I am a military member & I just want to notify other military personel of my experience.
they showed up. They didn't. They left a note saying we were here, you
weren't call this number to reschedule. On January 6th I scheduled
January 7th because they couldn't do it same day. THEY DIDN'T SHOW UP AT
ALL AGAIN. I finally get them out on January 8th and the guy knows
nothing about my thermostat (a nest.) I try to talk to him and he just
ignores me and installs the old thermostat without doing any wiring
checks (I was having a voltage problem with the nest.)
I really can't recommend a business less, which is a shame because 6 months
before I met one of their staff and he was prompt, nice and on time. Oh
well. Don't use this service, it's not worth your time.
Here were the excuses:
1. Emergency gas leak at another customer's home
2. Technician had to goto emergency room.
3. No call "Were sorry"
4. Part was not in-No call-"were sorry."
All to get a new thermostat installed that was under warranty.
Hands down the WORST service I have experienced......
We had 4 different quotes with varying prices for basically same configuration.
A key consideration for us was solving / alleviating the issue of heating and cooling distribution between the two levels with one outdoor unit. Not to get too technical this can be achieved by better airflow and multistage technologies that are offered for certain new models but not others. Our previous system was a 3.5 tons and all quotes were based on an upgrade to a 4 ton system, since 3.5 tons is not part of Trane line.
We were leaning towards one of the offers when And, the manger and owner of Milies offered to come even though we told him we are pretty sure we have already found another provider. It is important to note that all of the quotes were based on a physical visit at our house to allow for adequate sizing. However none of the others actually calculated the adequate size of the new system. They all looked at the original system that was 3.5 tons, and since there is not an equal one they all suggested to go with the next size up I.e. 4 tons. Andy was the only one that actually calculated the needed system for our house by volume, and was very confidant in suggesting the 3 Tons system would be sufficient. And to address our uneven cooling/heating of the two levels he suggested the most advanced system available by Trane. This resulted in the most efficient system for the lowest price! We were a bit hesitant since it sounded almost too good to be true, but Andy was very confidant, and assured us the system is more than sufficient for our house based on his calculations and experience.
We eventually overcame our concern and opted to trust Andy, who truly stood out compared to the previous technicians who gave us proposals. 9 months later following a very hot summer and several cold spells we are extremely happy with our decision.
The installation was very smooth, right on time, clean and decent technicians and very responsive service.
The less than perfect score was just about registering us with Trane and following up with them, but it is quite possibly the manufacturer's fault, and at any event is not even close to be a real issue.
As part of the offer we are now looking for a 10 years complete guarantee on work, annual service, and materials. A great system, piece of mind, and a smooth process - can't think of a better way to end such a major project. Way to go Andy!
Oh, and as an added bonus we got the membership on Angie's list free for a year so we can share this experience with you.
My only (quasi) criticism would be when I called for the A/C inspection around May or June they told me they couldn't do Saturdays because it was the busy season and they needed to keep Saturdays open for major jobs. From a business perspective I completely understand, but from a customer perspective it was rather inconvenient, which is why we put off getting our "pre-summer" A/C inspection in August!
That being said I would still recommend Millie's and will likely use them again.
technician within a few hours. He was professional and efficient. He
diagnosed the problem and we spent some time discussing all of our options and
the associated costs. There was never any sales pressure to opt for the
more expensive solution.
Based on the extent of repairs needed, we ultimately decided
to replace our unit. Millies scheduled us for service the next morning. In the
interim, they delivered and installed several portable ac units so that we
could cool our bedrooms. This extra touch was much appreciated.
Millies arrived the next morning and completed their work
efficiently. They cleared away all evidence of work, leaving no debris
behind. Several employees were on our property throughout the morning and
everyone conducted themselves in a professional manner.
We will definitely contact them again.
BRIAN: The night our old unit croaked, we called Millie's and spoke with a friendly receptionist. We received a prompt call in the morning from Brian who arranged for the new install, and in the meantime, to keep us cool he delivered and setup a portable A/C unit. He was punctual, very friendly and spent time with me as I showed him all of my concerns regarding the installation to pass onto the install crew. He also went into our crawlspace to take photos of ductwork, which I didn't expect him to do (it's a dirty crawlspace, after all!) but I was very pleased with his eagerness and willingness.
JACK and MIKE: They arrived right on time to do the new install. They didn't just replace the unit but did extra work to solve the other problems (space constraints and drainage issues). Jack did an incredible job installing the furnace into a very tight space, went into the crawlspace to fix unnecessary duct work, and made a more accessible stack pipe for drainage. I felt he went above and beyond which I am grateful. Mike did a great job with our A/C unit and set it on "snow legs" to address a flooding issue we often have after heavy rains. He also walked me through the Nest thermostat (which is awesome). Both Jack and Mike were very friendly, smart and professional. I felt at ease with them in my home doing the work. They worked hard and they were efficient.
If there's one thing I HAD to critique (and I feel bad about it since I think their apprentice did this), it'd be the sealing "paint" that was applied to seal cracks between pieces of the ductwork. I know it's not supposed to be a work of fine art, but the sealant appeared to be applied in globs in places and could potentially look messy to someone who didn't know what they were looking at. It does its job, though (keeps air from leaking out)--and that's what counts! Also, the apprentice (I didn't get his name!) was very polite and did a lot of good work on the A/C install, and he also cleaned up the work space with care.
Bottom line: Andy made promises that his team delivered. Smart, friendly, and punctual--I am very pleased with Millie's. The A/C unit is near silent, the furnace (which is located in a closet in our kitchen) is also quiet and thanks to Jack's work we now have more room in there, and I now no longer have to worry about flooding around the A/C unit outside (thanks, Mike!) or the condensate drain line flooding our kitchen (thanks, Jack!).
It's summer and the A/C works wonderfully so far. I'll update the review should anything change or if we run into any snags in the winter, but so far my time with Millie's has been the most care-free experience I've had. I recommend them 100%.
