Joe arrived and looked at the issues - thought he would just give an estimate. Next thing I know, he's doing the work. We had gotten an estimate for the leak and pressure switch - and it was almost $2,400!!! I was getting a little worried - but Joe had it done in 3 hours and didn't have to "dig up the water line" like we were told would need to be done. He repaired the leak from inside the house and then found that we didn't need a pressure switch - we just needed the line cleaned out (there was sediment built up under the pressure switch valve).

Though the plumbers showed up at appointed time, after I showed them the basement, said they had parked down the street so, on my time, they then had to go move the truck up to my house.  He knew right then that they had not come equipped to do the job they were being hired to do but said nothing.  They could have left then and there.  I was asked to sign that they left their last job twenty minutes before coming to my house.  I called Stilwell's and said they had not informed me that I had to pay for them to come to my house from their last job and how would I know where they were coming from?  It was then forty minutes into my first hour and no work had been done.  They had to get their tools from the truck and then wait for one of them to go to the truck for an extension cord.  I did not know at that point that he was not going to be doing the work that I made the appointment for them to do.  He spoke with the person at Stilwell's after I did.  He already knew that he had not brought the right equipment because he then stated that they could have someone bring it, that the office was only five minutes away ( though they charge minimum of 15 minutes travel time), I was informed when I called to question.  I declined as I was not going to pay for them to wait for the right equipment and then start again to bill another hour to do the job I had hired them to do in the first place.  They fiddled around with the recording apparatus trying to figure out why it wasn't working which was not what I was paying for them to do.  They did nothing that I hired them to do and yet they sent me a bill for $290.00.  I now have to hire another plumbing company to do the same job that I hired them to do that they did not do.  I have not paid this bill and, if necessary, will report to the consumer protection agencies.   I had clearly explained more than once what I needed someone to come and do.  Not only did they not do the job but I had to travel more than one hour each way to meet with them.   I am shocked that they sent me a bill.

Please see my original request for service which clearly states what I wanted and did not get:  " A plumber referred me to you to have my waste lines traced with a camera and provide the direction and depth along the path."  I repeated same on calls.
UPDATE 10/14/2016 This provider is pretending they did not know what I requested to be done. There is clear evidence of the communication in the Angie's List Message Center. After this provider did not provide the service, I had to hire another plumber to do the same work that PW Stilwell did not. PW Stilwell Plumbing & Heating Inc missed a 3 Foot Crack. They did not bring the proper equipment to my appointment to do the work I asked of them and the equipment they did bring did not even work! I am now going to contact my local BBB and attorney general with some information I was given from Angie's List.
Response from P W Stilwell Plumbing & Heating Inc.

"She needs to pay the bill. That is who called in for the service, described what she wanted, authorized the work, agreed to the rates, and signed the completed work order. She wrote on the ticket she wanted the drain lines traced, but didn’t tell the plumber. Our company was contacted by her, not the member, to camera a sewer line in the wall. She thought she had a leak in the wall. She made no mention of any lines in the basement floor at the time of the call. She agreed to the $200 camera fee and the $90 per hour labor rate which included travel time one way in the first hour. Upon our arrival, our technician asked for a signature to authorize the work which stated he was there to camera a line in the wall. She signed that. She then became concerned with the hourly rate and wanted them to leave at 1 hour. She then signed the work order for the work that was done. Upon receiving the invoice, she sent it back w/ a note about her original request for work on Angie’s list. The review that was written is not a true account, we did not receive the work through Angie’s List, and quite frankly I feel that she is trying to use Angie’s List as leverage to get out of paying for something she agreed to. She is complaining about work she did not request us to do ahead of time, nor would have been able to do in the 1 hour she allowed our technician to stay. We are no psychic. Quite frankly, I feel that services that provide online reviews allow customers who want work for free to judge the contractor guilty until proven innocent and you give a forum for people who have no qualms about embellishing the facts a free reign with no basis for fact checking. The contractor looks bad when calling the customer out."

I was finishing a bathroom and needed 2 water lines run about 15 feet from the source (about 35 feet total line for hot and cold, and toilet).
I called this provider as a result of the reviews on Angie's list.
The estimator came out as scheduled on 7/30/15, looked over the job, and said he would call me .  When I hadn't heard anything by 8/5, I called the company.  Dispatcher said that they had been busy, and that estimator would get back to me within a few days.  It is now 8/16 -- and still no response.  If they didn't want to do the job, that's fine -- but a phone call would have been nice.  Their work may be acceptable (according to other reviews here), but their customer service is lacking.
I had no problem finding another local plumber who would return my calls, show up, and do 4 hours of excellent work at a fair price.

My home has a very narrow crawl space.  Before I moved to the house, a plumber had installed an acid neutralizer and connected it in such a way that only part of the house's water system was treated.  To make things right, someone had to crawl under the house (very tight space) and re-route a pipe.  The companies I called, had suggested certain "work-arounds" to avoid doing this, all of which had certain disadvantages for me.  Stilwell quoted me a price to do the job correctly, which involved a lot of work on their part, but the price was not much more than that given me by the other companies for the ''work-arounds".  I certainly got my money's worth and am happy (so far!) with the result.

N0,Bad. First they sent a couple of guys out with canister. They told me that is what I ordered. No I did not. We have been a customer of Stilwell for at least l5 years and I told them they should have checked our files before they came. Okay. they sent a couple of more guys with the right filter...When I got the bill from Stilwell they had charged me for both trips it took a while to straighten that out. I have not called Stilwell since and am now looking for another plumber.

Our ancient well jet pump stopped working. I called PW Stilwell on Tuesday morning, by Tuesday afternoon, they had come by the house to see the issue. By the end of the business day, I had a quote and an appt. for them to install a brand new submersible pump the very next morning. I work from home on that day, so was flexible with the time. They showed up early and took a couple hours less time than they anticipated. They were courteous, punctual, communicated well and we were very pleased. we had one small issue still after they left (unforseen circumstance, no one's fault) and they came right back out to fix it that evening. I really appreciated their promptness and I was told by a few other local people (plumbers, but ones that didn't fix wells) that they are a good, honest company and my friend who is a local contractor told me their price was fair, so we went with them and we are very happy we did. Thank you Hysel, Mike and Trey! You guys are awesome.

The 2 plumbers from PW Stilwell were always ontime. They did excellent work and were very courteous. And came in way under their original estimate. They were awesome. I couldn't be happier with the job they did and I would highly recommend these
guys to anyone looking for a good plumber.

I had a leak in my water line due to a tree root. After a visit, I received a phone estimate from Stilwell (Joe) for $1200, then I received a paper estimate for $1500 (worst case scenario - water line replacement all the way up to the house). During the estimate Joe explained he might need to cut the drywall behind the washing machine to replace the pipe. I said fine. I signed the contract.
Two weeks later, I came home from early shopping to find a tractor in my yard digging around the culprit tree at 9am (no prior notice). The three gentlemen doing the work asked me what they were supposed to be doing. Slightly uneasy (that they had to ask me), I explained there was a leak and we agreed that if they could fix it by the tree, great, if not, then they may have to replace the line all the way up to the house. I left the door unlocked for them and went to work.
An hour or so later, I got a call from Stilwell (Debbie) saying they found the leak (Yey! They wouldn't have to go all the way up to the house. They could just fix it by the tree.) Nope. When I got home that evening, NOT ONLY had my entire yard been dug up but there was an exposed pipe coming up out of my laundry room floor. The pipe makes a noise like a running toilet which is audible throughout the entire downstairs of my home.
I immediately sent Debbie a picture and said, and quot;I can not have an exposed pipe coming up out of my floor! Why did they come all the way up to the house? I thought they found the leak by the tree?and quot;
Over the next two weeks I received excuses like, and quot;It was cheaper this way. It was easier this way. We thought you wanted it this way.and quot; NEVER an explanation as to why they couldn't tie into the existing line and not touch the house at all. There was never anything wrong with the pipes in the house! I received very poor explanations, no resolutions and a bill for $1333.
I can't help wondering - what if I'd never come home that morning? What if I'd been out of town? I have a feeling that if I'd never left that door unlocked that 1) my leak would have been fixed at the tree, 2) my yard would look relatively normal, 3) there would NOT be a noisy, exposed pipe coming up out of my laundry room floor and 4) I would have a bill that was half as expensive.
Now I have to hire another plumber to come fix what they did - repair the damage done to the property and property value.
Obviously, I do not recommend this plumber.

This company was very responsive. The employee replaced the outdoor faucet which was damaged due to homeowners' improper winter treatment (the hose was not disconnected prior to winner shut off). Everything was done in a timely manner. Homeowners' one complaint was resolved adequately. Once work was completed, the plumber asked homeowner if faucet was OK as it was...without caulking or a means to make certain no movement of faucet/pipe with faucet use. Homeowner said OK but no plumbing experience. It was quickly discovered that the faucet/pipe had several inches of back and forth movement with each use of outdoor hose. This was unacceptable as should have automatically been made immobile once faucet was replaced. However, once the company was called to let them know the problem, they resolved the matter in a timely manner. Therefore, customer was satisfied. We would highly recommend because the company stood behind the work done. The homeowners' advice would to make certain job totally finished prior to accepting work.

We had three issues for them: poor water pressure to the upstairs master bath, problem with the quantity of hot water, and advice on potential on-demand hot water heater in the master bath. They addressed each one for us; repairing the electric hot water heater, evaluated water pressure from our well pump and equipment, and provided professional advise based upon their experience. Although these issues provided them an excellent opportunity to upsell us with additional expensive equipment, they conscientiously explained the issues and limitations as well as determined that our water filtration system was not working and the extremely hard water with the corrosive acid and minerals in the water contributed to the water heater element failure and with problems with cartridges in the bathroom faucets which they replaced at a very affordable price. We are working with them for our next job which will replace our filtration system with a filtration and conditioning system.

They were very professional and was obvious they knew what they were doing. Did an excellent job on fixing plumbing issues and cleaned up to where didn't really know they had been there. Would definitely recommend them to anyone who has issues with plumbing.
