Basic Organization provides professional organizing services to busy families, home based business owners and down-sizing seniors in the Northern Virginia and Washington DC Metro area. Basic Organization helps people gain the skills to get organized and live a more simplified life. Our professional organizing services provide you with ideas, information, structure and solutions to help you regain control of your most important space, your home. We have a team of professionals to offer our clients the best organizing experience possible. Janet has been organizing since 2005. She loves using her background as a space planner to challenge her clients to look at their space differently. She leads the team in large projects and works one-on-one with clients to help the process move quickly and comfortably. Janet is a member of the National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO) and is the Immediate Past President of the Washington DC chapter. She is a member of the Institute for Challenging Disorganization (ICD) were she is a Specialist in Chronic Disorganization. She is a member of the Association of Interior Design Professionals (AIDP). Perfect. With her help, we accomplished more in 4 hours than we had in 4 years previously, and in a way ghat we coukd maintain. Several months later, its still organized.

Amazing. I was left with neat, orderly and labeled closets and shelves. Items were arranged in ways I never would have thought of so I could use the space to maximum advantage. I have used them before when I needed my house packed up to be moved. And then unpacked and put away in record time. I continue to get excellent service from each and every person in Basic Organizations.

That is owned by Janet Schiesl. She is very professional. She has been working with me on our whole house. She is timely. She works really hard. She has great suggestions for both item and document storage and organization. She is very nonjudgmental which I think is huge with somebody for organization and storage. Her goal is to make sure that your stuff fits in your goals for your life. If in fact you have stuff and you have too many things for how you want to live, she will work with you to get a level of things and organization of things that suits your lifestyle. She has contacts within the community for donations, for other resources and other people to come in. She helps me at Christmas to put up Christmas decorations. It is now done in 4 hours versus 4 days. She comes with another person. And it is all put away in bins in about 4 hours too. She is very impressive. It is an hourly charge. Tomorrow she is coming in to help me with a special project. It is particulary helpful because I busted a disc in my back and I can still do a lot of work but my back starts hurting sooner. She is so helpful.

I was nervous about having my things packed (my first time) but Janet, the owner of Basic Organization, is very personable and professional, which reassured me. She came to my home and provided an estimate of time needed to do the job and we set a date. Her company (Basic Organization) was referred to me by the movers I had hired (My Truck Buddy) and it was a very good fit for my needs.
Janet and four staff members packed my house the day before my move and were very thorough and professional. They also stacked the boxes for the movers the next day, so it would streamline the move. The team was cohesive, good natured, and got the job done in the time agreed upon. I helped, but not as much as I thought I may have to.
I've already referred Basic Organization to my fiance for his upcoming move. Kudos to Basic Organization!

This is what I wrote to Janet the owner: I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you. I am quote pleased with the progress made at my home. After our first session I was incredibly happy and after yesterday I realy see the light at the end of the tunnel. It is empowering in a way I cannot put into words to get my home back under control again. It gives me peace and energy for other things." I had tried another organizer who took my money and ran. It went well from the very beginning. I had done some research on Angie's List, as well as other sites. As a result, Basic Organization was top on my list to call. Janet was professional and extremely responsive to my request for quote. She arrived promptly for the assessment, and walked me through how she could address the various types of projects, directly and without any judgment. Her proposal for reorganizing my garage was clear and extremely competitive, using an Angie's List coupon. Janet and her team arrived on time and with positive and helpful demeanors. Janet clearly hires the right people and has a successful system of achieving the goal in a positive and helpful way. They never made me feel badly about any of it, and I was the decision maker on what to keep. It was money so well spent. I plan to call Janet again for other projects. (Note that her team does not haul anything away. If you have items to donate, you will have all of them neatly stacked in one place for when you schedule a charity pick-up.)

Janet accessed the situation and said she though it would take 3 sessions so we didn't get too cross-eyed. Somehow she had it down to the minute. She was very professional, punctual, and low-key. We went through every last mound of papers and got things in much better shape.
She even recycled/sold some old books that I didn't need anymore and a check showed up in the mail for the books. I didn't expect that! She's great at rolling up her sleeves and keeping things fun and simple. She doesn't judge or tell you what to do. She just asks questions that help you make the decision where things should go.
I'd highly recommend Janet if you want someone to help you organize and prioritize... she'll help set up files as needed and suggest ways to stay ahead of the curve going forward. I know she helps some folks pay bills, downsize and other services. She's seen it all, so she doesn't give off any vibe like and quot;how could you let it get so bad...and quot; She just gets to work with the aim of making what seemed daunting or overwhelming a fairly smooth project.

I have only the very best things to say about Basic Organization! I recommend the company to everyone I happen to speak with regarding home organization -- and that's actually quite a number of people b/c EVERYONE seems to have organization issues! After we moved into our new (smaller than the previous one) home, our and quot;stuffand quot; was overwhelming to me. Our basement and garage were jampacked with boxes, furniture, clothes -- it goes on and on.... Janet and her team came in and sorted, trashed, labeled, organized, arranged and even listed and sold our unwanted stuff on Craigslist (HUGE help there!)! Janet's mind works in amazing ways as far as clutter -- she sees right through the junk and misc. items and gets it all organized. Prompt, resourceful, straightforward, easy to work with -- Janet gets an A+ on all fronts from our family (I sent her over to my husband's office, too!).Tthe organization she brought to our home is a pleasure and actually makes our life better! :)

As noted above, Janet provides a top notch service. She comes with a tool kit, contractor trash bags and a label maker. We decide what area of the house we are going to work on get to work. She makes suggestions, but lets me decide what is going to be thrown away, donated or kept. Items are separated and go into their newly organized spot, the trash or into the donation group. At the end of the session, Janet will take the items to a local charity and send the receipt to me. It is truly easy to keep my house organized with her help.

Janet and Debbie were prompt, professional and patient. We spent 5.5 hours going through the storage room I have been avoiding for 3 years. With nonjudgemental reassuring guidance, they helped me transform it from a chaotic nightmare into an organized usable space. Janet quickly responded to my estimate request and came out the next week. Her insights and kind demeanor were spot on. I merely showed her the areas that "irritated" me in my home, and she came up with very sensible and attainable suggestions. Her "organizer ears" led her to focus on what she felt, through my words, I needed the most help with. One month later Janet and her assistant Ashley came to clear out a loft area in our home in order to prepare it for painting. This included clearing out old office supplies, breaking down bookcases and even moving them, the books, and a computer desk out, and into our downstairs area. While Ashley unpacked and resituated the books and shelves, Janet and I got busy on a large linen closet project. Again, Janet gently suggested what to pitch and how to (space)-wisely store what was being kept. It made a huge difference in how that closet functions. Many old electronics, etc. were sorted for recycling which I never knew what to do with, as well as too many things that should have gone a long time ago. I was very impressed with how steadily these two ladies worked, literally non-stop for 4 hours. What they accomplished in those 4 hours would have taken me a month of Sundays! The only issue I had was that I wish Janet would have asked if there were other areas that I wanted to deal with. I assume she wanted to let the changes digest first??

I took pictures ahead of time and so she knew what to bring. I left her to do the organizing and it looked absolutely amazing when I got home. It was so beautifully organized, I cried. Having things cluttered and unorganized gives me anxiety. To have my pantry organized and me being able to find things again was a huge weight off my shoulders.
