"Thank you Mr. [Member Name Removed]!"
Job done a month behind schedule at $40.000 . In the attic there were gaps in the duct work I could put my finger through ? they came back to fix them - I can only hope there aren't more that I'm unable to find . Initially the system cut off on a regular basis . Woke up very very cold a few mornings ! I figured out how to purge the system - that helped . Upon telling them , they decided to tell me that the system will need purging when its new (wish I knew that before ). A personal item of my sons (a compound bow) was damaged (dry fired) by one of their workers during the install . Nobody would admit doing it , but they offered to repair it . Six months later they returned the item to me and it was obviously non-functional ? they said I should take it back to the place where they had the repairs done ? no thanks , if it took 6 months to NOT fix it , why would I go back ? I'll cover that repair on my own now .
Our 6 month check up and the cooling system isn't cooling the house evenly . The downstairs won't cut off - even when the temp is below the thermostat setting . The check up turns into a repair ? no a/c for 3 days ?and the temperature is 100 outside ! The repair man said it would be here in 2 days and that he'd install it even if he had to be here at midnight (that's real nice of him). We had to call to inquire on that second day - "Will we have a/c today?"? you think maybe they'd call us , out of concern , at least to show an effort . "The parts still not here but I'll be there first thing in the morning ." ?well that sounds like the part IS there and you just don't want to work a long day . The next morning we call and they tell us the part came in yesterday ! ? half an hour later they call back "Sorry for the confusion , that wasn't YOUR part that came in before , but oh , it's here now" . 3 days without a/c and this system costs $40,000 ! I asked why didn't they overnight the part ? ? "It was a warranty thing" . The part goes in an the system works now , but it's still constantly blasting cold air downstairs . I don't want to call them . I'll be contacting the system manufacturer to see who else maintains this unit . I've only ever talked to the sales guy and the workers . I'd love to have a word with the owner , but I don't think I could maintain my cool . After spending $40,000 for this kind of treatment I'm baffled that these guys are still in business . I wish I could write a better review , they really do seem like nice folks .
UPDATE: Over a year after the install and the owner calls me out of the blue after reading my review here . He says all the right things and gives me a one year premium maintenance package . The Geothermal system is running great now and I'm looking forward to a lifetime of low cost efficient heating and a/c . I'm bumping my review up to a "C"
I complained to the company and was told that the close fitting ductwork had not been written into the contract. I argued that many things that had been said had not been in the contract and I drew up and provided Green Air management with a scale drawing of exactly how the duct work should have been made to correctly align with the AHU. I told them that if they re-imbursed me for the new ductwork and installed it, i would get a local duct fabricator fabricate my designed ductwork. After some arguement, Green Air agreed to my proposal, and the new duct work was made. Although it took about four weeks before someone came back to install the new ductwork, the installation went fine and the problem was solved.
Additional Problems. During initial AHU installation, Green Air said they would be unable to run wires to the livingroom where my original thermostat had been located, and asked if they could run the thermostat wires up through the ductwork and install their new thermostat in the upstairs hallway. I indicated that the original thermostat location was the best location in the house because it was in the middle level of my split level home, and that middle level was the most heavily used part of the house and would sit at the average temperature layer between the downstairs and the upstairs. They countered that it would be too much work to put the thermostat in its original location and that they were afraid they would damage the woodwork on my walls, so they would have to put it in the upstairs hallway. I told them not to do that, and instead, I personally spent three hours running the wires through the walls, so that the thermostat could sit in its original location. I was more dissappointed in their expedient choice of where to install their thermostat, than in the fact that Ihad to run the wires myself.
After everything was installed it all worked fine through the summer, fall and early winter. Then on the first extremely cold night of the winter the fan in the AHU woke us all up in the middle of the night sounding like a large airplane (propeller engine). A service technician came out to investigate, and said that the AHU was set to run at a much higher fan speen in auxiliary heat mode, and that if he lowered the upper fan speed setting he would have to lower the lower fan speed setting. He did this, but the upper fan speed was still very high, and loud, and the lower fan speed was so low that it did not carry heat efficiently, causing the AHU to kick into auxiliary heat mode much more frequently. On his second visit the technician also determined that two of the three auxiliary electric heat elements in the AHU were not functioning because the AHU had been wired incorrectly. The technician fixed this problem and said that he may need to come out again to cut some additional intake holes in the intake air ducts becaus the fan vibration was due to it starving for air at the higher fan speed. He said he would be back in three days, but for ten days afterwards, he kept missing and rescheduling appointments. In the mean time I called York Air and spoke with their technician about the AHU fan speed problem, and was told that because my heat pump was a single stage compressor, the AHU should not be operating on two substantially different fan speeds. He recommended that I check the wiring of the AHU main control board to see if it had been wired correctly. I subsequently checked the AHU control board and discovered that it had been wired to run for a two stage heat pump. After I corrected the wiring, everything has worked correctly and I have had no more fan speed or heating problems.
One apparent problem with Green Air is that there seemed to be a lot of mis-communication; the right hand generally did not know exactly what the left hand was doing. For example, whoever designed the original ductwork obviously did not communicate in any detail with the person who set up the installation contract, or have much experience with ductwork design. Although there are some competent and dedicated staff at Green Air, poor communication and oversight led to mistakes: e.g., wrong parts were installed; a person sent out to repair the faulty ductwork was unaware of the planned modifications and arrived unprepared. One of the persons sent out to investigate fan speed problems on the AHU had not communicated with the first person who had worked on the same problem earlier in the week. so the service had to be rescheduled. I will say that Green Air personnel were always polite and tried to solve most of the problems encountered, but scheduling sometimes fell, through the cracks, and based on incorrect wiring and other work, some of their personnel could use morel technical experience and training.
