They do decent work, but they have a couple problems that drag this company down. One problem is the arborist, who comes off as arrogant, condescending, and borderline rude. He seems impatient with questions and sometimes doesn't let you finish a question without interrupting and answering in a brusque manner. After the work was done, I called to inquire about cutting the tree limbs back a little further. Instead of reacting in a manner that would lead me to believe he wanted to work together and make the customer happy, he said he could drive over and see if the work meets his satisfaction. I asked if he was concerned about his customer's satisfaction. He brusquely replied that he could send the workers over and butcher my tree if that's what I wanted. Yeah...nice. The other problem is that they're also slow about getting to the work. They give you an estimate quickly, but then you have to mail it back, then they don't call you, so you call them and leave a message, then they take a few days to call back, etc. Once I didn't get a call back so I had to call again. I wanted to get the work completed before I was having some yard work done and I was told they could do the work "pretty quick" once the deal is signed and received. Well, it was 10 days, so be aware of their definition of "pretty quick." On the positive side, the work was well done. My wife was home when the workers arrived and she said they friendly and polite.

The company was responsive to my initial inquiry and sent someone to the house within a few days to give us an estimate for the work. They sent a crew out a week after I signed a contract and did a great job removing the tree and cleaning up the area after they were done.

It all went very well. The crew directed by Chris did an excellent job pruning a tall willow oak tree that is near my house. They removed limbs and branches that I chose that might have scraped my  house in windy weather. This is the fourth time, typically 2 years apart, that this company has pruned this tree. Once again, the tree looks good again. The crews are always very skilled, prepared and very friendly; very willing to do what I request and to provide guidance when I request it. For this interactive work I pay the hourly rate.

My impression is that this company has some good arborists and trimmers. Unfortunately, in my case, they communicated poorly and they BUTCHERED A BELOVED CREPE MYRTLE.

I hired them to trim a number of trees: Leyland Cyprus, Tulip Poplar, Silver Maple, and a Crepe Myrtles. On the latter, Bryan, the arborist, first proposed to me that they cut off all branches below 8 feet tall. When I explained that thought was too high, he changed it to 6 feet. Unfortunately for me Bryan failed to fill out the work order properly and - because their Arborist is apparently not on site at the time of the work - his trimmers cut to 8 feet. Well, it actually would not have been so bad if they'd cut to only 8 feet. In some cases they cut to well more than 10 feet. Bryan showed me how much my tree grows per year, and I figure IT WILL TAKE AT LEAST 6 YEARS FOR MY TREE TO RECOVER TO ITS FORMER HEIGHT. Yep, I'll likely be looking at their damage for more than a half-decade.

They also failed to set up a safety zone when trimming a 70 year-old silver maple, and large pieces of timber came crashing down from high in the tree without so much as an orange cone between them and the public sidewalk. That is truly irresponsible.

Bryan and the owner took responsibility for butchering my 8 year-old crepe myrtle and wiped out my bill. Hat's off to them for not making excuses and just owning their mistake. It's unusual for a company to do that.

That was the right thing to do, but I still have to recommend strongly against hiring Northern Virginia Tree Experts. I just think what they did was really amateur-hour.

Overall a good job.  We liked that a trained arborist determined the course of action for our situation.  Trees appear to have never been touched, prior to our buying the home this summer.
We are new to the area, and it appears the price for service is rather on the high side, although we are pleased with the results.
You have to make sure to ask for your 10% Angie's List discount, and then monitor it.  The estimate we received was for our entire job, which was done in 4 pieces (3 already done; a 4th in the spring).  We assumed we would receive the 10% discount on all phases of service, however, it only applied to the first service provided.  A nice discount, for sure, but disappointing.

I had a large and overgrown Pear tree in my front yard that looked like a deflated, lopsided mushroom. I was afraid that a good wind would bring down limbs. While I wanted to keep it,  I thought that I might have to have it cut down. A neighbor recommended NVTE because of the fine job they did on their Pear tree. I contacted the company after receiving three bids. NVTE sent Antonio and Jose. They did an outstanding job! With the patience and skill of a sculptor,  Antonio carefully pruned and shaped the canopy of the tree so that it now looks like a normal, attractive tree. They then did a great job picking up limbs and tree debris and left the front yard spotless. I would use this company again. Their price was very competitive and they arrived for the job when they send they would. I would highly recommend them.

There's a reason tree work is expensive.  It's hard and dangerous work.  My children and I watched the tree removal all day long from various safe vantage points.  The crew chief had asked us not to be on the top floor because he was worried about possible danger to remove the very large tree with a minimum of damage.  (We did have one broken storm window, but they were very good about deducting the cost of replacement and labor from our bill.)  They left the wood for us at our request, but they are also very good at clean-up and haul away.  (We've used that service before.)  This is our regular tree company, and we appreciate the work they do.

This was the third successful contract with this company, and our third review. A friendly, informative arborist from the company came to our house within a few days of our call to examine our 30 foot high pear tree and our 40 foot high willow oak. He explained why we were having problems with our pear tree, and he gave us an estimate to remove the tree. He also gave us an estimate to prune our willow oak. We accepted his proposal and he was able to schedule all the work on the day before the installation of a new tree to replace the pear. On the scheduled day, a technical crew arrived on time and carefully, efficiently removed the tall pear tree, leaving behind a low stump. Then they climbed the large willow oak tree and quickly, selectively pruned the branches that we had chosen. Finally, they cleaned up after their work. Everything that this company did, from estimate to clean up, was done professionally with no drama.

We had a large (30") diameter oak tree several stories tall. I was concerned with the recent winds and rains and had the tree checked by my normal arborist. The tree was split from the base and in danger of splitting. My arborist quoted $4500 to remove the tree. I got a second quote of $7000. Both quoted 2 days. I called Northern VA Tree service and they quoted $2400, which included cutting the tree into firewood size logs.  They arrived with 3 men and had the job done in just over 1/2 day.  I have a highly landscaped property and they were very considerate of the other plants and shrubs - even dug up some smaller shrubs to avoid trampling on them (then replanted them afterward.)

Prompt professional service. Trees were trimmed without sacrificing privacy and didn't look stripped. Even went outside property line to remove heavy limbs that stretched over our fence and pool. They did exactly what they said they would do - no surprise fees. Will definitely use them again. Saved our trees and probably our roof and fence too!

While talking to another neighbor, I learned that she was having some dead and hanging  branches taken down from her trees by Northern Virginia Tree Experts.  I called and the estimator came out the next day.  They offered to give me a special price if I had it done on the same day as my neighbor.  They were fast, efficient, professional, and careful.  They also gave me a 10 percent senior discount.  I would definitely call them the next time I need some tree work.  They removed all debris,  shredded it, and  and offered me the shredded wood mulch if I wanted it.

The work went very well.  The crew appeared at the appointed day and hour.  They worked efficiently all day and did their work without damaging anything else.  The pruning removed quite a lot of weight from the weeping cherry while preserving its shape and its beauty.

We contacted Northren Virginia Tree Experts to receive a quote for the pruning of our ornamental plum tree in front of our townhouse.  The tree had become too large to tree with our pole cutter. Due to an ice storm the previous winter, many of its branches were bent or bowed and we wanted to reduce the risk of loosing any large branches this winter.
Northern VA Tree Experts sent out an arborist within 3 days of contacting them to give us a quote.  The original quote was compettitve with the others we received, and they were offering an Angie's List discount at the time which made it less than their competitors.  They completed the pruning while we were at work, so I can't comment much about the process, but the yard was very clean and the tree was thinned and pruned when we arrived home that evening.
They were prompt, professional, clean and competitively priced; and the tree looks great. We would certainly use them again.

These folks are great!   I used them before last year and I was happy with them.
I called them again to trimming two mature trees in my backyard.   They gave me a written estimate on the same day that I called and came out to do a nice job in 4 business days.   Kudos.

I called to get a quote over the phone. The man I talked to was somewhat brusk. I felt like he was too busy or too smart to answer my questions and I was bothering him. Normally I would have moved on to another company immediately, but this was a small job where I didn't feel like calling around. Nevertheless, we had them top a tree in our back yard. The work was done during the day when we weren't home. Everything was satisfactory and they cleaned up well.
