I hired this contractor to build a second story addition on my home. He abandoned my project after being paid 90% of the money on the job but only completing 65% of the expense of the work. I have taken a case out against him with DPOR. It is under investigation. He said he had a roofing crew, siding crew, drywall crew, etc. The job was suppose to take 6 months. In reality, he had only one worker on my job site 85% or more of the time. His work was sloppy and I had to continually point out things that needed to be fixed.  He did not secure my home while working. I would continually come home and the doors would be wide open for anyone to enter.   My downstairs family room flooded during a rain storm because he did not secure tarps correctly to make the water drain off. In fact, they were positioned to pool the water in the middle. The family room ceiling and insullation had to be replaced.  The walls had to be replaced in parts and patched in others,  Room had to be treated for mold and painted. The pergo flooring had to be replaced.  He did not fix this damage. He walked off the job instead.  After quitting, he showed up at my home when he thought I would be at work, to let himself into the house to retrieve his equipment.  I was home but on my way out.  I refused him entry.  He had no right to be in my home, unattended, after quitting the job.  I took my keys back and told him to schedule a time to come get his tools.  Instead, he called the police and told them I was trying to keep his equipment.  This experience taught me alot.  I thought if I hired a class A contractor that the job would be done in a professional manner.  This is when I joined Angies List in order to find my next contractor.
Response from Living Water Design & Build
"This lady is dishonest, verbally abusive and believes people are her slaves that she can denograte, yell at and verbally spit upon. Very vile, the worst customer ever. We stopped work due to the verbal abusive vile pschofrenic behavoir by her and her partner and her continued yelling and insistance for us to do things not stated on the contract. She and her partner need serious psychoatric help. The last draw for me was when she called at 8pm yelling and screaming over the phone about some dust she never saw but her seriously psychotic partner yelled and screamed at her about "dust" from cutting two pieces of drywall. The area was swept before we left as always. This is a construction site. No dusting is stated in the contract. Her yelling and screaming was so bad that my wife heard her from from the liiving room (I was in the kitchen). My wife then grabbed the phone and told her she does not talk to anybody like that! Nobody deserves to be yelled and screamed at. Basic kindness, politeness, self control, and maturity level are all completely absent from this pair of individuals. Worse yet my little girl heard her yelling over the phone and started cry. For what? over dust from two pieces of drywall. No money is worth that. None."

I chose this company mainly because they were responsive and willing to work with us on price. Once we started on the project, LWD&B was mostly reliable arriving at the time that they were expected and working throughout the day. The company's owner does most of the work himself and he is very knowledgeable about a lot of issues that were unexpected, such as electrical issues, lose wires and the like. Since this was our first remodel project, we found him to be a reliable source of information and he always took the time to explain or to provide us a couple of options. The basement turned out great and we are pleased with the work. This contractor was the right one for us because the owner's work ethic and knowledge of the business.
