DO NOT - UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE - DO BUSINESS WITH THIS INDIVIDUAL - JEFF JOEHL - OR HIS COMPANY - HOME SAVINGS OF AMERICA!!! I am not overreacting, and really am a very reasonable person (too reasonable if you ask my wife). Details are below. I am pursuing this company with the Better Business Bureau and have serious concerns as to whether they are an identity theft scam. See details below for more info. I may ask Angie's list to also intervene. Details: I attempted to refinance through HSOA ? beg. in late Sept. Our rate lock was dated 10/13/10 and we were told there would be no problem given our excellent qualifications. On 11/2 ? after several attempts to call HSOA, they got back to me saying the closing on 11/13 would push back - due to their not getting paperwork done. However, in that e-mail they assured me that they would extend the lock. I emphasized that completion of this by end of year was very important to me - and was assured there would be no problem. Later in Nov, Only after I called them, they explained the assigned processor had a personal problem, & the case had been re-assigned and my agent - Jeff Joehl - would personally oversee it. No word by Dec, so I called - to find out that an important part of the process (subordination of an equity loan) had not even been started by HSOA. My agent said he would take control and get it done and that lock would be extended. On 12/28, having not heard anything, I called my agent ? Mr Joehl- and he insisted that they had begun the subordination request. Later that day he sent me an e-mail confirming that HSOA had failed to get the work done, and explaining that they had lost the lock on the loan rate and that we would have to settle for a much less attractive rate. When we spoke this AM - after I had called Suntrust - we still had no action. I requested the following actions from HSOA 1) Reinstate the lock at the agreed rate, term, and points Failing this - and assuming HSOA would not be able to make this happen - I requested the following: 2) Return of all original applications, and submitted loan paperwork - including all statements, copies of identification, etc 3) Certification signed by an officer of the company that this paperwork was handled appropriately and that our privacy was and will continue to be guarded in accordance with industry standards. 4) Refund of any and all fees charged to date to the credit card to process paperwork, order appraisals, etc There was no response until 1/2/11 when I threatened to contact BBB. The manager - Kevin Gaffney responded that refund would happen and paperwork would be returned. No word about certification from an officer of the company. Today (1/18/11) - There was no refund, nor any paperwork delivered. After I contacted them again, Gaffney said he would have check fedex'd to me. Still no word about paperwork or company certification of proper privacy practices. I have engaged the Better Business Bureau to try to get my requests fulfilled and have filed a formal complaint. I am most of concerned that this is an identity theft scam and that these folks are just collecting highly sensitive personal information. I can not believe the poor quality of experience I had with this - and in the end missed a significant chance for refinancing my home back when rates were very good. I would not recommend any of Angie's List customers entrust their personal information to this individual (Jeff Joehl) or to his company HSOA.

They were professional and courteous in the way they explained the process to us. We believe we got the best rate possible at this time and we did not have to pay them. Everyone associated with this place was polite and accommodating. The person we worked with was very thorough.
