There were no issues with the oil change. They called me later that day to indicate that the car failed inspection due to a burned out headlight and rear side marker. The cost for the replacement of the light bulbs would be $60 which was $20 for the bulbs and $40 for the labor. $40 labor for installation seemed excessive so I had them reject the car and I decided to replace the bulbs myself. I was also informed that I needed a new battery which would be an additional $200 for the battery and labor. I elected not to have them perform this work as well, since I never asked them to check my battery. When I got home I verified which bulbs were burned out and noticed that the license plate bulb, which was not noted on the inspection report, was also burned out. I went to the local auto parts store and bought the bulbs. While I was there I inquired about the battery and they indicated that the price that Mac's would charge me for the battery was fair but they could check the battery for free and if I needed one that they would install it for free. I installed the bulbs that evening and called back the next day to see if I could drop in and have the inspection redone while I waited. I was told that I would have to wait in line with all the other customers and it might not be done until the end of the day. Therefore, I waited another week and my wife and I drove out to drop off the car. At this time they told us that they would inspect the car while we waited. If we had been told that when we called the previous week it would have saved us having to drive two cars to the shop and saved us some of our valuable time.

Work was performed on schedule and the price was as estimated.  The team at Mac's does top quality work and my SUV shifts as smoothly as the day it departed the dealership.  The complementary wash and detail was extremely well done (they didn't just run it through a local automatic washer as they do at the Lexus dealership) and was a welcome bonus after the winter weather!

Dropped truck at shop after hours w/o advance notice. Handled job w/o fuss next day. Gave me a break on alternator b/c I quoted lower parts price at local auto parts store.

We took my daughters  car in for one thing, then they came back with a list of other things that should be checked or done.  Several of the items they listed had already been done.  I just felt like they were out to get all they could.  I told them to fix what we had brought it in for which they did, that work was fine.  took it back a second time to get some cost and diagnoses of a problem, their cost was way high.  I paid for the diagnoses.  Took it the car to another shop where the diagnoses was totally different, they fixed it for about what I paid for Macs diagnoses and it has been fine.  Maybe it was just my experience but I won't be going back.

Dropped the car off on a Saturday morning, and even though I had my doubts it would be finished within the timeframe promised because of the number of cars in the parking lot waiting for service, it was ready within 3 hours -- an hour earlier than scheduled! We were told that the car's acceleration would be improved because the replacement battery was better than the original one, and they were spot on. Highly recommend them if you have a hybrid with an aging battery that is giving you problems. In our case, the battery light, as well as the check engine light, were lit continuously due to the battery's condition. Replacing the battery fixed all the "engine code" issues, and we fully expect the car to last at least another 130K miles. Thanks to Mac's, we had an almost-new car at a fraction of what buying another one would have cost. A year after battery replacement, it still drives better than it did when it was new, and the "engine stop" function at red lights has been restored. The tires were cupped, but too new to replace, and the Go Green nitrogen fill extended their life by at least a year. They threw in the headlight lens polishing for free, and they cleaned the vehicle after it was serviced. Appointment was made on-line, but they followed-up with a phone call to explain the technical details, and to make sure we understood everything that would be done. Last year, they were running a holiday food drive, and you could get 10% off your bill, if you brought in a bagful of groceries. We didn't know that until we came back to pay, so check before you go and they may be offering a similar discount. Everyone on-site is extremely courteous and professional, and they are living out their faith in their business culture. Amazing customer service. If we lived closer, Mac's Service Center would be our choice for all our automotive needs.

Great all around experience.  Staff called to confirm appointment, work was completed quickly, and they even cleaned up the truck including the wheels. I wasn't sure about using an independent shop over the dealer, but  I am completely satisfied with the service and will use Mac's in the future.

Mac and his staff were very professional. They explained all the work that was required and what it would cost. They identified what would need to be done later but not necessary on the day of our appointment. We had brought the car to them from another garage which had identified needed repairs. Macs reviewed and actually found that we did not need certain repairs but needed more critical repairs like the timing belt which had never been replaced since we bought the car new. Macs completed those repairs at a lower price than what was quoted at the other garage and their repairs fixed a more critical part. Macs also provided a loaner vehicle to my daughter while the car was being repaired at no cost. Our family is glad we have found an auto service center we can trust that provides excellent customer service is! I recommend Macs Auto Service Centers to anyone who wants a fair deal from someone they can trust with their vehicle repairs!

When I pulled my 05 Prius into the garage and the engine would not shut off and I could not put the car into any gear, I thought either the world had gone crazy or I had.  When the AAA tow truck driver could accomplish those goals, I was sure it was me.  I immediately drove the car to Mac's Service Station, fearing that with the car working again he would be unable to discover what was wrong, and I would continue to have the problem at unpredictable times.  Mac ran a diagnostic and discovered a problem with the car's computer.  He also discovered that the problem was common enough that Toyota covered it under an unadvertised extended warranty.  He had the car driven from Ashland to McGeorge Toyota in Richmond, conducted all the dealings with the service department there, gave me periodic status reports during the ten days it took them to obtain the part and make the repair, and then picked up the car and drove it back to Ashland.  When I went to get the car, he refused to charge me even for the diagnostic, let alone the time and mileage his crew put in to accomplish the repair.  We started using Mac's because he took over the station from a previous owner we had patronized, and we've always been happy with his work.  This latest experience convinced us that Mac is a very special guy!

I use the location in Troy but don't see a separate Angie's List listing for that location. Anyway, a coworker referred me to Mac's last year and I went and had some repair work done. Quite pleased with the service. Went back this week for maintenance and when they were reviewing my history, they realized I'd been accidentally overcharged for something back in September and credited me that amount! When's the last time you got that kind of customer service? Was already happy with their service but I think this speaks to their attitude towards their customers and just reinforces my confidence in this business.

Shortly before Thanksgiving (2013), our SUV made a "clunk" sound, and immediately stopped working. Yikes!  It's our main family car, and I love "Big Red" (Our kids named him.  Yes, him!).  We were going to visit family on Thanksgiving, and without our car, we were going to have to do some major reworking.
We had Big Red towed to Mac's in Troy, and crossed our fingers that it wouldn't be too bad.  No such luck, the engine was shot.  The clunk we heard had been a retaining ring that was holding one of the pistons breaking, and when it went, the piston became lodged in the cylinder and that's was all she wrote.  Not something we could have foreseen or done anything to prevent, but that's small comfort when you're left without a car!
Now, we had to think about what was best, given the circumstances.  A new car was out due to budgetary concerns, not to mention the fact it was right before Christmas.  Patrick (service manager and a great guy to work with) let my husband know that a brand new engine was also going to be too expensive, given that we were talking about a 2006 Cadillac SRX that had 100K+ miles on it.  Oh no! Was it the end of Big Red?
Absolutely not!  Patrick was able to get a used motor that had 67K miles on it (35K less miles than the dead one, woohoo!), if we were interested.  Heck, yeah, we were interested! Not only did Mac's get Big Red back in shape (thanks, Mark!), but did
it in time for our Thanksgiving trip, and all for a cost that was more than HALF what a comparable used car would have been.  Not only that, Big Red was washed and shiny when they brought him out to us.
All that, and Mac himself even took a video of poor Big Red up on the lift that our kids thought was super cool. Fantastic! (search their site, Vehicle Status, Repair Order 13995 if you care to see it for yourself!)
I was happy with Mac's before, but after this experience, we are Mac's customers for life!

They’re very professional and honest.  You rarely have to wait more than several minutes for them to assist you. They performed all service in a very timely manner and complete the work in the time frame they indicated they would.  They have wonderful specials for their service.  I like the email coupons.  It’s a club you can sign up for.

Excellent service from the moment I first contacted them until I picked up my truck.  Their mechanics actually LISTENED to me even though I am not one.  They called two times asking followup questions that helped them pin point the problem more quickly than they might have otherwise.  They even posted photographs in private on their website for me to review of suspect parts which allowed me to make decisions on what actions to take without driving 45 minutes to their shop.  Fantastic.  They even WASHED it.
