Commonwealth Energy Systems
About us
Commonwealth Energy Systems opened for business on April 6, 1999, but we were not the new kids on the block. The owner, Stephen Smith, and eight key employees had all worked for the largest window and siding company in Central Virginia and had a combined experience of over 170 years in the home improvement field. We all had learned that just selling a quality product was not enough. Even the best product is not satisfactory if it is not installed properly. We pride ourselves on the very best window and siding installers who only work for us. It is much more cost effective to do the job right the first time. Much of our business is obtained by referrals from our satisfied customers. We do have a service department, because some things are unavoidable such as glass breakage. When service is required, we do it in a timely fashion. We are proudly celebrating our 15 year anniversary.

"[Member Name Removed], thank you for taking the time to write a review for our company and our services. It has been a pleasure working with you and we hope we can be of service in the future."
Excellent service and pricing. Commonwealth uses formed PVC for the rounded brick mold, not wood. The windows turned out not to be a perfect half round--height was short by 1 inch. They were able to accommodate including replacing the interior trim with formed PVC, which was not in the original quote, at no extra charge. This required them to come back a second day, but the windows were installed and sealed on the outside before the rains came. Workers cleaned up, used cloths under the ladder indoors and removed their boots as well.
Steve and his crew are pleasant to work with. I will go back to them for more work, maybe gutter protectors, in the future. I recommend them highly.

"Thanks for sharing your complete experience with us and our work to other Angie's List members. All of our Family here enjoyed working for you and we are thrilled that your home looks amazing with the new siding. Congratulations on your decision in contracting with us to help you receive exactly what you wanted. Truly, Steve Smith"
The initial contact was made on May 3rd and the estimate performed by the company representative was friendly and informative. A small downpayment was made at that time and we were told the windows would be ordered and could be expected to be delivered for installation within a couple of weeks. The company owner came by 3 days later to take final measurements for the windows and answer any questions we had.
After two weeks we were called yesterday, and were told installers would be arriving between 9 and 9:30 am the next morning to install the windows. Today (May 22nd) the two professional and friendly installers arrived on time and got right to work, answering any questions I had. They finished up installing the new windows in an efficient, timely manner without any problems or untimely delays. I was shown how the new windows functioned, a set of blinds was reinstalled after it had to be taken down during the installation, and final payment was made. The installer informed me that the operating manual and warranty information was being mailed to me.
The company owner stopped by during the installation just to make sure everything was proceeding to his and my satisfaction.
Overall I am VERY pleased with the service and professionalism provided by Commonwealth Energy Systems and would recommend their services to others.

The only downside is that the screen door that they installed is already falling apart. The screen is almost completely detached on one side of the door, and coming off on a couple other sides. I will be calling them about this, as I don't believe that the quality should be so low as to have this happen already. This started about two weeks after installation.
The quality of the windows is an "A", but the screen door is a "C", hence the overall rating of a "B" in quality.
The install crew left a couple cigarette butts on our lawn, but overall, a good job installing the windows. The sales staff and office manager were excellent, always promptly returning my calls and very knowledgeable.
