Plumbing Express

I was pleased with the plumbing work. The drywall patching/painting was clean and smooth, better than I expected, and the workers were neat and friendly and punctual. Plumbing Express even sent a separate tile man to redo some tiles that got chipped during removal. I had no water for a night, but they did the work the week I picked. The only downside was manager Kirk Ballenger’s communication problems – twice I had a no-show the morning-of (estimate appointment, and tile fix appointment) and when I finally reached him he said “Sorry, my office was supposed to reschedule.” Whoops. They didn’t. I went with Plumbing Express even though it was $500 more than Atlantic’s estimate (but Atlantic is not on Angie’s List) Only time will tell whether this plumbing holds up for decades, and the patching holds up without cracking, but I’m pleased with the work.

We had requested the advice of a Master Plumber to determine how best to solve the issue of the corroding copper pipe. He recommended Plumbing Express because that was their business line. They do this for hundreds of houses and apartments in the local area. The issue with corroding copper pipe has grown as each County changes its additives to their water purification process as well as contractors using cheap copper pipe. On May 13th the Plumbing Express estimator arrived on time and it took about 45 minutes to come up with the price for replacement standard copper, CPCV, and industrial copper piping. PEK another type of plastic pipe was not offered. We had expected the cost to be greater that the $4200 based on our research.
The Plumbing Express team of four people arrived right on time at 0830, 20 May, and laid down plastic sheeting on everything that could be effected by dust. Water was shut off about 9am and pipe removal and replacement began. About 11am a problem developed with turning off the main water line at the curb. Fairfax Water was called and they responded immediately. They remained on site until the main valve in the house had been replaced and then they turned the curb valve back on. Only the home owner can ask for this service. By 3pm all the pipes had been replaced and the water was back on by 4pm and all the debris had been removed and the carpeting vacuumed.
Tuesday the two person and quot;closing teamand quot; came in at 10am and again put down plastic sheeting and began patching the holes in the wall board and shower tiles while we waited for the County inspector who came around noon. The closing team was done around 6:30pm. You can tell there was a cut in the bathroom tile grout of you look closely but that is the only indication that maintenance has been performed. We did have a problem with one shower valve and the team leader came back and readjusted it that evening.
This was a very professional team that worked fast and efficiently. We were told that it normally took 5 days to get everything done. It took two.

One of the best service experiences we've ever had. All the inside water lines need to be replaced. The whole job from start to finish was completed in 4 days. Despite all the horror stories I'd heard about this process, when they were compelted 4 days later, one could never tell any work was done in the house. At the end of day #1. large holes were methodically taken out of walls and ceilings thoughout the house. We began to think maybe this whole job was a mistake to see our lovely house in this state of disrepair. Day #2, all the water lines were completely replaced. Day 3, the crew was replaced by 2 new members who had the responisbility of restoring the house to its original condition. At the end of day #4, there was not even dust anywhere in the house. All the furniture was replaced exactly where it started, and you couldn't even find where all the walls and ceilings were cut. There wasn't even the necessity for any additonal cleanup on our part. And despite the size and complexity of everything that was done, the price was so reasonable. I can't begin to tell you how pleased we were with the whole proceess.

They had to do a lot of sheet rock removal and repair throughout the project. They also did a great job taping every thing down to prevent the spread of dust and dirt. Express Plumbing did a good job from start to finish. And they did it in a timely manner as well.

In the end, the job was completed and everything works well and looks great. The wall repair and the repainting was excellent and is highly recommended. The main reason this company did not get A ratings for overall and quality is that the plumbers failed to reconnect two lines of plumbing (one was in the basement going to the outside hose connection and the other was in an upstairs bathroom where they forgot to repipe the line between the tub and the shower spigot). Due to this oversight, they caused two flooding issues in the house. Once repaired, the plumbing has no leaks and works well. A secondary issue was that the plumbers were sloppy in many aspects of their work such as leaving trash around, marring shower spigots, scraping walls unnecessarily, and leaving foam residue on door handles (which was impossible to get off). The manager, Mr. Dorton, got involved after hearing about these issues and did a wonderful job addressing them (e.g. replaced door knob, replaced marred spigots, replaced broken tiles, repaired minor wall/accessory damage). Despite the above issues, I would recommend the company to others but just watch the plumbers carefully and double check their work. The drywallers/painters were phenomenal and the management was responsive.
