I called Commonweath Roofing because I’d been contacted by a number of roofing companies regarding hail damage to my roof and siding, but I was skeptical because there had not been a significant hail storm in our neighborhood. One company had already signed up several of our neighbors and had called to tell me that there was hail damage on our siding, however, so I was also concerned that I might be missing something. When Commonwealth’s “No BS” flyer arrived in the mail, their exposure of other companies’ dirty tricks and promise to be honest with us was just what I was looking for so I called, and Mike Bennett showed up exactly on the promised date and time. From the outset, I greatly enjoyed dealing with Mike. He was open and friendly, and proud of the fact that roofing is the only work he has ever done. He was also proud of the fact that Commonwealth is a local company that has been in the roofing business for decades. His free inspection of our home’s roof and siding was thorough and detailed. He took lots of pictures as he did it, and was happy to show those pictures to me. Bottom line, there was no hail damage on our roof or siding. Our aluminum siding is in great shape, and likely will not need replacement for many years, if ever. Our roof, already almost 25 years old, is also in great shape. Mike estimated that it would last for another 7-10 years – barring any hail storms! The fact that Mike was more interested in being honest with me than in trying to sell me a new $11,000 roof and/or $20,000 siding job (his estimates of the current prices to do those on our house) was very telling. Here is a company that values its reputation above the bottom line, and that’s exactly the sort of company I want to do business with.

Commonwealth Roofing did a great job! I signed a contract and had the installation done within a week. They did a quality job, cleaned everything up (I only found 2 nails in my yard!), and gave me the lowest quote of several vendors contacted.

We discovered a leak in our roof and called several contractors, hoping for a quick reply. One called back and wanted to replace our entire roof without even looking at it. Commonwealth took the time to inspect the roof and discovered only a few small problems that could be fixed for just $750. We were very impressed with Commonwealth's honesty and the quick repairs they were able to make for us. The hurricane blew through after the repairs were made, and . . . no leaks at all! Thank you, Commonwealth.

Mike is a consummate professional. His work ethic and commitment to the job helped relieve a tense situation for our family. He showed up on Sunday afternoon and was able to fix the problem immediately. I was very impressed and would recommended his company to anyone.

The came out quickly and sat down with us to explain exactly what was wrong with our roof (w/pictures). They walked us through the different options in either repair or replacement. We decided to replace our roof. Workers came out quickly and finished our roof in one day. Looks perfect. Highly recommend to anyone that needs a repair or roof replacement. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable on the whole process.

Overall good experience. They ripped the cedar off and replaced with asphault in 1 day, came back to finish up caulking and flashing for a couple hours the next day. Cleaned up reasonably well. Overall good experience.

Mike was very helpful and professional. The price was much lower than another estimate we received. The workman we so hardworking. They started at 7:00am and were still working at 7:30 that evening. They would have continued if it hadn't gotten dark. They had just a little left to do and came back the next morning to finish up. They also did a great job cleaning up. I highly recommend this company.

Fantastic! Recommend highly! Mike was the only estimator to go up on our roof (He climbed our very steep roof like a mountain goat.) and give us an honest opinion. His integrity and knowledge are exceptional.

Outstanding service.  I had Commonwealth install new 6" gutters on my house.  The entire team was very professional keeping me informed at each step.  They were so fast and neat they installed the gutters when I was at work and I didn't even notice for a few days.  Their service is outstanding and their prices very fair.  Highly recommend.

In my category of would recommend to my best friend or relative.  Probably the best front-end experience I have had with a contractor.  I have had many excellent ones to compare to.  Did all as expected.  Mike knows his business!  He knows homeowners don't know much about roofs and chooses to enlighten rather than take advantage.  Not one regret.

Mike and his company are first class.  I really enjoyed working with him, and found him to be highly experienced and interested in ensuring that we had the roof we wanted.  He did not try and upsell us on anything, but took the time to explain things to us, and help reach the best outcome.  His employees were prompt, quick, and thorough, and the roofers returned the next day to make sure that they had not missed anything on the clean-up.  The gutter guys were equally good.  Mike was personally involved through-out, and even showed up the day before when they were delivering the roofing materials to make sure everything was properly setup for the operation.  I'd fully recommend him and his company to anyone looking for roofing work.

Called and scheduled appointment. They called to say they would be a little late. When they arrived after examining the roof they gave me an immediate estimate and they actually did the job that day.

We had a great experience with Commonwealth!   Mike the owner came up with a new gutter design to solve drainage problems we'd had for years.     Since we have a large roof area, Mike also recommended 6" gutters and downspouts.   And he made time in his busy schedule to get our gutters done right away.  
His crew, with Carlos in charge, did a fantastic job of installation.    They arrived on time and worked quickly and quietly.   Mike had told Carlos we had some special requests for the downspouts.   Carlos made sure of what we wanted, and then carried out every detail perfectly.    Now we have water being directed exactly as needed, including to two rain gardens.   There was no extra charge for this custom design.    Our new gutters are great!  
Another plus:   The crew left the property neat and clean.     Thanks, Mike, and thanks to your fantastic crew!

Luckily, the cap was still just barely attached to the pipe.  The cap was put in place and secured firmly with metal screws.  The fact that it was done before the storms came was a big relief to us.  As a means of showing us the repair was done, we were sent a picture via email of the pipe and its cap firmly in place that evening.  Great job and on short notice!  That's really excellent service.

This is the second job I've given to Commonwealth Roofing. Both times, I was impressed with their honesty and integrity. They explained our options and made firm recommendations that took into account our specific needs. Once, we were just trying to bring something up to an HOA code, and we did the minimum, but still a quality job. The second job was to replace our whole roof. We came back to Commonwealth and again, I felt that they explained our options well and offered us a quality product at a very reasonable price (better warranty but less expensive than others). They came when they said they would and worked quickly. (I think the whole job lasted 2 days...they worked until it was too dark to see.) They came to me when they encountered anything out of the ordinary, to make sure I agreed with the solution they were recommending. They were so easy to work with. I would definitely use them again. In fact, it's about time I address our gutters!

In the DC Metropolitan area there are many roofing companies vying for business. Some are large and have been around a long time and claim to be experts. Others are unknown quotients. But occasionally one finds someone very experienced, smart, honest, thorough and fair. Such was my experience with Mike Fontaine, the owner of Commonwealth Roofing and Siding. I had a roof with two layers of shingles totaling 60 years in age...obviously well past their life expectancy. Mike met with me, examined my roof carefully himself, explained everything he thought should be done, and listened to my many questions and answered them politely and completely. He said the job could be done "next week" and in one day. With winter fast approaching, I was thrilled to hear it could be done so soon. He was good to his word and my house was re-roofed the following week and in one day! His company also installed new gutters with the leaf relief system. Watching his crew work was like listening to a finely tuned orchestra...the work flowed smoothly and steadily. He has a great crew! His gutter people are also excellent. My house looks gorgeous with the new roof and I feel secure knowing it is ready for winter and other weathers. I am a VERY SATISFIED customer and I highly recommend Commonwealth Roofing and Siding to anyone who needs any roof work done
