I did not go with their recommendation for waterproofing the entire basement.  turns out that a deck flashing failure, not a basement foundation issue was the main problem.

They made a good first impression.  With the exception of one company, they were they cheapest.  They were in the Washingtonian as being one of the best basement companies.  The guy that came and gave me the estimate was very professional. The crew did a great job and were very thorough.  They also gave a lifetime warranty on their work.  They seem to be honest.  I would recommend them.  They showed me on a computer where my water was coming from and how they were going to fix it.  Since they've done the work, I haven't noticed any leaks.

We went back and forth a couple of times.  They kept changing directions.  They actually gave me a couple of quotes but the quotes were inconsistent with some of the printed materials that they gave me.  There was a warranty thing on there and it was talking about like water proofing the basement kind of a thing.  I was specifically getting a quote for a structural thing having pouring put under my house to stabilize the foundation.  They came initially with a lesser quote than the company that we went with but there were a couple of things that I had questioned them about.  So I went back to them.  Basically I wasn’t interested in having a bunch of contractors do the job.  I wanted somebody come in and do this thing, give me a price and knew what I was talking about.  They basically thought that the floor didn’t need to be dug up and I told them that my independent engineers reported that I gave them ahead of time that it needed to be done.  They tried to tell me that my independent engineers didn’t know what they were talking about.  My independent engineer gave me a report and he had nothing to gain because he wasn’t doing the work.  I wasn’t happy with the way this salesmen was trying to sell me this job.  It didn’t give me a warm and fuzzy feeling.  They seemed very knowledgeable initially.  They knew how their system worked.  They were pretty responsive.  I got calls right away but when I tried to get somebody to answer my questions, they didn’t respond and they didn’t answer my questions.  We will probably not use their services again in the future.

My parents liked everything and they were satisfied with the work.  I like that he was available to explain things about the project and that his written estimates were really good.

My floor had been sagging noticeably in my kitchen for years. I had decided to redo the flooring and needed it level to do so. I spoke to a JES rep at a home show and they talked about their systems to do this. I had a rep out to look at things and do some measurements - the floor was out nearly 2 inches along a fairly localized area and he recommended a 16foot supplemental support beam. The crew showed up to do the work on time, explained exactly how they were going to do it and how they were going to deviate slightly from the original plan (for the better). Then they went to work - they even brought a generator so as not to use power from my home. They dug holes for the supports but upon double checking measurements found an error in the original measurements, discussed it with me, filled the holes and redug for concrete. The next day they were on time again, got to work quickly, and were ready to jack things up pretty soon after. I have plaster walls and an older home so when they began jacking there was all sorts of noises and creaking. I also got some pretty significant cracking whichg I expected having read up on the process and knowing the amount being moved wasn't trivial. Part way through the process the lead, Brian, crawled out of the crawlspace and came up to check on me and see if there was any serious damage. He admitted he wanted to see if I was getting angry or not as he judged from the noises that things were moving pretty good but I explained I expected som edamage and showed him my areas of concern. We moved some things and took some measurements and then they went back to work, a few more pops and creaks and the floor was level. He checked this both in my crawlspace and inside my home using lasers. He said the cracking I experienced was way worse than he expected but I wasn't very surprised or angry - the floor had been sagging for a long time. My floor is now perfectly level as judged from a 4ft level I own and their measurements. Things I expected to get screwed up weren't and nothing was damaged beyond repair. Brian explained that he saw some things with the main beam that he wanted to correct but felt I shoudl wait a few days to let things relax and settle. He was back bright and early this morning with his crew, got to work quickly, and just left after explaining that things went well. This job is now complete and while Brian did point out some things I should watch he wasn't pushy and was very helpful in helping me figure out work to be considered in the future and how it should probably be done for best effect. I'm happy with the work done. The workers were professional, polite, didn't make a mess, and explained what was being done, why, and told me why they thought things needed to be worked on to begin with (settling and some odd construction). They took the time to assess how things were progressing during the job and had warned me I might see some damage due to the nature of the work - and I did. They were concerned about my feelings, about my property, and were considerate while they worked. I appreciate the job well done and am happy to have gotten this issue taking care of as it's been nagging at me for a long time. I feel the job was done well and I appreciate that I wasn't treated like an idiot. Instead I received respect and good explanations about the issue they were working on. I'd use these guys again and am happy I used this company.

BEWARE! It pays to do your homework. We wish someone/anyone would have warned us. Prior to the purchase of our home, the previous home owners hired JES to install 7 Grip-Tite wall anchors to the basement wall to repair movement and counteract any future hydrostatic pressure exerted on the wall. The previous owner paid $6255.00. This work was completed with a LIFETIME TRANSFERABLE WARRANTY. We would not have otherwise purchased our home. In 2008, one year after our purchase of the home, the integrity of the basement wall began to fail. After contacting JES they came out to our home to see the damages. They came up with an immediate estimate of an additonal $4650.00 in 'repair-to-the-repair' costs--this, to a portion of our basement not even tied into the problem area. It would not even have corrected the problem from the original failure of wall integrity. We made numerous phone calls, emails and memos to get clarity & discuss proposed solution, to no avail. We spent several months doing this. We had to find another company who would do the repair work before the rains really came. Once done, we took JES to court for reimbursment. They paid for damages, as we settled in mediation. From the moment we made contact with JES, the entire experience was gruelling and avoidable. We are completely satisfied with the new and proper repairs. It was much more labor intense, as the new company had to not only repair, but undo and 'clean up' the shoddy work done by JES Construction. It is our strongest desire to warn others, so that they don't experience these same difficulties.

(03/15/2010) Impressed with initial contact with company. Main office followed up promptly to schedule the work. Will provide an updated report when job is complete UPDATE (04/27/2010) Called the company initially for basement waterproofing. Basement walls were only partially accessible at the time of inspection. The inspector was very thorough and took the time to answer all of our questions. In prepping for this project, we gutted the rest of the basement. We had them come back out to look since we saw a couple additional areas of concern with the walls. Again, they were very thorough and explained what they saw. This house was built in 1960 over a supposed copper mine from the 1800's. We had a lot of concern about what was under the house. The waterproofing crew arrived as scheduled and was very hard working. They protected the floor on the first story since there was no outside access to the basement. They were on site for approx. 7 hours the first 2 days and about 9 hours the last day. Our floor was thicker than normal according to the foreman. It seemed like they were under the gun the last day (they had another job to go to the next day). We feel they could have planned it a little better after the first day to prevent this. Overall though it was a professional job. The crew was courteous and clean. All we had left to clean after they were done was the dust, which we expected. It rained two inches the following weekend and so far, no problems.

They did a great job since it rained hard the entire time they were trying to do the work. As soon as they dug out the hole for the sump pump, it would refill before they could get the pump in. It was a dirty and wet job and they never complained or stopped working.

The overall results were satisfactory. The dehumidifier and booster pump were installed where specified, were connected correctly and neatly, and work fine. The dehumidifier is nosier than anticipated and the noise comes up through the floor into the living space. The noise can probably be reduced to an acceptable level by installing insulation in the floor joists in about a 100 square foot area centered on the position of the dehumidifier, but that work will need to be done separately. The sealing of the air vents was excellent. The end result of the clean up of dirt, dust and debris was satisfactory and the two man work crew did a good job. Things which should be considered in future similar jobs are: The crew did not bring respirators or overalls to deal with all the dust that was raised. The dry vacuum the crew bought was too tall to fit in the crawl space, so they ended up having to clean the entire space by hand. The crew did not have the equipment to create a negative pressure air flow in the crawl space which was then vented to outside. Without this negative pressure, some of the dust which was raised worked itself up into the living space of the house and required additional cleaning by the homeowner.

What should have been a job that took 3 visits over two weeks ended up taking months and 6 or 7 visits... plus they stood me up twice. The job was improperly sold (not enough piers to do the job). The workers installed all the piers they had and then determined that the number of piers I was sold were not enough to do the job. The floor was still inches away from level and had started cracking. The workers, who were not given any extra piers, had to spend a couple hours to go get another pier to try to complete the job. That pier didn't help much and they ended having to come back a few more times to try to finish the job. The guys who did the work were actually very nice and very professional. That is the only positive thing I can say about JES. After a couple of extra visits and a couple more extra piers I now have a floor that is hopefully supported and will not sink...only time will tell. It is better than it was before but clearly not what I was told it would be. My floor now has multiple cracks and is extremely wavy. Even worse, they actually had the audacity to ask me for more money for the extra piers!!! Against my better judgement I actually wasted more time and called and emailed JES numerous times asking them to fix the floor or refund some of the money I paid so I could find a company to complete the job. They never returned any of my calls and never responded to my emails. They are a very sad excuse for a company and I would strongly recommend going elsewhere.

I am single and I live in my home with my grandmother. The crew that came were late everyday. They were dirty, rude and very unprofessional. They didn't even try to clean up the mess and we had to get someone else to come and clean everything up. I was willing to pay the high price and now I wish I didn't. I called the company to complain and I was reassured that the matters would be addressed although that never happened. We don't plan on using them again and we will be reporting them to the BBB.

Excellent. Two other friends also had work done by them and are completely satisfied. Prices of other "water proofers" were more expensive and did less work and not guaranteed for life like JES Construction. They were always on time, did the work in less time than they thought, cleaned up their mess and explained the system in detail. We can now store anything we want in the basement without the fear of mildew, dampness, etc. They are the best and I highly recommend them.
