The installers called ahead to say they could come earlier than the scheduled appointment (OK with me). They breezed through the installation, explaining the system and how it operates. They worked steadily and completed the job quickly. Both were quite amiable and comfortable to interact with. The old tank was full of hardened salt and couldn't be moved out of the basement because of the weight. They left the tank so I could use the salt in my new brine tank and left one of the two salt bags they brought with them to the side for use later. This saved me some money and is ecologically sound. They told me twice to call them when I had used up the old salt and they will come take the tank away.
Unlike a previous reviewer, I definitely like to buy from the company that will maintain and service the equipment. That the company is local is a bonus. There are much cheaper water softeners from the chain stores, but I can't bring myself to trust the installation or the ongoing service. You get what you pay for, and I consider this purchase/installation to have been worth the price.
I wish I had checked Angie's List first because of the 5% discount coupon that I could have used.
The plumbing was very well done. Their salesman was very responsive to questions and the installers layed out the system with convenient access to all parts requiring maintenance and answered all my questions. Don't forget to ask for the Angies List discount. If you want to save money you can buy a softener online such as a Fleck(not as reliable Kinetico from what I read online) and install it yourself
I had other vendors come out and perform similar water tests and allowed them to give me their solutions, but Kinetico was clearly the leader in product knowledge and innovative solutions. The sales rep was very knowledgeable and offered me a quite low cost solution. Based on my personal preference and after several days of additional research, I upgraded myself to their two-tank system which requires no electricity at all to run. The house is used a lot in the summer and very little the rest of the year, so having a system which would handle the load while not wasting water, salt, or cleaning media was attractive to me.
The installation crew was even more knowledgeable than their sales rep. They moved my whole-house filter to where it was supposed to be according to code (after the pump) and provided me with a brand new prefilter and housing. They also installed their soft water system exactly in the location I preferred and even took the extra step of removing the anode rod from my hot water heater (which would help with removing the smell from our water).
It is now two months since the system has been installed and it has made a tremendous difference. The water is clean, clear, and odorless. We are now comfortable in replacing our dishwasher, washer, and toilets which are all stained from the iron deposits of 10 years of untreated well water.
The water tester and the installation team were on-time and were professional and courteous.
We have the worst water anybody has ever tested. Every water company that comes to our house says they've never seen it that bad ever. We had another company install a water softener when we moved in and had nothing but problems and attitude from them. I hated to turn around three years later and buy another system, but we just couldn't deal with it anymore.
Kinetico came in an installed a light commercial system in our house, along with a RO system. While it hasn't made everything perfect yet, if we do have a problem, they come out immediately, even on holidays, and they are so gracious and want to make
things perfect. We still have some white residue around the sinks and shower, but they say that it's cleaning out the pipes and it should go away.
Anyway, I'd much rather deal with a company that wants to make things right (still believes that the customer knows best) than a company that gives you nothing but attitude and incompetence with their office staff.

On Sunday (08/26/12) you called the salespersons cell phone and left a message to please call you to reschedule again. We called you on Monday (08/27/12) and left a message to please call.
