I’ve worked with Sam and Janice Personal Pavers on two separate occasions over the last year. They knocked out the driveways at both our residence (February 2020) and a rental property November 2020). Our previous driveway at home was a terrible job, and needed to be ripped out and replaced, and we were certainly pleased with the results. Sam and Jan have always been professional, accommodating and easy to work with. The quality of the work is much better than what I’ve had in the past from other local paving contractors, and Sam helped us solve some significant water issues at the rental. I’d hire them again without hesitation.

Awful! 6/12/20 - Paid $250 to 'Sam & Janice Your Personal Pavers', to apply sealcoat to my driveway. Noticed a few issues the next week and contacted them to correct the problem. ==> Too much filler was applied to cracks, never dried before sealcoat applied, filler oozed out, leaving streaks down the driveway like soft tar. Tire tracks were visible in the soft sealcoat that never solidified. 6/23 - Worker agreed to come back on 6/27 to fix driveway. He never showed, never called to let me know he was not coming by. 6/29-7/3 Left several voicemails, and texted worker several times regarding not showing up to fix my driveway. Informed via texts that several more driveway issues had occurred. Numerous attempts made to reach him, he never returned my calls => Over the next few days and weeks, streaks became worse, driveway became a total disaster and looked awful. 7/3 - Finally reached a company Owner, she informed me that worker had hurt his back, so did not show up to do the repair work, and she had forgot to inform me. She assured me worker would be out next week to fix problem. *He never showed up the next week, never called about fixing the driveway* 7/10-7/18 - attempted to reach worker numerous times via phone and texts, he refused to return my calls or texts. 7/18 - Finally heard from Owner, said that worker could repair my driveway next day (7/19)- Given the awful job they did the 1st time, did not want to risk them attempting to fix driveway. Informed them that they could not be trusted to do it right. Not returning phone calls for weeks was horrible customer service. *Told them I was not satisfied and wanted my $250 refunded. 7/20 - Owner called and said she would send $250 refund check to me on Tuesday (7/21). 7/24-7/28, No check received, made several attempts to reach company, left voicemails or texted 7/28 - Reached owner on phone, asked about check? 7/29 - Owner to send check out today 8/4 - Still NO check. Left VM & sent text asking $250 cash ASAP. My Desired Outcome: - Bring $250 cash refund to my house, since I was twice lied to about a "check being in the mail" to me. - or send a certified $250 refund check to my address. *** This is the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life. Not returning phone calls or texts for 2-3 weeks is unprofessional and unacceptable. Calling and promising to send out a $250 refund check on two different occasions turned out to be a lie. I would give them the worst possible rating as a company. Not sure why they have a business license or why they are allowed to operate in Virginia. I hope no one else ever has to deal with these grifters. They ruined my driveway and it will now cost me a minimum of $3,700 to have an asphalt overlay applied to correct the shoddy, awful work they did. UPDATED AS OF 08/24/2020: 8/5/20 - Complaint ID 14639830 was assigned to my case by BBB. I filed a BBB (Better Business Bureau) complaint against ”Sam & Janice Your Personal Pavers”, for failure to refund $250 to me, for the sub-standard work done on driveway on 6/12/20. On two occasions, 7/20, and 7/29, the owner promised to send me a $250 refund check. This was just more lies; the check was NEVER received. 8/7/20 - Owner lied to BBB and falsely claimed a $250 refund check had been sent to me. I NEVER received it. This was the 3rd lie regarding sending the refund check to me. BBB provided this link so I could research other complaints against “Sam & Janice Your Personal Pavers”. I clicked on the link and went to the DPOR (Department of Professional and Occupational Reguation site. I found that there were several complaints against the company and that their license had been revoked. Below is the link to look at the license information for the business. Once you click the link just type in the name of the business and it will show you complaints they have had as well as the fact that their license was revoked. http://www.dpor.virginia.gov/LicenseLookup/ ; I have tried for over 2 months now to gat my $250 refund, to no avail. I have been repeatedly lied to, and experienced the worst possible customer service. My driveway is a total disaster as a result of the work they did. It can NOT be resealed in the current condition, and as a result, it will cost me $3,700 to have an overlay of new asphalt applied to it. Avoid this company at all costs. They have NO valid license to operate or do driveway work, and are just a bunch of grifters. I do NOT recommend them at all.

HORRABLE!!! Let’s just say ..I totally agree with EVERYONE who gave them D and F. They also lollipops 6 of my mature evergreens and told me they would grow back In no time NOT!!! I had to replace everyone of them!!! They were HORRABLE a returning calls as well!!! JANICE always make appointments for her husband ..which he NEVER showed up for., at least 6 times in a row! Our experience was a NIGHTMARE!!!

It didn't turn out well. It looked fantastic when they left. But, since then, it has all settled and there are all kinds of pot holes. Every time I park my car in it, it leaves divots in the driveway. The asphalt is just terrible. I complained about it within a week of him being there. He said to give it some time and call him back and that he'll fix it. But there is no way he is going to be able to fix it without repaving the whole driveway. He did a very poor job preparing the base to lay the asphalt on. He was the highest bid. I thought I would get the best one, which was a mistake. So, it was very expensive. Initially, the responsiveness was an 'A'

Never showed up!

Was pretty responsive.  Arrived when they said they would.  Completed in time.  Looked great when they finished.  Advised that sections that were cracking were due to prior contractor not putting enough stone down.  Cracking came back after year.  To be fair I have to make two notes: #1 - I have not contacted them to allow them to correct the situation, #2 - Verizon contractor brought heavy vehicles on to the drive one day.  Verizon contractor repaired sections.  Asphalt depth was questionable but did not put a ruler in all areas.  Great price but believe this was a "get what you pay for" for situation.  Am having them quote for a re-seal.  Will be interesting to see what they say.  Will post an update.  Am saying yes to using again but will depend on their response.

Made an appointment for an estimate of paving my driveway. Janice told me that Sam would show up on Monday 5:30 for an estimate. Called Janice at 7:00, since Sam never showed up. Had to call me back, and came up with an excuse that the car broke down. Made a new appointment for the following day the same time. Needless to say, nobody showed up and no phone call to tell me that something happened.
Based on the other reviews here, I will not be dealing with them. If this is the way they treat their potential customers, I will not like to know how the treat you after you paid.

Large gravel (since 84) driveway wanted paved. Sam Stanley was the mid priced bid. Promised 3 1/2" to 4" of asphalt after compressing. I got 1 1/2" to 2 ". Most of driveway alligatored, mushrooms popped thru the 1st Fall. Water puddles and freezes at my basement door in winter. I have grass and weeds that grow rampant in my drive. No contract written. Told him I would pay him as soon as he did what he told me he was going to do. Never heard from him again. At that time, the business was Sam Stanley Paving so I know the name has been changed at least once. BBB has them now graded "F". AND just now when I go to refinance to a lower rate, I find he has filed a mechanics lien on my property.

These guys are the best!  On time, gave me a fair price compared to two others, and did the job to perfection. Gave me a written estimate and called twice to confirm the construction date.  Had everything to do it right.  My neighbor liked them so much... he had work done the next day!

I left a message on Wednesday that I wanted a bid. I received a call back on Friday setting a time of 1-2 p.m. on Sunday. However, they did not show up at the appointment time. Rather, at 4 p.m. on Sunday they called and asked if I wanted a bid, making no apology for having missed the appointment time. I told them that they had missed their opportunity to bid.

I used them because my neighbors had used them. My driveway is long including the parking pad. I had tree leeland pines that our as tall as my house that line the driveway. He asked me if he could trim the trees 6-8 inches. I went in to take a shower and he had cut up the trees by 6 ft. Later, the driveway started crumbling. I have made several attempts to contact this company. I have talked to his wife who acts embarrassed. I have made 8 appointments with him to come back and correct his work, and he has stood me up every single time.

Paving is an expensive project and it is not easy to get referrals and it seems there are as many bad as good. I asked many friends and got 4 estimates. I don't always go for the lowest but this time I did. They ranged from $4600 to $10,500. Sam and Janice did a great job, at least from appearance as this is only the second day after completion. The generator pad, an afterthought, was included at no extra cost. So far I am extremely happy with the work they've done. I would recommend them highly.

Sam and Janice didn't end up doing quite what I wanted. I thought it would be done differently, and that the sides would be even, which they weren't. They used stones around the edge. I haven't called them yet to fix it.

Sam & Janice Your Personal Pavers showed up with all the equipment they needed to finish the job. They laid out the perimeters for the digging and pouring process. They put up the proper signs for safety and caution. They showed great skill in their work.

Well they did an excellent job on the paving, I would have given them on A's but they fall short on customer service and follow through. Two months have gone by and they have not come by to see; it, this protects it from cracking in the heat. Two appointments were made but the company was a no show. After making six more unreturned phone calls I have given up on them. If they were to busy a phone call would have been in order. I know you make around $1,000 to pave a driveway and only $150 to seal it so I guess they have bigger and better jobs.
