1) We hired them to help with a drainage issue they had. Their solution was no where close to what was needed to solve the problem. I had to hire someone else to correct the problem. 2) I had their lawn service for 3 years and cancelled because when we started my lawn was all new sod and after 3 years it had weeds and wire grass. I found another place with better service and lower prices.

They mowed the lawn routinely. No problem there. The lawn maintenance was a joke. I laugh every time I see the commercial with the magnifying glass and the small weed. They charge for "bed maintenance" but lord knows what this actually includes. There is absolutely no evidence of maintenance. And then there was the sprinkler system . . . do not have them install the system. I inherited it when I purchased this house a year ago. I have a leak. They sent a guy out who couldn't/wouldn't find it. Vernon was schedule to come with him twice but didn't show. Vernon knows where the lines are. Vernon agreed there was a leak. But, I just cancelled my service. There is no point. They system was so poorly arranged. No sprinklers in the front beds! Seriously? I doubt the homeowner at the time agreed to that! And let's talk about soil testing. Keep in mind, I am home when these guys show up. They test one spot a foot from the road on the front lawn only. Hello! It was the back yard that needed help. They have no intention of fixing anything. Just testing. If it can't be done from a spray can or standing behind a mower, it isn't going to be done. They also did the landscaping. They truly have no idea of what it is going to look like a year down the road. So much is going to need to be removed or severely cut back every year. They love to mulch over mulch. What do you get? Ankle deep moldy mulch. I declined THAT to be repeated. I do not recommend them - at all.

Our lawn developed turf fungus, they frequently forgot the key to access our back yard, sprayed chemicals on our lawn AND sprayed the dogs' toys throughout the yard. The irrigation system was not installed correctly but they did finally make the corrections. Very little pride in their work. I could go on but We've moved on!

We've been using RJ Davis now for about a year and a half and have had no issues with them whatsoever.  We initially met with Vernon and went over a list of services they provided, were able to pick and choose which items we wanted and which we did not, and setup a monthly payment to cover the annual contract.  I had received quotes from two other lawn companies and ultimately went with RJ Davis because of seeing their results at other homes in the neighborhood and the ability to select specific options.  Other companies we talked with would not provide fertilizer/weed control/seeding without also contracting for mowing/trimming.  Our yard looks fantastic and I've recommended RJ Davis to two other neighbors on the street who wanted a company to help get their yards in shape.  The front office staff have always been courteous and respond promptly to any questions I've had (e.g. add on service to cut grass while on vacation, weed and mulch the flower beds).

For the work that was completed for us, which included clearing & prepping a small area for mulching and they did a satisfactory job at a reasonable cost. Scope of work was limited to provide a detailed review, however, from my limited experience I gave them an "A" I plan on using this company in the future should the need arise?

Estimated provided by RJ Davis on 7/29/13. Services were contracted on 4/10/14, after two calls to the current office manager to confirm that several of the proposed services would not be performed on the back yard including fertilizer and spreading topsoil/compost. I had clarified with the current office manager Cindy Rodgers on 4/8 that I would not be billed for those services. I had explained to RJ Davis that there was no reason to do that work on the backyard due to a drainage issue and the fact that we had two dogs who were in the backyard frequently. I also wanted to clarify if I signed the contract that the drainage work should not be included as we were not prepared to take on the expense of that project at this time. (Thankfully they honored their commitment and did not perform that work, nor was I billed for it)
Shortly after services were contracted my husband and I seperated and I started receiving statements sporadically. There were no contacts from RJ Davis until the month of August/September. During this time I noticed on the statements that I was being charged for weeding of our plant beds. This was confusing to me as I had been having to pull weeds on a consistent basis. In August I finally took a picture and called RJ Davis to issue a complaint and request that the charges for weeding be returned. I was told by the new office manager that the owner would call me back. I did not receive a call back. I called again and spoke with Jordan Woods. I was told at that time that the charge was not for weeding the plant beds but for spraying.
After receiving another call stating I owed a 1800.00 balance I began to question how the bill was so high. I told Jordan that topsoil/compost and fertilizer should have only been done on the front yard. We went back and forth a few times and ultimately she told me I would need to pay it as I had no proof otherwise regarding the discussion. On Oct 15, I spoke with Jordan again and explained the situation and that I was currently going through a divorce and had questions regarding the total balance. At that point she advised I had 562.00 so far delinquent that they were going to issue a warrant in debt. She also said that if I was in the middle of a divorce and was attempting to sell my house the warrant in debt would prevent me from doing so. I got off the phone with her and called back later to discuss my concern, she thanked me for calling back and said that as long as I make monthly payments they would not warrant the issue in debt. I committed to at least 200.00 a month until the balance was paid off.
A few days later I started analyzing the statement and contract and sent an email on 10/17 addressing some additional concerns with the services provided. I received no response from Jordan or RJ Davis and on 10/23 sent a follow up email. Jordan's response was not thorough and did not address the concerns that I had. I sent another follow up requesting more information and copy of the back of the contract on 10/23. In the email sent on 10/23 I also included pictures taken of my plant beds showing why I was concerned that it wasn't weeded as RJ Davis had said they were doing. Instead of honoring her original agreement with me, Jordan then responded that I could contact Curtis Meade with Collections of VA. In my email I requested the owner contact me and that my questions be answered.
I am incredibly disappointed in the service provided and the lack of being able to answer my questions when I have a legitimate concern. I have an excellent credit score but will not be threatened with warrants in debt especially while navigating a difficult divorce. I have explained to RJ Davis many times i have no problem paying the balance owed if I can get an understanding of their miscommunications and clarifications for being charged for services not provided. I even asked for them to fix my plant beds as when they and quot;seededand quot; they had seed go into the plant bed and now grass is growing in them. I was told they would not be doing that until the full balance was owed.
In addition I had requested the services be cancelled and was told and quot; This is your last visit - and your services would stop thenand quot;. Afterwards in a phone call to Jordan she told me that no she did not have me down for cancellation but that I would need to email her through the RJ Davis website. This is strange to me as I made two telephone requests to cancel service. It's also interesting to me when I called to cancel the services, and was told and quot;this is your last serviceand quot;, is right before they charged me an additional $975.00 for services that I did not request for the back yard. I see this as very shady business practices and taking advantage of someone already in a vulnerable situation. When you have explained to a company that you travel often for your job and are going through a divorce with two small children, the response should never be a threat with a warrant in debt, and the non responsiveness other than to say you are getting sent to collections. By my calculation I have paid RJ DAvis $1265.00 which was legitimately owed. The $300 they charged me for weeding the plant beds are not included in that nor is the extra $60.00 charge for chemicals that was not authorized in the contract. I would owe for topsoil/fertilizer/and seeding for the front yard only but RJ Davis refuses to provide an accurate figure for that amount.
I would like to provide a copy of the email communications between me and RJ Davis, as well as the photos provided to them this month highlighting my concern with the and quot;plant bed maintenanceand quot; charge of 300.00. Please let me know where I can send those to.
I regret going through such an insensitive company, who is seriously lacking in communication, organization, and integrity. This is unfortunate as I had used Angies List to select this provider and had several quotes done. RJ Davis was definitely not the cheapest but I felt they would do the best job. I was very wrong.
Response from R.J. Davis Lawncare Inc
"We reached out to [member name removed] in reference to the outstanding invoices we had for her. When she was reached, she stated she recently separated from her husband & was in the process of divorce & that it had put a financial strain on her. She questioned the contract of work she approved by signing & agreeing to all services listed. Nowhere on the contract did it state front or back only. The price listed that she agreed to was for her lawn. Not until we started calling to collect funds did she start saying we were not providing the services up to her standards. We tried to work out a payment plan with her and that was not upheld on her end."

This did not go well, our beds were not weeded (overgrown actually) and the grass was cut, though rarely edged to our satisfaction and often cut too short to allow for burning out of the yard. The staff was friendly, but this didn't really make up for a lack of service and clear miscommunication within their ranks (sales and actual field technicians).

I hired this company to maintain my newly installed Sod as i couldn't do it myself due to working out of the country..had a few hiccups but nothing big enough to question dumping the company..All of the hiccups occurred with the office staff (lack of communication and information not getting passed along)..i.e requested grounds crew show up @ my home on non watering days (never happened), when i signed the contract we called in a change on the mulch color from red to black (never happened).. Company placed a fairly large advertising sign on the property ( not a problem with that, problem of where they placed it, directly in my newly planted sod instead of the mulch bed and not giving a head up on the sign @ all)...besides those office issues the actual grounds crew was good
Renewed the contract for a second yr, made some changes and was recently informed that their were cancelling my contract due to them not having enough business in my area (bare in mind I live in a 2-250 home development).. I understand that business is business but i would have appreciated a phone call, especially when I just spoke to their office manager on the phone a week prior to receiving the letter

would have continued to use the company and i appreciated them taking me on as the only customer they had in caroline county, wished more residents would have signed up for their services

Largely good, until they weren't. Repeatedly used their upright riding mowers and tore up the grass when weather was wet. Damage to fencing.

Great company to work with! The customer service is top notch, the owner is trustworthy, and the staff is friendly and helpful! The guys from RJ Davis who helped us with our lawn this summer (while we were without our lawnmower) were great and reliable. They were focused and moved quickly mowing, edging, and blowing trimmings from our lawn, but always did a great job and they were always friendly and professional. We also had estimates done for additional work (installing drains, mulching, and a few other minor tasks) and plan to use them when we are ready to have the work done. A++ company!

It was fine, it really worked that well. I'd have a call again to do something else for us. It was good, it was on time, the price was good and it was done pretty quick and everything seemed well, everything went well.

I would recommend them, they returned my call, they responded quickly and they performed the service within the time frame. He did not experienced any issues.

We've used Jay Davis' service for a number of years now. Overall they do good work. Jay usually will do the estimates himself. His crew is professional, generally neat and tidy. Sometime automated billing to our Amex gets a bit off but a phone call resolves it.
