I am posting this review in order to give credit where credit is due. I don't blame Long Fence for the failure of the posts; the company doesn't do the pressure treatment;, it merely buys the pre-treated lumber from a treatment plant. So any contractor could have purchased the bum posts. What impresses me, however, is that Long Fence stood surety for the work it performed six-and-a-half years earlier. I hope and trust that I shan't need to replace this (semi-)new fence soon, but if I do need fencing done again one day, I know who'll be the first contractor I call.
We asked for a fence and they put up a fence. Nothing stands out. The fence has been sturdy since they put it up.
Well, 3 months later (while I was out of town for work) a scheduler calls me and says they were going to start work on the deck the following morning. Surprise! I should have followed up with them, hounded them, and really kept on top of them. The workers did a decent job on the deck. Unsure if they cemented the footers or not. Guess I will know this spring when the ground thaws. Since it was installed so late in the season, I've run out of time to put on sealant unless we have an abnormally warm & dry winter day.
Now about the fence. They had concerns about the lines painted for the utilities. Then they had concerns that the utilities were too close. The scheduler was going to call me back a few weeks ago after a supervisor inspected my property again. Now that it snowed, she called and asked if she could begin. I told her since it's been 4 months since I thought the fence was going to be in, there would be no way I could apply sealant, to put a hold on the fence job. I may cancel, because when you roll in the problems with financing the project, this has been a fiasco.
Financing. Great, 18 month interest free financing! Yeah, if Long could get things straight. Their finance paperwork first only included part of the job (only the deck, not the fence). Then, I resent new documents. Apparently they forgot I sent them a new charge slip. After two weeks, they called to collect the financed portion (close to $2k) yet again. We'll see if they "close out December" before the end of this month or if they call back again.
Recommend that you keep track of every conversation you have with these people including name, date & time, direction given, agreements made, and any other information you think important. For my fence and deck, I have dealt with at least 7 people from the company so far. There is sales, scheduler, finance specialists, crew lead (deck), team lead (deck), corporate finance manager, office finance manager. None of them seem to talk to each other or keep a real-time customer care system. Keep your ducks in a row and keep on top of these people!
Fast forward to the installers getting to my house. They asked to use my electricity. I know this seems small but for me, I was headed to a baseball game with three kids. I didn't have the time to sit around and wait for them. So they agreed to come back the next day to finish the job, again I couldn't be home but I agreed. I thought someone would call me the next week to ask me how I liked the job. That did not happen. A week later I get a bill in the mail for the last two installment payments. No one bothered to ask me or come by the house to inspect the fence.
I had to call them to make the payment and ask for someone to come by and inspect the fence because I had issues with it. They installed the door without lining it up, and one of the boards is already warping. Fast forward again and I finally get a call. I'm at work and the Long Fence representative just expects for me to be home so he can have a look. Long story short, I end up emailing the pictures to him. He tells me that is the way the fence is suppose to be. I have to explain to him that the old fence did not have a crooked door. He told me that he will have Steve the original rep come back to take a look.
It has been about two months now, and the issues that I have with the fence have still not been resolved. I am extremely disappointed as I believed that such a large company would have a better customer service. It is just common courtesy that after a job has been finished a rep should inspect the work and fix the problems. Long Fence did not such thing. They just take your money and forget about you...or continue to have telemarkers call and harass you for additional services. To say the least, I do not recommend them at all and I will never use them again.
After finishing the work, I thought I might get a call from someone saying the work was complete what do I think?. I didn't get that...what I got was a bill in the mail for the other two payments that were due. It took me calling them and informing that I had an issue with the fence. They transfered me to a representative who took my name and explained that someone would be in touch to set up an appoitment to take a look issues regarding the construction of the fence. Well, it's been about four days and I still haven't heard from anyone. It would be nice to talk to someone and show them that the fence is warping ALREADY and that the door was put on crooked.
