Constructure Inc.

Dealing with Constructure was a nightmare. We dealt with Harman, who as far as we know is the sole owner of the company. His estimate seemed reason reasonable so we hired him. Almost immediately he started finding "unexpected" things he would have to charge us extra for. He charged us $8000 alone for extra carpentry work. The work started to slow down drastically. Only one worker was on site. Some days nobody showed up. Harman was hardly ever there. The only time he showed up was when we dragged him there. My wife actually coordinated things with the different workers since Harman showed no interest in the project, except for getting paid. For example, my wife had to coordinate the kitchen work with the company we hired (recommended by Harman). My wife setup a meeting with the kitchen people, herself, and Harman to discuss the plumbing, electrical work etc that needed to be done in the kitchen before cabinets and appliances were installed. Harman did not show up. Subsequently, his people put the dishwasher drainage in the wrong place. We were furious. Harman never admits any fault in anything. He just tries to explain it away. Then, We had to pay to have the drain moved. Another example was the shower. The shower actually covered the window to the outside. We had to point this out to him. We then had to pay to have the window covered up. He even messed this up. He just put drywall there. He left the window open which caused got the drywall all wet when it got wet. We had to have this fixed at our expense by a different contractor. He did not bother to board up window openings when windows were being repaired. This was after we had installed expensive kitchen appliances. When we mentioned this to him, it took him three days to get someone out there to board up the windows. He didn't bother going there himself to do it. He never rolled up him sleeve to do any of the work. He just worked out of his office. There are too many mess ups to mention, but the biggest and scariest one was the gas pipes. He installed gas pipes that were too narrow and not to code. This was found by an inspector that the eventual buyers hired. This was very, very scary. He did send someone to get this fixed, but again he never showed up himself to supervise this serious issue. My wife had to be there to make sure it was done correctly. In all, the project took nine months to complete when he told us it would take 5 months. We had a very difficult time selling the house. Everyone commented how sloppy the finish on everything was. Our Realtor was embarrassed to show it. In the end we sold it for $100k less than what similar houses in the neighborhood were selling for. It took us 6 months to sell the house. This was during the hot DC housing market where good houses were selling in a matter of days. In all this was a very frustrating experience. I would definitely not recommend Constructure for any project.
