We employed Viana Lawn Care for the past three years (2011-2013) for basic lawn mowing and trimming services for our 1/2 acre suburban property, with moderate numbers of beds, trees and including a small wilderness area in back. In addition, they did an annual Spring mulching of the beds, trimming of the bushes and an annual fall cleanup, leaf blowing and removal service. Their charges vary from other providers, less expensive for weekly mowing / edging, about the same for the spring and fall services, and so overall are generally in line or a bit less than other providers (total billing for mowing, spring and fall services averaged about $2174/year for us)
Weekly mowing and edging were professionally done, with decent results. W/hen weather was hot and dry, they would still mow, but complied with requests to skip weeks when the lawn would suffer.
They have done a good job in the past of leaf blowing and removal and spring mulching.
Communications are a problem... they answer the phone, but respond sporadically at best to telephone requests to vary their services. The telephone is answered sometimes, but calls on the answering machine are often not returned, and promises for contact by the owner are sometimes not followed through. They do not respond to emails, although apparently they are read. When requests are made via telephone, or via talks with crew foremen and the owner, sometimes they comply, and sometimes the request is either not understood or ignored. However, they bill very promptly and sometimes the monthly bill is received before all monthly work is complete, with a short suspense date for payment. All work was done by the time the check was cashed.
This year, they did comply with a request to apply pre-emergent herbicide, and raised their price by $150, unannounced. They ignored a request to storm-damaged branches from a tree, and they trimmed several bushes so severely that the shrubbery will probably not recover.
Overall, their crews do acceptable work at acceptable prices, but the effort required to manage their "standard" work package to suit our individual needs is difficult, and only randomly effective.
