Joshua Swift and his team specialize in tree removal and pruning for Roanoke, Salem, and the New River Valley. Full day jobs can also be done at Smith Mountain Lake. Joshua is a Certified Arborist and would love a chance to look at your trees with you. He is highly skilled in using ropes to safely work in the most difficult areas. He and his team love a challenge and have safely done many jobs that other companies were not able to do. By using climbing and turf friendly equipment, Joshua can work in your yard with minimal impact on the surrounding landscape. The tree climbing is also fascinating to watch. My regular tree guy recommended Extreme Tree for removing an 80' locust in a tricky spot. Joshua responded promptly, gave great service, and completed the job quickly and for a fair price. I would definitely use them again.

Excellent in all regards. Joshua came promptly to give us an estimate. He walked the property taking detailed notes then gave us an itemized list (what would be taken down & removed or left in the woods, pruned, etc.). The written estimate priced each element individually so we could opt to do some or all as we wanted. At the time of the estimate he thought it would be mid-December before they could get to our job. However on 11/13 Joshua phone saying since an ice-storm was predicted they could come the next day. And they did. He brought two crews (one for the full day & one for half a day), two big chippers, and other log moving equipment. The big job was completed in a day (nine trees down and removed/chipped, three taken down and left in place, pruning (removing big grape vines from tall trees & some branches near the house) and cleanup of three areas. For the largest tree next to the driveway before starting they put down a grid of large, truck-tires to protect the asphalt. They also moved and put back some cement statues that were in harms way (without being asked). They do not (at least in our case) use any lift-buckets, opting instead for climbing. Wow, it was amazing to watch. These are true professionals who work with focus and efficiency and great attention to safety. They communicate with each other via headsets in their ear-protection. Joshua also mentioned they had just returned from several days of prof-ed training to maintain and/or certify as Certified Arborists. The whole crew was very personable and obviously enjoyed their work and fellow teammates. We opted to add taking down an additional big hardwood that was leaning at an angle which cost an additional $600. We thought that was well worth it since it could have brought down additional trees if it fell. They cleaned up all areas very well. We highly recommend them and will, no doubt, use their services again.

Great job by this company. Arrived as scheduled and removed 11 trees from our yard that had grown too big and close to the house. Dropped all the tress without damage to house or other trees and some were difficult. Crew was courteous and professional and used good safety procedures. Will hire them again if more trees need to be removed.

Wow. If Angie's List gave an A+ grade, Extreme Tree Co. would get it from me. From the start, Josh was very responsive and professional. The workers were all polite and efficient, and they cleaned everything up very well. They did exactly the work requested in a safe manner. Josh clearly knows trees...he noticed one dead maple that we'd not seen. He made recommendations on what to do to keep our remaining trees at their best. We have more work to be done, and we will definitely be calling them back. These guys are real tree pros, and unlike many, Josh is also an excellent business man.

The work went beautifully, and I was very pleased with everything Joshua and his team did. Joshua also identified that we had Emerald Ash Bore in our huge ash tree, and he set us up with a specialist out of Richmond who has made two visits, so far, to treat the tree. Joshua was prompt about returning my texts or phone calls, and the crew arrived when he said they would. I'm thrilled to have found Joshua and his team--he really knows what his is doing--and I can't imagine using anyone else at this point.

Josh and team were excellent in their work. It was obvious that Safety was a top concern. The team were very knowledgeable on how to take the trees down without affecting overhead lines or nearby buildings. Josh was very meticulous about his work and knew where each individual branch would fall. It was refreshing to watch. I would definitely hire them again as well as recommend them to anyone needing tree work.

Went great! Two of the pine trees were very close to the deck. No damage to deck. Clean up was remarkable. This is the 3rd time I'ved used Extreme Tree. I'll certainly use them again.

Joshua ,Adam ,John and the rest of the team could have not have done a more perfect job! It was a pleasure to watch these guys enjoy their work so much. Joshua was very responsive when I made initial contact with him. Everyone was efficient, punctual , productive and very polite. Everything went "extremely" well! Very responsive to phone calls/emails and promptly on time. Everyone was very professional, courteous and considerate. They went above and beyond my expectations for the service provided. They even laid boards down so their truck would not tear up the yard since it had snowed/rained the day before they came out. The cost was very reasonable. Would definitely hire again with no hesitation!

Josh and his team were great to work with. He came to do a tree inspection of our property, which has approx. 150 trees and helped us determine an affordable, long-term plan for tree care. He was booked several months out, but was able to bring a large crew on the day of service to complete felling of 3 large trees, and pruning of 1 large tree and complete debris removal in one day. Very courteous and professional.

I contacted Extreme Tree through their website and within a couple of days he had contacted me and come to give an estimate. Josh was extremely professional and knowledgeable. I obtained 3 different quotes and even though he was a little more I felt much better knowing a true licensed and insured professional would remove the tree hanging above my home. Once he and his team arrived I was amazed at the speed and efficiency Extreme Tree provided. After the first day he called to let me know he was unable to get it done in one day as he hoped but he thought he might have bent a downspout and he would (and did) replace when he returned. Overall I am extremely pleased at the work we had done, no question I would hire him again if I had the need. I will say I don't normally do reviews but I felt it was needed to let anyone looking for a truly professional and trustworthy tree care company.

Joshua came a couple days after I called to receive a quote. I was going to get several quotes because of the scope of this job, however when he gave me the quote I thought it was extremely fair and because I have used them in the past I accepted right away. He scheduled me for about three weeks later and confirmed a couple days before arriving with his crew. The guys worked so hard and were so conscientious about their work. Polite, professional and thorough . You really can't ask for more. Not hey did an extremely good job of cleaning up debris and not damaging surrounding areas.

Extreme Tree Service performed an exceptional job. They removed about 40 x 16 feet of overgrown Juniper that were about 28 years old and removed two small 21 foot trees on the side of the lot line. A very well groomed young crew of three arrived on time and was ready for work. Everyone introduced themselves and went over the work plan with me. The equipment to shred/chip was a large piece of equipment that took no time to eat up the branches of the Junipers and of the two trees. When it came to grind down the stumps, the crew laid down half-inch plywood to allow the stump grinder (it was like a small tank on tracks) to travel on so that none of the lawn got damaged. When finished with cutting and grinding, the crew cleaned up the work area, with a blower cleaned debris off the grass and blew the yard free of any wood chips. There were virtually no signs of the crew ever being here. As you can see from the satellite pictures, the Junipers were very abundant and the small trees on the lot line over 21 feet. They performed an exceptional job. I provided the crew with access to the garage refrigerator full of ice-cold water and I also provided lunch. That is just how good these guys were……….. Perfect gentlemen at all times. I am a retired Army Colonel and I have no problems throwing someone off my property for doing shoddy work or disrespect. I am giving this company the highest recommendations on Angie’s List and in the Roanoke Valley. Thank you.

Great! Four young men (including Joshua Smith, owner of the company) arrived shortly after 8 a.m.--three climbed and one did ground/tree clean up. They used ropes when climbing and working--no spikes, bucket truck. Small equipment used on lawn (no ruts in lawn) for picking up limbs to take to driveway where grinding machine was located. They were here until around 5:30 p.m. (dark when they pulled out) They never left the property all day--at least two or three were working when another was taking a break. They left five beautiful trees and a spotless lawn. It was a pleasure working with Joshua, a certified arborist, from the time of first meeting him until the work was completed. I highly recommend Joshua and his company.

It went great. The team was clean, professional, and punctual. They did great work, delivered an estimate in a timely manner, and delivered the bill in a timely manner. They did a terrific job cleaning up after themselves. They used all appropriate safety equipment and worked very safely. They also quickly handled delivery of a certificate of insurance before the work started. Will definitely use Josh and extreme tree company again.

I found Joshua Swift on Angie's List and was very impressed by the reviews. I contacted him and he came to look at the trees in a few days. He spent over an hour walking through the trees, taking notes and details. He then came in and went over the extensive notes that he took - often talking about individual trees. Since this was a big job, he said that he could send me a graduated estimate indicating which were priorities in the event that I wanted him to spread out the work and, thus, the payment. In addition, he noted that some of the trees were diseased/had insect infestation and indicated that he didn't work on those problems but he could ask another arborist to have a look.......within a day or two, Joshua sent me a very detailed estimate with the cost of every tree needing specific work. It was very impressive! I agreed on the plan he suggested and he put me on his schedule a couple of months away. Which turned out to be this week.
I wanted to be here to watch the work since they don't use a bucket truck but, rather, climbed the trees. Unfortunately, I was not able o be here to watch but they took pictures for me and even a video where Joshua walked through the yard and pointed out the work on the largest trees. That was so thoughtful and a lovely gesture.
Joshua did an outstanding job and the trees look fabulous and I am sure are much healthier going forward. The other arborist he recommended came a day or so after Joshua made his first visit and, in fact, completed the treatment of the diseased trees within the week as I was going out of town. He brought leaves to me to show me the insect infestation and assured me that they will be fine after a spring treatment.
