice a year and until the February 2012 breakdown, was given a clean bill of health or was repaired when repairs were required.
When the first company's technician opened the unit's panels, his first comment was someone by-passed your safety. The wires that should have been attached to the safety were now wrapped in electrical tape and capped off. He then fired up the unit. When we witnessed flames shooting out, he said, "that's excessive and you probably have a cracked heat exchanger." He inspected an interior chamber with a mirror (looks like a dentist's tool but on a longer handle) and confirmed the crack. Translation, our system is dead and needs to be replaced.
I wanted a second opinion. The second company's technician's inspected the unit and had a similar response to the by-passed safety. He found a gas leak that was just under the burner (I think that's what he called it). Then he fired up the system and expressed concern about the shooting flames - over a gas leak. He was about to describe the pros and cons of repairing our old unit vs buying a new unit when a fuse blew. He replaced that fuse, fired up the system again and after another couple of minutes, the new fuse blew again. There were no pros and cons to repair vs replace, he declared the system unsafe to operate.
And this brings me back to Service Doctors. I found my original receipt so I called the company to describe the problem we were having with our heater. It was the exact same problem as before. We were ten months into a one year warranty and I am convinced they didn't fix the problem properly the first time. I described what the other technicians found and suggested that since they were the most recent company to complete repairs, they must have misdiagnosed the problem. The technician who took the service call said that was not possible but for him to determine the problem, he would come out but he was going to charge me another diagnostic fee and then make suggestions for repairs.
We set up an appointment for the next day. He called me just before our appointment and said he had to wait for Best Buy to open because he needed a new computer. By the time he took care of that errand, he expected to meet me 3.5 hours later. I said thanks but no thanks.
I am convinced this company knew we had a significant problem with our unit and in an effort to save the home warranty company money, opted for the cheapest/quickest solution: by-pass the safety that would prevent the system from shutting down, close up the machine, and settle for installing a new thermostat.

They installed an heating and air conditioning unit and as part of the deal installed an attic fan. the latter was ripped from the roof in an ice storm, because it was improperly installed. they never responded to our calls and another firm installed a new fan. Repeated attempts by myself and the Montgomery County Office of Consumer Protection to contact them about this were never responded to. Do not use this company!!!!!
The administrator of the Montgomery County Office of Consumer Affairs attempted to resolve the issue and met the same stonewalling as the rest of us.

Had a scheduled appointment for a technician to install a refrigerator compressor between 9am-12pm on 6-14. Called the office around 11:30am since I haven't heard anything from them which operator then tells me that they will have to move my window to 3pm-6pm after waiting even longer with no call back to confirm app I called again at 4:30 to see where the tech was...........I was asked if I could get a call back which I did but was then told that they could not get a hold of the technician and that I would still have to wait for another hour and that they could not confirm that the tech would even make it to my house. I had taken off work and now I'm out of a days pay and no working refrigerator. This company has horrible customer service and would not feel comfortable using them again or recommending them to friends or other customers.

After assuring me that the condensate pump they had installed was "top quality" and wired to shut down the unit on failure, my basement flooded. I found the pump had failed and the unit never shut down. I called them with the problem and they sent out a crew. The first crew that came told me it was the plumbing, not the pump. I knew it was the pump and told him so. He would not hear it and promptly changed the plumbing. An hour later my basement was flooded again. That, however, was not the biggest problem I found. Shortly after arriving, both technicians used my bathroom in the basement. Afterwards I smelled smoke in the bathroom. Later that day the toilet (which is electric with an ejector pump) started making a grinding noise. About a week later it stopped working altogether. I painstakingly emptied and removed to toilet to take it apart. I found a 1/2" peice of plastic tubing and the corner of a ziplock bag in the toilets resevoir. The tubing had got stuck in the motor and broken some peices of the plastic caging off. I removed the peices, ordered a new gasket and was able to get it working again. I personally went to their office to discuss this delicate matter. I was told to get an estimate for new "guts" since there is no telling how long the toilet will last. I got an estimate directly from the manufacturer and sent it to them. The parts were going to cost around $600.00 (the toilet cost over $1,000.00 new and was only two years old). That is where all communication was lost. Muliple e-mails and phone calls were never returned. It took me two months to finally speak to someone. I was then told I had no proof. I had saved the and broken parts and promptly sent them a picture of the tubing and broken peices. I was then told that the owner did not realize how much it was going to cost and was refusing to pay. I myself am a electrical contractor and would never treat a customer that way. It's companies like this that give contractors a bad name. DO NOT USE SERVICE DOCTORS FOR ANY JOB, BIG OR SMALL!

Great in beginning, terrible since has been installed. If I new this was the type of service that I would receive, I would have spent the extra money for a rebutable company. Two guys came out to install the unit and when I got home from work and looked at the unit it did not look professionally installed at all. Also the closet door did not shut completely, and the technician had chiseled away some of the drywall to fit one of the pipes in and the unit was sitting on the old units base and there was a gap of an inch and a half difference between the two. I thought for sure that these guys who installed it could not have known what they were doing. My closet door could not shut anymore because another pipe stuck out too far. They sent different technician over to to fix these problems. It was very difficult to talk to the receptionists to get help for everything and there attitudes were a little unconcerned. So when I did get the tech. over to my home he fixed the small leak first. Then another tech. had to come to fix the pipe that caused the door not to close. After he left that night the unit started to leak. This might sound crazy but this is for real. I called back and told them that the unit inside the house was leaking, so the sent another tech. to fix it. When he was there, he seemed like he knew what he was doing, I asked him if the unit looked right to him. He said , "not at all", "you need a new base and some duct work on top and the pipe needs to be moved to the other side. I asked him why the unit would already be leaking and he said that the previous tech. must have just pushed the pipe in by force so the door could close and cracked the drain pan. He was great and came back with the right equipment and reinstalled the unit correctly. I also asked several times over the phone if I could get a receipt for the work of installing the unit with the type of unit it was and specific info about the unit and I got the biggest run around from the receptionist. They never gave me a receipt with what I wanted on it, which was simple, and any company could do it for a customer in a matter of minutes. I called many times to reach the person who sold us the unit and most of the time received no call backs from him. Very unprofessional company. Had I been an old lady who knew nothing about air conditioning unit it would have still been on it's old base with the pipes on the wrong side and the duct work not properly done etc.

I had a new HVAC unit installed at my condo. The people with whom I worked were all very knowledgeable and professional and cognizant of all standards, codes and regulations that applied to my situation. My unit was on my roof and I did not want to pay to rent a crane to install the unit. They were very accommodating and actually broke the unit into pieces, carried it to the roof and put it together. When I had a problem with the thermostat installed, they came out the next day to replace it with the one that I ordered. Service Doctors provides service to both commercial and residential customers, which means they have people available 24/7 if you have problems. Additionally, they have a great 0% financing option.

The experience was horrible and I now have to go else where to have my appliance serviced. I called them twice but they have refused to honor my warranty. The manager didn't even have the courage to talk with me directly. He just refused to honor the warranty and said they don't issue warranties on appliances. None of my questions could be answered. I have a contractual agreement from Service Doctors that I offered to fax to them for proof of my warranty and was told, it wasn't necessary because they would not honor it.

I found an ad in the yellow pages, stating that they did same-day service, and it included a coupon. They did come out the same day, I give them credit for that, but 4 visits later, I still had a broken washing machine. I finally had to call someone else, and they fixed the problem in five minutes. Service Doctors seems to employ people who are incompetent. I called them and wrote to them asking for my money back, but they offered to give me back 1/2 of what I paid, which I do not find acceptable. Since I had to hire another company to fix what they could not, I believe I should have received a prompt refund. I would absolutely not use them again, or recommend them to anyone.

On a Saturday a representative of the company examined our AC, and determined that the compressor was no longer functional. On Monday installers performed the work, but when the unit was started up, only a fraction of air came from the vents. They stated the blower motor was not working and they replaced it. Then after starting the unit there was still no change in the air coming from the vents. Tuesday the representative who gave me the original estimate stated that the problem was in the coil installation. He used tape to attach the coil to the furnace. Still no change in the air from the vents. On Wednesday another technician came and determined the fan motor was not the proper horsepower and would install it on Thursday. I came home from work and waited 2 additional hours for the tech who never showed up. A week later I called another company, who determined the blower motor installation was faulty. They reversed the wiring and the AC worked.
