"It is exciting to hear from satisfied clients. Thank your for sharing."
Would have preferred to have not submitted a review but Angie's List has been bugging me about this for over a year and I'm simply sick of seeing the nag over & over.
"I am sorry that your experience with Epling Landscaping through Angie's list was not as anticipated. Please contact us directly for services, should you be interested. Thank you."
Good firm. Responsive. But their market approach is somewhat flawed in that: a) one size fits all, b) you pay for activities, not results. So, for example, if I want weeds controlled -- I thought I would pay a fixed amount to have my weeds managed. Instead, I ended up paying for additional treatments for different types of weeds as my yard deteriorated.
Good news, Epling recently hired a specialist with deep knowledge in lawns and treatments. He cam to my house and was very knowledgeable.
"Tad Wolford is our Lawn Care Operations Manager of which you write. Tad has come to us with many years of experience and has been a wonderful addition to our staff."
Basically The order of events for planting and hardscaping was done in reverse, hence causing problems. The contract was signed in March I believe and the plants were planted in July, the middle of the summer heat. The creak stabilization was to be done first and only I portion was completed in July. I received an invoice for full payment prior after the trees were planted but before the creek stabilization was done, We paid only half the invoice.
They insisted that they creek was completed and I kept telling them they only did half of the creek. They later admitted that I was corrected after I pointed out to them that the contract clearly showed 2 separate areas of the creek along with 2 separate material lists, one for each area.
They then said they would schedule it in November when the ground would be frozen. That doesn't happen here until February-March. I inquired in late November about it and they informed me that their crews were gone for the winter. After numerous emails and no real response or follow up I sent the email below on June 6th. This finally got there attention. I sent it to everyone in the company that had ever sent me an email.
I haven't heard anything other than that you were going to stop by.
Things I need
Date of when the creek will be completed
Date of when the Crape myrtle will be replaced
Answer to the disease in the bushes on the right side of the house.
Fallen Rock in the lower portion of the creek fixed.
This has gone on way to long. We are now pushing 1 year for the contract on the
plantings and hard scape.
They came out the other day to fix the first creek area and told my wife that it wasn't done correctly the first time. They also stated that they will be out when the ground is dryer. This was their excuse last year.
Supposedly the Crape Myrtle is on order.

"Thanks, [member name removed]! We love to hear from our satisfied customers."
We went with Epling after using another local mowing service for a year and have been signing an annual contract with them for the past two years. They take care of everything outside of our home to include mowing 3 acres, edging, weed whacking, blowing, leaf removal, mulch, plants, weed pulling (by hand), and applicaiton of round up and insecticide as needed. They are very professional and take care of moving things the kids left out in the yard before mowing. The mowing is first rate and I feel like my lawn was just done by a professional stadium crew with the cross cut pattern! Management and staff all seem like family when they stop by or call to see how things are going. We have also used them to develop a landscaping plan that includes adding pavers to our existing patio that we will have them complete next summer.
I have no problems with the cost as they are cheaper than our last mowing service and some things are worth paying for! I feel like they are a bargain for what they do for us."Thank you for all your kind comments. We strive to make all our customers completely satisfied as we meet all of their landscaping needs."
Epling's pricing was a little higher than other quotes I received and unfortunately did not allow the flexibility for a la carte selection of services; otherwise, I may have chosen them to perform some of the work. However, I would certainly contact them in the future if the maintenance company I have chosen does not live up to expectations.
What I really appreciated in the end was the professionalism of the company. As a courtesy I called Epling's office to let them know I decided to go with another company. I had done this with another vendor and the salesman's response made it clear that he didn't care and didn't even appreciate the call. At Epling I spoke with Emily and she asked me for my feedback on why I selected another company. From her demeanor I could tell she was interested and appreciated my call. It's employees like this who make a company stand out.
"Thank you for your kind comments. We strive for excellent customer service in all our departments, and should we be able to be of service in the future, we would look forward to working with you."
"We thank you for your comments and wish you the best in your new home."
Though their work eventually is eventually acceptable, it has become difficult to get quotes, work schedules and accurate fulfillment of project tasks in a timely manner. Communications response is very slow and often late, many times initiated only after repeated inquiry.
of as taken since Mid March from first inquiry to finished work and is still open because of incomplete items with no date yet of final completion. The crew finally arrived on site with little knowledge of the tasks that were quoted to be done and no supervisor visited during the job work, requiring me to explain and supervise the work. The ground was not prepared prior to seeding, including failure to rough up bare clay surfaces or remove weeds before seeding. The crew did not know the areas to be worked for soil enhancement and seeding. The crew did not know the job included edging of garden beds. The crew did not know that a small area was to be regraded for surface water control.
Seeding work was finally completed as best as could be communicated. However, they then left site without ever doing the garden edging at all after it was discussed several times during the visit. We are now trying to arrange their return to complete edging and awaiting a schedule. The regrading effort was a total shoot from the hip approach.
I want to continue using Epling because I like the people there, but I find I can no longer recommend them to friends until I see an improvement in their project management. This is a good company that has slipped and I hope they can turn my opinion around soon. I want them to be a contractor who gives good results like they used to, not one that has very good reasons for declining results.
"Thank you for the feedback. We hope to work with you again in the future."
"Thank you for your feedback! We look forward to working with you in the future."
I am very satisfied with their service and work. They are top notch and Wayne Epling is very easy to work with. I would recommend them highly.
"Thank you for the positive feedback. We hope you enjoy your landscape and hardscape for many years. Please let us know if we can assist in the future."
"Thank you for the positive feedback and we look forward to our continued relationship."
The actual work performed was fine. My yard hasn't looked this good in a long time. I have also been told by a friend that she is paying less . . . so I may be switching if I receive a better quote in the spring from another company.
"Thank you for your feedback. Please let us know how we can assist you in the future."
"Member, We are happy that all issues were resolved and we look forward to our continued working relationship. Epling Landscaping"
