The installation company goes by several names 973-405-6473). They did the installation as a flooring contractor for the home improvement store in Springfield, Virginia. I hauled all the materials to the house since the material has to acclimate to the house for 48 hours. The installer showed up on day one, left after an hour saying he couldn't install the flooring because the house's floor was too crooked. Second installer scheduled and showed up on day two, 2.5 hours late and brought his girlfriend with him (said he got lost). Second installer didn't have tools to remove floor, I had to loan him tools. He started work at 11:00 A.M. and I ran him off at 9:00 P.M. and he was only 1/3 done. He promised to show no later than 9:00 A.M. the next day. Second installer showed up at 10:30 the second day, with girl friend. Installer and girl friend used toilet as their ashtray. They were asked to leave at 2:00 P.M. because of poor work. Exchanged many, many calls with the installation company (in NJ), and the improvement store. The home improvement store inspected the 2/3 done floor, and called the installation company to send in a new installer, remove the flooring and install another new floor. The home improvement store supplied new materials and after 3 weeks I picked up material the new installer showed up, installed the floor and left. The floor was incorrectly installed (according to manufacturer based on photos I sent), and in one instance the installer actually nailed a piece of the laminate - voiding the warranty. The home improvement store stated they would make it right and ordered new materials. I picked them up about 3 weeks later, the installation company showed up as did the regional home improvement store representative. The regional home improvement store representative spent most of the day at my house. The regional home improvement store representative had to teach the "professional" installer how to install this particular type of floor. The home improvement store deserves some credit for working to make sure the customer (me) was satisfied. The home improvement store had to pay for the 2nd and 3rd shipments of flooring, and the 2nd and 3rd shipments of kickboard, and they made the installation company show up the 2nd and 3rd times. So a one day event took almost three months. I cannot recommend that anyone use the home improvement store s floor installation subcontractor. The grading I've given is primarily against the floor installation company. The home improvement store deserves credit for resolving the issue to my satisfaction, but that has to be weighed against the problem.
Description of Work: I contracted with a home improvement store to: 1) Remove old vinyl tile flooring. 2) Install approximately 300 square feet of "DuPont" Tuscan Stone Laminate flooring. 3) Install new kick board/mop board. This company was subcontracted by the home improvement store.
