Flawless execution, from the first phone call to the completion of the project. David showed up on time and did a great job dismantling and reassembling a sofa in a basement where the doorway was a little too small to accommodate a regular move. I'd use him again in a heartbeat if needed.

David did an exceptional job and the whole experience went very smoothly. When the springs broke on my couch and the center of the couch caved in, I found David on Angie's list. All the reviews I read describing his work were very positive, and my experience was no different. On the initial call we discussed the problems with my couch, he gave me an estimate and then we set up an appointment. The cost of the work was within the estimate he gave over the phone. David showed up to the appointment timely. He confirmed that several springs were broken and needed replacing. He also recommended adding additional support under the center of the couch for reinforcement. He explained that the current supports were held together by staples which wasn't the most secure method of supporting the couch. David did a thorough job but it didn't take a long time to complete. He also took the time to explain what he was doing as he fixed my couch. I was very impressed with David's skill and the quality of the work performed. If I have any upholstery needs in the future, I'll be calling David.

My husband and I just moved into a new place, and were waiting for over 9 months for a couch that we got as a wedding present. It was scheduled to be delivered on my birthday, and we were both really upset when we had to spend the night trying to fit it into our apartment. No matter what way we turned it it wouldn't work. I called David, he came the next day, and dissassembled and reassembled our couch inside our apartment. It looks fantastic, and we couldn't be more thankful!

Dave did an awesome job! My husband and I moved into our new house and ordered new furniture-measured everything twice, except for the width of the staircase...you can see where this is going. Our sleeper sofa just would not fit up the stairs of our rowhouse in Old Town, Alexandria.
Not too many people are willing to take apart new couches and reassemble them, so we were thrilled to find Dave. We called him and told him our situation. He quoted a price and explained any extra charges that may occur depending on what happened day of. He came within a couple of days, completed the job quickly, cleaned up after he was done, and was very nice and professional. The couch looks great-you'd never know what he did to it!
We'll definitely see him again whenever we decide to move that couch somewhere else.

We got a fantastic deal on a sectional on craigslist. However, we picked it up without seeing it, and when we got it home, it did not properly fit. I called around what seemed like 100 different furniture repair shops in the area, and asked if they could shorten my sectional so it would fit in the home. Most didn't even answer my request, and those that did asked for over $1000, more than the cost of the sectional. The job required turning one of the two-seaters into a one-seater.
David was the only one crazy enough to take this job on. Over the phone, he quoted me $350-$500 for the job. I tried to bring the estimate down, but David stuck by his estimate, explaining that when he opened the sectional, it might turn out to be tougher than he expected and he simply could not put a ceiling on his estimate. After trying hard to find someone else even close to David's estimate, I hired him. David was reluctant to take the job, but finally caved in. He agreed to come by on a Friday at 8:30am.
David was on time and ready to go. He opened the sofa with ease and even showed me what he was doing every step of the way. The job was not easy. He had to remove all the metal studs, remove the fabric, cut the wood and springs, re-use the wood to shorten the sectional, and then reupholster the sofa and make it look like this was the way it was made. Amazingly, David got the job done. The sofa looks fabulous and I couldn't have been happier.
The upside? When he finished, I asked him how much I owed him and he asked me for simply $350 (the bottom of his estimate). He worked from 8:30am until almost 1pm, and I couldn't be happier with the results.

He did a great job, the springs seem to be holding up well. He had suggested changing all the clips that held the springs, but once he saw the sofa, he was honest about telling me there was no need to remove all the clip and fixed just the three that had come out for the agreed rate. I'd hire him again.

He was very reasonable, showed up on time and was able to fix the issue that no one else could fix. Im not 100% sure on the price as well.

The overall experience was outstanding. I can't recommend Dave enough. Punctual, friendly, reasonably priced and superb at his job - I would hire Dave again in a heartbeat. We recently had our entire basement refinished after returning home from overseas. Our sectional, an off-white, monster of a couch was something we were always worried about - i.e. fitting down the stairs - in comes David Stiverson!
In just a litte over one hour, Dave had the entire base of the sectional completely taken apart - even removing one of the arms (but not before reinforcing it to ensure spring tension held). The entire time, Dave carried on a friendly and pleasant conversation with me as I watched in amazement at both his skill and speed.
I found Dave on angieslist - and this is exactly why I subscribe to the service - Great Job Angie's List - Superb Job Dave!!!!

David was responsive, prompt, and his work was of exceptional quality. David repaired my sagging leather sofa and reinforced it so that it was better than when i purchased it. I will definitely use him for any future repairs of this type.

Dave showed up on time and quickly disassembled our sofa to move it to our basement. The sofa was too large to fit down the narrow staircase -- but, Dave made it look easy! We saved lots of money by not having to buy a new sofa.

I was very pleased with David's repair to my home recliner so, when I bought a new large executive upholstered chair for my office that came unassembled, I called him again. As a senior citizen I am not able to handle such a heavy piece of furniture. David made an appointment quickly, arrived on time, assembled the chair and even took the boxes and packing to the office condo dumpster for me. I will call him again, if I have any furniture needs.

It could not have been more pleasant or seamless. I moved into the new home, and while I loved the sofa bed, it had no purpose on the ground floor. It was perfect for a home office on the second floor that could instantly become a guest room. Our movers found it impossible to take off of the ground floor and up the stairs. Then, we tried to carry it up when our stairwell banister was being replaced, and it was still impossible, because of the ceiling height. I had no idea what I was going to do. Then I heard about David from a local mom's group listserve and called him. He was here in less than a week, and completed the job start-to-finish in about 90 minutes. I was so amazed and so grateful. After that, he spent about 30 minutes on the phone with me discussing the Victorian sofa and love seat.

Scheduling with David was easy - simply called his number and we set a day. He gave me an estimate over the phone with an explanation of what might affect the price - basically the number of and quot;armsand quot; on the sofa that he might also need to take apart to get it down the stairs. He showed up on time and went straight to work. He took the time to assess the piece of furniture and carefully (but quickly) removed staples and fabric until the wood frame was exposed. He only cut the pieces he needed to in order to get the couch down the stairs. It was really interesting to watch, and David could keep up a conversation while he methodically went about his work.
The care he took putting the couch back together was evident. He reattached pieces with sturdy brackets and screws. Although it was a fairly quick process, he didn't cut any corners. The leather went back in place as it had been and you wouldn't know what had happened to the couch just by looking at it.
This service was completely worth it! I would recommend it (and David) to anyone who doesn't want to get rid of a piece of furniture because it won't fit down stairs or through a doorway. One comment though is that couch surgery is messy - sawdust and some wood fragments. Keep the vacuum handy.

I recently moved into a new apartment to discover that my large couch wouldn't fit through the stairs of the new buliding. The movers I had hired (who luckily aren't on here, or I would give them a terrible review) refused to even try to get the furniture through the door and just said that neither the couch or the loveseat were going to make it up the stairs. They put my couch and loveseat back in the truck and charged me to drive it back to my old apartment. I ended up calling Dave, who talked to me on the phone for a good 15 minutes about my situation. He seemed confident that based on my measurements, the loveseat would fit up just fine, and only the couch would need to be slightly disassembled.
He said he was available at 7 am the next morning (it was about 6:30 pm) to help out. He drove to my old apartment in Fairfax, loaded up the couch and the loveseat himself, and drove it all the way up I-66E traffic in the morning to Arlington. He then managed to get the loveseat into my apartment with NO trouble at all, using some good twisting and turning - so clearly my movers were just lazy. He had to take the back off my couch in order to get that up the stairs, but he did a great job with that. You cannot tell at all that the couch was ever taken apart and it appears to be just as sturdy as before.
So in total for picking up my furniture, moving it 15 miles, moving the loveseat up 3 flights of stairs into the apartment, and taking apart the couch he charged me ONLY $300. Dr. Sofa (supposed to be SO great) said they don't handle the actual moving of the couch, and that the loveseat and the couch together would be $600. Dave probably could have told me that the loveseat needed to be taken apart as well and charged me for that, but he was obviously a professional and didn't.
I was so happy with my experience. He's a fun, talkative guy as well, so the couple of hours it took in the morning passed by like a breeze. Absolutely A+. Not to mention, that couch is going to have to get back DOWN the stairs someday ... so he's assured himself of a repeat call!

We had ordered a beautiful leather reclining sofa through a furniture company. When it was delivered to our house, we found that it would not fit through several doorways. I searched for a long time before finding Mr. Stiverson. Evidently, this is a common problem in New York City and there are several businesses there that specialize in furniture disassembly/reassembly. However, in the D.C. area I believe that David Stiverson is the only person specializing in this type of work. Mr. Stiverson is friendly, very helpful and did a wonderful job! If your furniture can't fit into your home, THIS is the guy to call!
